ENID

"Uh..." I puffed. "It's actually my friend who's going through something right now, and it's just that her pain is my pain. You know-- that kind of thing?" I guess I didn't have to tell him all of that.

"Yeah," He paused, and I could have sworn that relief had flashed across his striking features just then.

Is he relieved that I'm okay?

He continued. "I understand. Well, I hope you and your friend are able to figure everything out,"

"Me too. Thank you." Nodding my head slightly, I gave him a small smile before turning and opening the door to leave.

Back in my office, the rest of the day had seemed to go by rather slowly. However, as soon as I was done at the company for the day at exactly five in the evening, I drove straight to Maya's place.

She had decided to take a few days off work.

Arriving there, I waited patiently at the door of her apartment once I had rang the doorbell. A few seconds passed, and I heard the soft clicking sound of the door unlocking. The door was soon pulled open, and Maya appeared still in her nightwear, her eyes startlingly red and puffy.

I didn't have to be told to know that she had been crying her eyes out all day, and my heart broke to see her this way.

Without a word, I stepped inside and gently pulled her into a comforting hug. Then, she began to sob quietly again that which caused my heart to break even more. "Yeah, let it all out." I continued to rub her back gently.

She managed to calm down after a while, and we had gone ahead to settle down on the dark grey couch in her living room, although, I decided to get back up to get her an ice pack from the freezer so she could massage her eyes with it.

"You said you have something to tell me when I get here?" I reminded her of what she told me on the phone in the morning when I had called her once I joined her back on the couch.

"So I called Noah again early this morning to tell him my mind was made up about not terminating the pregnancy and that he needed to think twice this time before giving me a reply about how he felt about that and you won't believe what he said." Her voice held so much hurt.

"What did he say?"

"He told me I was being selfish because I knew he was just getting his life together and that I was going to ruin everything by keeping the baby. He even had the nerves to tell me that I got pregnant on purpose so I could tie him down because it was the kind of life that I didn't get to have with my parents."

"What? That son of a..." I quickly caught myself.

"You're right. He is a son of a b**ch! I loved him enough to tell him things about me, and he used it against me that way. I told him we were done right at that point." Maya was fuming with anger by now, and so was I.

I knew how much it must have hurt her to make such a decision to leave him, but I knew Maya would rather keep the baby than try to keep a man who only cared about himself.

"I did well, didn't I?" She tried blinking away a tear that threatened to fall.

I went ahead to hold both of her hands in mine, "Yeah, you did well. Come here," I pulled her into another comforting embrace. "I'm so sorry you had to go through this despite all you have been through, but you know what?" I gradually released her from the embrace.

"What?"

"Why don't we go out and have fun?" I suggested.

She shook her head, "No, I don't want to."
