ENID

He didn't make an attempt to say anything just yet after I had turned around to face his direction but simply began making his way towards me until he reached where I was.

I looked up at him expectantly, as he was now standing before me.

Eventually, he parted his lips as if to say something, then as if deciding against it, closed them back before parting them again, all the while, his eyes staring deep into mine as if searching for something within them so much it made me feel uncomfortable and wished I could look away, "I..." he stopped talking and slowly backed away from me. "Never mind." He began to return to his desk.

I frowned, clearly confused.

"What was that about?" I wondered out loud once I was standing outside the door of his office.

I actually attempted figuring out what it really was about but couldn't come up with anything.

Deciding to push it to the back of my mind, I left for my own office, which was next to his.

As I sat at my desk, I busied myself with some pending work while I waited for the general meeting that would be holding by eight that morning. With that in mind, I made sure to set an alarm for 7:55am.

The alarm went off minutes later that which I put off before carefully closing the folders I had opened before me, then rising to my feet.

On getting to the door, I smooth out my dress with my hands and pulled the door open to go outside.

I started again towards Chase's office so we could head down for the meeting together.

Getting there, I was just going to knock on the door of his office when the door was pulled open from the inside and Chase had appeared, taking immediate notice of me.

Soon, we were together in the elevator, and I had punched in the floor number we were headed to, which was the second floor, to be precise.

The meeting lasted for twenty minutes during which Chase was introduced to everyone before we were back in our various offices to start the work for that day until it would be time for the board meeting which was scheduled for nine.

My head began to throb as soon as I resumed work at my desk.

It was a migraine, and I knew instantly it was as a result of sleep deprivation and nothing else.

I should have known that this would happen, having not gotten a proper sleep ever since the night before the evening Dad made Chase and me meet at LANDERS RESTAURANT.

It would have been helpful if I could go home early, but today, being a Monday, I knew that was near to impossible. It was always work and work.

Remembering I had some painkillers in my car, I rose up to go and get it if taking it would at least make the pain dissipate.

I resisted the urge to massage my temple with my palm while I waited for the elevator doors to open up.

"Going somewhere?" I heard a certain familiar voice say which I recognized to be Chase's.

Could we not run into each other like this until it was time for the shareholders' meeting?

I wouldn't deny the fact that I still seemed to be somewhat anxious whenever he was near.

He reached me just then, and I realized I hadn't even answered his question.

"I just need to get something from my car." I replied, forcing a smile.
