ENID

"I can't believe I forgot my phone at the house," Maya complained after checking her purse for it and couldn't find it there.

"Actually- we're not that far from your place yet. We can just go back and get it." I proffered, looking at her through the rearview mirror because it had suddenly become difficult to look at her directly. I didn't want to make any eye contact.

She dropped the green purse back on her lap, "It's fine. That will only take more time, and we're already late,"

"Okay," I replied, glancing at her before focusing back on the road since I was the one driving us to EMPIRE NIGHTCLUB, "You look tired." I observed.

"That's because I am." She let out a sigh.

"You could have called and told him you couldn't make it. I'm sure he would understand." I told her.

"I know," She huffed. "But I just want to be present at his party at least. I owe him that. We can leave after an hour or so since we both have work tomorrow morning, too."

"If you say so," I said with a shrug. "So tell me, what does Cedar look like now? I haven't seen him in two years since we graduated from college. I bet he's gotten more handsome."

They haven't met since then either until a few months back after the two of them stumbled into each other at a mall. They started speaking again after that. Today would be the second time they would be meeting.

"That's an understatement. He's become..." She tilted her head a little bit to the side, thinking, "let's say like a younger version of your brother. Talk about the mysterious aura they both emit, the height and the skin tone. I swear, I always feel like an ant whenever I'm with him."

I shook my head and chuckled. "And, does he still have feelings for you?"

She groaned in response to what I said, "Enid, for the umpteenth time, he never had feelings for me."

"Yes, he did. I saw the way he always looked at you back then."

"Ha ha," she wagged a finger at me, "I'm not going to argue with you this time,"

"That's because you finally agree."

"You're impossible. Wait, so Evelyn is in your house right now?" She checked.

"Yes, she is." I sang.

"You really are too soft. It can never be me who lets her in my house. That little witch!" She hissed, and I laughed.

There was silence between us for a while before she suddenly said, "I still see you the same way, babe. What's there to be ashamed of. I'll say this again, you both made a mistake. You both didn't know. And it happened six years ago."

"I don't know," I muttered.

Earlier, at her house, while she was doing her makeup, she had made a comment about how she kept having the feeling that she had seen Chase somewhere before prior to the time we both saw him at the restaurant some weeks ago. That was when I made up my mind to tell her the truth.

Placing my phone before her on the dresser, I told her to search for Chase Allen on the internet, which she did, surprisingly without asking any questions. When she did, she caught up real quick as soon as she saw his picture and read that he was the owner of SHADES NIGHTCLUB. His last name used to be Martin, which was his stepfather's last name.

"Come on, you're really hurting my feelings while you keep avoiding eye contact with me," She disclosed.

Hearing her say that, I hesitantly turned my head to look at her.
