Chris's POV

"Fine. Come on, I'll talk to him."

I followed CJ into the school, grateful that he'd help me deal with this problem.

"Why didn't you tell Trey about this? Doesn't he protect you from bullies?" He asked.

"Because... we're in High School and people are starting to think me and Trey are dating... I didn't want to ruin his reputation." As much as I felt weak on the inside, I looked 10 times weaker than that. I'm a very easy person to take advantage of... even I know that.

"And you what...? Thought I'd make the perfect scapegoat? First, you want me to take you on a date, and then you ask me to protect you? Sounds like you want me to be your boyfriend or something." He continued walking.

"You could've said no...." I mumbled.

He didn't react to that. I don't know why he makes it seem like I'm a burden for asking when he could've declined...

-

We reached the front doors and before he opened it he stopped.

"What're you doing, why'd you stop?" I look up at him with a confused expression.

"Before I go in and deal with this, I want you to know I'm not doing this because I like you, or want to be your friend. After I deal with this, you're indebted to me, got it?" Something about the way he conveyed the message felt really ominous... almost like he was threatening me.

"S-sure, I'll do whatever you want, I just want him to leave me alone." He nodded and continued inside.

"Where is he?" I looked around the school's halls and across the sea of faces congregating throughout until I was able to point out his face. Darrien Jefferies. He and I are not on very good terms, obviously. Trey even fought him. Twice. But he keeps coming back, like a parasite.

"Over there, the one next to all those other boys. The one with the kinda short dreads. Darrien Jeffries." I almost shuddered saying his name.

"Just don't do anything rash okay?" Knowing what he tried to do to me the other day, I wondered what would happen between them. It's like an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object.

"Stay here, I'll be back." He looked back at me and I nodded. I watched him walk over and start talking to Darrien. They seemed to be talking like they were familiar with each other. I then saw Darrien look over at me and smile and then look back at him. Suddenly, I saw CJ land a left hook on Darrien's chin, knocking him out cold. I was shocked. Why did he do that? I wasn't able to react fast enough as he started to run towards me.

"C'mon!!" He grabbed my hand, practically dragging me out the door with him.

"Hey wait!! Stop! What did you do back there?!" I was shoved into the front seat of CJ's car faster than what should be humanly possible. Suddenly we were pulling out of the parking lot and speeding off.

"CJ?! What're you doing?!" I asked, starting to panic.

"Bitch ass nigga wanna play games? Aight, I'll give him something to play about." He mumbled.

"Stop the car, you're scaring me CJ." He looked like he was about to kill someone.

"If you say something else imma shut you up myself." This scared me. I was alone and defenseless with him so I decided to stop talking. I moved away from him as far as I could in the car's small seat.

"I-I'm scared." He didn't respond, instead, he quickly scowled at me. I guess he wasn't going to do anything that would risk us crashing, but the stare was enough to keep silent for the rest of the car ride. At that moment, I decided to just accept my fate, whatever that may be.
