"Parker! Parker Kate!"

I hear my dad calling my name from somewhere in the house and blindly reach for my phone to see what time it is. 10:44 am. Wow, he's actually up before noon, that's never good, I think to myself as I get out of bed to get dressed. I grabbed the first thing I could find, an oversized tee that belonged to JJ and jean shorts, not wanting to keep him waiting longer than I had to.

I found him in the living room, impatiently waiting for me and I cursed myself in my head for taking an extra minute in my room to brush my hair out. "Hey, dad, what's up?" I ask in a soft low tone while looking down at my hands fidgeting with my rings, something I've done since before I can even remember. My parents always had a way of making me anxious and I had to get the nervous energy out somehow without them knowing what they were doing to me.

"I need you to go pick up my stuff from Luke," he kicked his feet up on the coffee table that was littered with empty beer bottles and cigarette butts.

My breath catches in my throat, my eyes wide, but if he noticed he didn't seem to care. How could he make me go back after what happened last time? But, I know if I don't do as I'm told then all hell is going to break loose and there was only so many times the excuse, 'I got a black eye from falling down the stairs', was going to work. It was getting harder to hide it from my friends and that was the last thing I needed. I don't think I'd be able to handle the look on JJ's face if he ever found out.

The sound of his boots hitting the floor snaps my head in his direction, realizing I had been quiet too long. I could smell the alcohol on him from where I was standing. He glared at me for hesitating, snapping his fingers, "Go! Now! And, Parker Kate, it should only take you twenty minutes, tops!"

I gave him a curt nod, letting him know I understand because I didn't trust my voice. I ran back to my room and grabbed my bag, shoving in a swimsuit and checking to make sure my Altoid mint tin was in there that I stored my joints in. I wanted to make sure that as soon as I was done I could go meet up with Kie at the Chateau and not have to be in this house longer than I had to be. I shoved my cell phone in my back pocket, checking quickly to make sure I had no missed calls or texts and then made my way back down the hall.

"Twenty minutes, kid," my dad yells after me as I pass the living room, "I mean it!"

I didn't respond and when I knew he wouldn't be able to see me I saluted him, giving him the middle finger. I started my trek to the Maybank residence, praying JJ wasn't home. He couldn't know why I was there and he definitely couldn't know that his dad was one of the many reasons behind my nightmares.

I pulled my phone out of my back pocket, scrolling through until I found his name in my recent contacts. I opened our text message thread and typed a message, asking if he was home, but before I could send it I erased it and shoved my phone back in my pocket. I don't know what I would do if he said yes.
