Trigger Warning: violence

The nurse had just finished cleaning up the wound at the corner of Taesan's mouth before she put band aid over it. She returned her utensils and removed her gloves, before she looked at him.

'All done,' she told him. 'That must have been a very terrible fall Taesan. I've worked here for 20 years but I've never treated such serious wounds.'

'I'm just...very clumsy.' He answered weakly, looking down at his hands.

The nurse looked at him carefully, then noticed a small smile appear on his face. She didn't understand how someone who had such painful wounds would even smile in such a moment.

'Is everything okay Taesan?' she asked him, having just learned his name that morning.

'Oh...yes.' He immediately stopped smiling. 'I'm not feeling very well ma'am. Can I stay here until lunch time?'

'Sure. Take it easy, okay? And if you feel too much pain, let me know.' She moved over to the medicine cabinet and started organizing the pills.

Taesan lied down on the bed and faced the window, looking outside into the green school lawn. He couldn't sleep with the pain he was feeling and all the thoughts that were jogging around his head. The sterilized smell in the room also made it worse. What happened today was terrible, and it was something which he had actively been trying to avoid. He knew that talking to Amy-Janett was one of the worst things he could do if he wanted to remain in the shadows, and it was exactly what put him in this situation.

Even though he was in so much pain and what had happened could possibly lead to what he feared the most, there was at least a small sense of relief that it didn't lead to that. Even thinking about the possibility of that happening made his head hurt, and too many painful memories came in his mind, the most recent one of his former best friend, Sungho.

Before he knew it, the bell for lunch rang. Taesan didn't want to get up and face the familiar school halls, but he felt he had no choice.

'Can I go home?' he finally asked the nurse once he had sat up. 'I'm just not feeling well.'

'I understand,' she responded. 'It was a very serious fall.' She answered suspiciously before grabbing a permission slip and beginning to sign it. 'Just give this to the principal and go on your way.'

'Thank you.' He got up from the bed slowly and took the permission slip. He was going to get home and get some rest, and somehow explain to his mother that he had fell down the stairs, even though he was a very careful and meticulous person.

He walked out the door slowly and closed it, before he saw Amy-Janett standing by the door.

'Please,' he immediately said as he started to walk away.

'What?' she followed behind him. 'Taesan I was simply concerned about you. I heard you fell down the stairs.' She said sadly. 'I'm so sorry,'

'It's fine.' He continued to walk. If he was fine, he would have walked much quicker to avoid her.

'You don't look really fine,' she continued. 'Wow Taesan how far did you fall!?' she looked at the bruises on his face.

'Do you mind?' he stopped and looked in her direction. 'Go have lunch with your friends, I'm going home.'

'Geez,' she folded her arms. 'Why are you so unfriendly all of the sudden? I thought we were friends, weren't we together on Saturday?'

Taesan then remembered how he wouldn't have sold anything if it weren't for her. He knew that she was a good person who had helped him out, and being cold to her was not a very good idea.
