Chapter Four: Can't they see I'm in my jammies?

Reveka.

"I don't recall having a 15-year old mom."

Reveka was my little sister. She was a sophomore and to sum her up, a brat. But I loved her anyways.

"Then, why don't you jog your memory up a bit?"

I ignored her snarky comment. "What are you still doing up?"

"What were you still doing out so late?"

"I don't think I have to answer to you." I walked into the kitchen, threw my bag on the counter and opened the fridge. I thought I just wanted to sleep, turns out I'm starving. I guess ice cream wasn't enough to fill me up.

I could hear her footsteps from behind me. I grabbed a bottle of water. For now. I unscrewed the lid and took a large gulp. I closed the fridge, turned and rested on it. Reveka was watching me intensely.

"I was scared shitless."

"Was it because I was out late or because you were scared of staying home all by yourself?" I joked.

"I'm serious Charvi. I was worried sick."

"Why? It's not like I haven't come this late before."

"Yeah but you'd at least call or leave a message. I've already left you a tons of messages and voicemails since you weren't picking up your calls. Plus the way you left today was weird."

"I'm sorry, today was just a really weird day for me and I just haven't been myself."

"It's probably nostalgia from the long years to come."

I was very grateful she didn't ask where I'd been, I'm a very bad liar under pressure.

"Yeah probably."

"Anyways, I'm beat. I'm going to bed." She stifled a yawn.

"Wait, is mom home?"

Not to my surprise, her reply was no. I don't know why I even asked.

My mom was a nurse so she was always called in at odd hours, but she hadn't always been out this long. Ever since my dad left, she kept picking up any extra shift the hospital had to offer. It was draining, but she felt she needed to. Lucky for us, Shane, my 21 year old brother, was on a football scholarship at college. His twin, my sister, Shayna, was also on a scholarship at a fashion school. By next fall, they'd have already graduated.

By the way things were going, I wouldn't have been able to pay for college. And I so badly wanted to go to an ivy. Good thing I took matters into my own hand. Although, an ivy was way off the table now.

After a few seconds of staring into space, I heated up the leftover pasta to eat. When I was done, I showered, brushed my teeth and went to bed.

"Why aren't you over there?" Reveka questioned for like the 14th time.

Loud music is the bad. Loud music you're not jamming to is the worst. I covered my ears with my pillow.

It was Friday, and as usual, Axel was throwing a party.

To say that it perturbed me that Zane hadn't spoken to me all week was an understatement. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I wanted him to talk to me, it's just unsettling that we just pass each other in the halls like we did before. Like nothing happened.

What exactly happened?

I thought I had made a new friend. Or, at least, an acquaintance. And to make things worse, Leyla wasn't talking to me either. I don't know what I did, and I never got a chance to ask her. When I tried to approach her in the hallway, she turned the other way. Everytime I tried to talk to her, she either didn't reply or just sparked up a conversation with someone else. And I wasn't sure if it was about me or her.
