Chris's POV
"Oh no..." I thought to myself.
"I really messed up this time." He was running towards me faster than I could react. I simply tensed up hoping it would mitigate the impact. Just as he was about to touch me, I saw Trey jump in front of me and throw a punch with his left hand. It connected with his head. He immediately fell down. He was knocked out cold.
I stood there, wide-eyed, mouth gaping open.
"Trey what did you do?! Why did you do that?!!" He stood still, blankly staring at CJ's limp body.
"He'll be aight." He stated blankly.
"TREY!!" I yelled horrified.
"W-we're gonna get in trouble, we're gonna be in so much fucking trouble!!" I started to panic. He simply stepped over CJ's unconscious body and wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me into a tight hug.
"Does this help?"
I was shocked. He had never done that before, at most he only ever ruffled my hair. I stood there for a second, then wrapped my arms around his waist.
"I- T-thanks for that. I don't know what I did to him to make him so angry, but I'm scared, he's scary." I held back my tears. He released his arms from around me and looked back at CJ.
"Help me get him into my car." He said calmly.
"W-what? Trey, I can't-" He looked back at me with a reassuring expression.
"Relax, you grab his legs and I'll handle the rest." He responded.
"But what if someone catches us?" I asked. My anxiety building once more. He looked around.
"I don't see nobody around, the coast looks clear enough." He reassured again.
"Now hurry up and help me before somebody actually does come around." He unlocked his car door, opened it, and then grabbed CJ's underarms and began to lift him. I rushed to help by just barely lifting his legs. He was heavier than he looked and I'm not very strong.
Once we got him in the car, Trey closed the door and looked around.
"Cool. No one saw it." I sighed in relief.
"So what're you gonna do now?" I asked. "Take him home with me and talk it out. And you're coming with me." He said, looking at me.
"Huh?" I uttered in complete shock.
"You're coming with me bro. When he wakes up, he's gonna apologize to you." He said, smiling at me.
"Trey n-no, it's fine, he really doesn't need to it was my fault." I looked down. Was it really my fault? If I had just paid attention, none of this would've happened.
"Stop blaming yourself. You always do that." I looked back up at him. He had a frown on his face. "I've known both of you for a long time, sometimes he's just like this, I don't know why, but it's not your fault lil bro."
I could no longer hold the tears in. I began to cry.
"I just don't want him to get in trouble, h-he's your best friend a-and-." Trey walked over to me and grabbed my hand.
"Look at me. In the eyes." I looked up at his bright brown eyes. "You're one of the nicest human beings I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Don't ever blame yourself for something like this, aight?" He warmly smiled at me.
"Okay." I sniffed and wiped my tears.
"Now come on, we can play Mario Kart, MK, or Street Fighter, your pick bro!" Trey said enthusiastically.
"Okay, just prepare to lose." I awkwardly laughed. We got into his car and drove off. During the ride, I would occasionally look back at CJ's unconscious body. He was so still he almost looked dead.
"Are you sure he'll be alright?" I asked. "Yeah, this ain't the first time I've had to do this." He sighed. "Oh..." I mumbled.
-
We pulled up to his house and into his driveway. Trey was able to carry CJ over his shoulder.
"What about your parents?" I asked.
"They're never really here, plus they consider CJ to be family so they won't suspect nothing" He said.
"Oh, okay." I replied. We went inside and upstairs to his room where he put CJ on his bed.
"I don't know how long he'll be out." He said. "Lemme take his phone and keys so he doesn't do anything stupid when he wakes up." I watched him search CJ's body until he found both items, stuffing them in his own pocket.
"Aight, well anyway, which game you wanna play?" He sat on his bed and turned on his console.
"Uhh, how about MK? You never beat me at that." I laughed.
"Aight, we'll change that today." He laughed. "Mm, I don't think we will." I joked. Time passed by and eventually I completely forgot about the unconscious body behind us.
*2 hours later*
"Bro what?! How did you do that?! You cheated bro!!" Trey said. His eyes laser-focused on the screen.
"Or maybe I'm just better than you." I giggled. I suddenly felt something shuffle behind me. Then I heard CJ groan. My body stiffened.
"Look who's up, Trey said, still looking at the screen. I stayed silent.
"Where's my phone?" He groaned.
"It's on me." Trey responded.
"Give it here, I need to call an ambulance." He said nothing for a second.
"Nah." He responded.
"The fuck you mean nah? Give me back my phone nigga!" His voice startled me.
"No." Trey calmly responded. He tried to stand up, but couldn't.
"Be still bro, you're distracting me and making me lose." Trey laughed. I tried my hardest to ignore CJ.
"Nigga fuck your game, why am I here? And give me my goddamn phone!" He angrily said. I ended up winning again, and Trey finally turned around.
"Not until you apologize to Christopher."
"Apologize for what? He called me a faggot!!" He huffed.
"After you called him that first" Trey argued back.
"He did nothing wrong to you, you literally would've assaulted him if it wasn't for me. That's why I did what I did." CJ remained silent.
"Apologize to him. And look him in the eyes while you do it." I was stiff as a rock while the conversation went down.
"I'm gonna get something downstairs. By the time I come back up y'all better have made up." Trey looked at him intently.
"And you better not do anything to him while I'm gone." Trey threatened.
He stood up and opened the door.
"I'll be back in 10 minutes." He then left and closed the door behind him. The room was filled with silence. I then heard him sigh and stand up.
"Fuck." He whispered. He then walked over and sat next to me which I didn't anticipate. He didn't say anything, just looked down, and then at me. I stared at the screen holding my breath, trying not to shake out of fear. He finally spoke to me.
"You wanna talk, aight, let's talk."
