Nancy's pov
Nancy walked into her house, looking into the living room to see Mike's arms curled around his legs. "Mike." She called to him softly, sitting on the couch next to him. "El broke up with me." Nancy couldn't help the feeling of guilt that overcame her. She had taken El on a date with Max,She had convinced El to follow her heart, and now her brother was suffering because of it. "I'm sorry Mike." Nancy pulled him into a hug.
" I broke up with Jonathan a few weeks ago." Nancy had to get Mike's mind off of El,so she told him about Jonathan. "That doesn't make sense. You seem happier." Mike looked confused, who wouldn't be? She loved Jonathan and was sure she would've been sad about the breakup, but no,that wasn't what happened. After a moment of thought, she admitted to her own confusion with a chuckle,"It doesn't. I guess I found someone better than him."
A smile spread across Nancy's face," Gross, you're all smiley." She messed up Mike's hair playfully. He stood up with a groan," Whoever this person is,tell them that they have successfully changed you,for worse." Nancy chuckled at Mike's sarcastic comment, her smiling slowly fading as she started to think about the night at the Byers' house. "If I get the chance to talk to them.."
" Who is it? Steve? Because I heard from Dustin that you two were practically together during the whole Vecna thing,it makes sense too-",Nancy cut Mike off with a stern voice,"Mike. It isn't Steve." Mike's confusion grew more visible, one of his eyebrows were raised and his eyes narrowed,"Who is it then?"
" I like Robin." Mike's eyes widened," As in Steve's best friend?" Nancy tensed, looking up at Mike who was now getting up from the couch. He looked back at her with an unreadable expression, probably confusion," I-I'm going to bed."
Nancy sighed, getting up from her spot from the couch. She opened her bedroom door, flopping onto her bed. She pulled the covers over her body, laying her head on the pillow next to her. She remembered when Robin had slept there with her, arms wrapped around her waist and head on her shoulder. She wished she hadn't assumed things that night at the Byers' house,or even gone to Robin's room. Here she was losing someone again, even if Robin wasn't dead. She just hoped that her decision was worth it,Robin would be happy, right?
Nancy was now grabbing a few drinks for the party at Steve's house that was in a few hours. She just hoped she would get to see Mike and El talking again after being broken up. If she was being honest with herself, their problem paralleled hers. She wanted to talk to Robin after what she did,but how could she? She probably had broken her heart. She opened the cooler to grab a six pack of beer, slinging her purse over her shoulder.
Nancy turned the keys in her car, pulling her car out into the street. She shoved her hands into her purse, feeling around the items jumbled together in the purse to grab Steve's address. There it was again, the picture from the day at the mall. It always seemed to pop up in her purse,on her nightstand, and in her wallet,as if to remind her about what she did. She always thought about how she left Robin at the fair, even though it was a long time ago,and how what she wanted for such a long time, she rejected. She had to make it up to Robin somehow, she would do anything to make it right.
Nancy pulled into a parking spot, stepping out of her car. She looked up at the apartment complex, address in hand and purse slung over her shoulder. She walked up the steps of the stairs leading up to Steve's apartment. Her fist hovered over the door. If she was being honest with herself, she was nervous, she hadn't spoken to her brother or the party in a while. Nancy took a deep breath,it was going to be fine,or at least, that's what she told herself. She knocked her fist against the door two times before she heard shouting from inside," Why can't you get the door yourself dingus? Fine I'll get it!"
The voice sounded familiar to Nancy, too familiar. Keys shifted in the lock before the door opened. She looked up from her shoes to see the person standing at the door," Hey-" She cut herself off as soon as she saw the all too familiar freckled face and dirty blonde hair that belonged to Robin. The Robin she had rejected because she thought it was the best for her. Robin's shaky and raspy voice broke her out of her thoughts," H-hey. Come in."
