ENID
Unable to hold it in any longer, I burst into laughter from seeing the perplexed look on Chase's face.
He had looked so concerned earlier thinking that I was really crying, but right now, he looked like he was going to murder me with his eyes for getting him worried for no reason.
I honestly didn't know the reason why I decided to pull that trick on him.
A while ago, I was mad at him for acting all cold and stiff, but right now, I just didn't care about my anger towards him anymore. Besides, being mad at someone for so long can be just so exhausting.
"What was that about?" He demanded in a low, dangerous tone.
"I honestly don't know, too." I shrugged, faking a serious face as well to match with his.
"So childish." He muttered, looking away and resuming whatever he was doing on his phone.
"Chase," I found myself calling his name after some time.
"Hm,"
"Don't you..." I paused, rethinking if it was a good idea asking him if we could relate better with each other, but I had decided against it. "Never mind."
"Why?"
"Why what?" I was lost.
He looked up from his phone to look at me this time, "Why won't you say what you wanted to say to me,"
"Because I don't think it's necessary."
"Okay," He simply said. Nevertheless, he went ahead to turn off his phone and also to place it beside him on the seat. "I'm sorry about earlier at the company."
I thought I heard him wrongly, but at the same time, since now I knew for a fact that he was the type of person to apologize when he was wrong, I waved it off, "It's okay. And, I'm sorry too."
"For what?"
"For tricking you, of course." I chuckled. "I mean, you really thought I was crying the other time. You had looked so worried."
"I would appreciate it if you didn't pull that kind of trick on me again next time." He warned in a very serious tone.
"You gave me no choice. You were acting so cold and all when, in fact, I know it's a facade."
"That's what you think?" An incomprehensible emotion had swirled briefly within his dark orbs.
Thinking of the caring guy who I had met six years ago at the club and who had actually turned out to be him, I could say that I was sure of what I was saying. "Yes, that's what I think."
His scrutinizing eyes carefully searched mine and in the process, causing me to feel uncomfortable for some reason like they always do, "You seem to be so sure."
"That's because..." I quickly caught myself, before, saying instead, "People like you are just not that hard to read."
"People like me," He mused. "And, how many other people who are like me have you encoun..."
"We're here." I hurriedly announced, not wanting our discussion to escalate more than it already had as dad's house had come into view just then.
And like I wanted, the discussion had come to an end.
As soon as the car had been properly parked, Robert killed the car engine, and Chase and I had stepped down from the car to head inside immediately.
Before we left Dad's place that evening, he made sure we stayed for dinner before letting us go.
