Fourth of July #4

Nancy's pov

Nancy started walking to the field where her,Robin,and Vickie agreed to meet up,tickets for a show and a small dog plush in hand. She had arrived when she saw two people kissing each other on the field," Guess we weren't the only ones meeting up on the field." She muttered to herself before she kept walking. Suddenly,she heard the sound of fireworks going off,now she could see the whole field,and the two people who were kissing on it.

Nancy's eyes landed back onto the two people kissing on the field,their faces were now revealed by the light from fireworks along with their hair. On Nancy's right there was a tall girl with freckles and dirty blonde hair,could it be Robin? She shook herself out of the thought,why would it matter to her if she were kissing someone? Still,she had to know. She looked to her left,there was a shorter girl with short orange hair,she stepped back in realization.It was Vickie.

" R-Robin?" Nancy's voice shook,not because Robin was kissing a girl,it was because she wanted to be the one who Robin was kissing.She felt a pit in her stomach,worse than any others she had.She stood there,frozen,like a deer in headlights and her lip quivering.Why did Robin have to kiss Vickie and why did Nancy feel so hurt?

" Nancy- I can explain. Please! You're my only other friend,just don't leave." Robin ran up to Nancy,looking down sadly.Nancy wanted to run away,but she didn't,she just turned her sadness into anger," Explain what?That you just brought me to rub you and Vickie's relationship in my face?That you like Vickie and not m-" Nancy stopped herself,her eyes watering,why couldn't it be her that kissed Robin? She grabbed Nancy's hand in hopes that it would keep her there," Never mind,just let me go!I can't take this anymore." The anger in Nancy's voice had faded by the time Robin had grabbed her hand and turned into sadness.She handed Robin the magic show tickets she had bought and the dog plush she won earlier," Enjoy the rest of the fair with Vickie,I just don't care anymore."

Nancy walked away from the field,wiping tears from her now puffy red eyes.She felt Robin's eyes on the back of her head,but she couldn't look back,she was too hurt to.She climbed into her car,slamming the door shut.She had just pushed Robin away from her,and now she would have no one to talk to again.

Nancy made it to her house,wiping a few more tears from her face,she walked into her house,only to hear shouting." Where the hell were you El? You have been acting differently! You were mad about me not saying that I love you,but you can't even say it back,what is with you?" Mike yelled angrily." Mike,I swear there's nothing going on.I still care for you." Mike let out an angry sigh," Care for me? Is that all you feel for me now?"

El stormed out of Mike's room,bumping into Nancy. El looked up at Nancy,wiping the tears from her eyes," Oh,hey Nancy." she muttered,trying to walk out of the door," Wait,El,can we talk?" Nancy stopped her and walked to the couch,patting a spot on it next to her. El sighed,sitting down on the couch," Could we talk about what happened?"

" I have been visiting Max's house a lot. I even sleep over their sometimes to read her Wonder Woman comics because she can't read them now,but I don't know why Mike has a problem with that." Nancy thought for a moment,why would Mike be mad about El visiting Max? "Was there something going on between you and Max?"El had the look of guilt of her face," Mike doesn't know about it."she muttered," El?" She looked up at Nancy," Yes,there is something going on."

Nancy tapped her fingers on the table in front of the couch," Do you like Max?" El looked down at her hands,fiddling with her fingers nervously," I still care for Mike,I just can't say that I love him,I can fix this,right?" Nancy was brought back to when she saw Jonathan at the end of spring break,she thought she could fix her relationship,but she couldn't." I'm sorry,y-you can't fix this,not if you feel something for someone else."Nancy knew from experience.She couldn't fix her relationship with Jonathan,not after Pennhurst and her talk into the woods,she tried to shove her feelings down,but no matter what she did her relationship was doomed." Nancy,are you alright?",El gently shook Nancy's shoulder," Yeah,I'm sorry if I sounded hopeless,it's jsut there's a lot on my mind." El had a look of concern.

" You like someone,don't you?",In that moment,tears came rolling down Nancy's cheeks," I really like her,but there's nothing I can do to make her like me,I'm hopeless."
