On the bus, Luis researched about Ramzis and discovered an unknown sad story. In the blog he stumbled upon, it said that Ramzis was a dog in the German army. After his owner was killed in conflict, he never left his side. Brazilian soldiers found him next to the corpse and were moved by the situation, so they rescued him. He was given a chance to start over. This caused controversy in the media at the time, but everyone was surprised when the dog became popular after saving many people buried in the largest landslide in the history of destin.
But he left us on March 13, 1980, after saving Golden Retriever puppies trapped in a burning farm. Ramzis couldn't escape. And so, touched by this, a statue was erected, leaving a beautiful reflection that no matter where we come from, or what we are, we are all the same.
Emotional and almost crying, Luis looked at photos of Ramzis alongside soldiers.
Luis was unsure and in the process, the bus passed his stop. Realizing this, he quickly packed his belongings and signaled to stop.
Getting off at the stop, he walked home, strolling through deserted streets with hardly any cars circulating, it was like being in the middle of the Egyptian desert or a forest at night.
As he walked, he thought about all the good moments he experienced today. Until he reached a corner that faced a supposed pet cemetery. It was a little before reaching his street. He walked without a care in the world, lost in his happy thoughts.
Suddenly, he heard heart-wrenching howls coming from inside that old pet cemetery.
Terrified, he thought that the sound might be from a stray dog that entered, and perhaps the guards and employees didn't hear it. So, he opened the creaky iron gate and turned on the flashlight on his phone.
"Hello? Is anyone here?" Luis shouted. But no one responded.
Ramzis got scared hearing the noise and hid.
Luis walked through the cemetery a bit scared, searching for the dog, believing it may have fallen into an empty grave. He looked at every hole.
From afar, a light caught his attention. Luis found a very different grave. There was a wooden cross buried in the ground, marking it. With a rusted iron helmet and an old collar hanging from the cross. Luis found it when his flashlight's beam hit the metal collar and it shone.
Curious, he approached and knelt down, starting to clean the grave. When he realized whose grave it was, he was impressed.
"Ramzis... so this is where you rest," he exclaimed, overcome with emotion. "My name is Luis. I learned about your story today through friends," Luis said, as if talking to an old friend. "I know the death of your best friend must have been painful, but you managed to get up and move on. I wish I could be as strong as you."
Ramzis watched everything from behind a small chapel and was moved by Luis' words. He lowered his ears and had sad eyes, stirred by the memories those words triggered in his mind.
"I also lost someone very special to me. My best friend, my grandmother," Luis continued, lamenting the loss. "She would always tell me beautiful or even strange stories, knew the best games, and we would watch soap operas together. I wish I could face all of this head-on, just like you and overcome it, but I simply can't. Everything is changing so fast... I sometimes feel left behind."
Luis wiped away his tears and apologized for rambling.
"I'm sorry. I can't talk to anyone without being compared to my brother or being pressured into converting to Christianity," he explained. "I just wanted to meet someone who understood me, a friend like my grandmother was to me."
