The morning was cool and marked by the relentless autumn air. The twins, bound by newfound understanding, woke up in Ms. Han's cozy home.
As they gathered in the kitchen for a simple breakfast, an announcement echoed through the town, reaching every corner and every household. An important meeting at the town hall, declared by Mayor Myung. Parents and children alike were urged to attend, leaving an air of anticipation lingering in the small community.
'Jaehyun, do you want to go?' Taesan asked. 'I know it won't be easy for you, but I'm pretty curious to hear what has to be said.'
Jaehyun hesitated, the memories of his tumultuous relationship with his father still haunting him. 'I...I don't want to see him.'
Ms. Han placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. 'It's okay, sweetheart. You don't have to go if you don't want to.'
Jaehyun looked back at Taesan, who was also awaiting his response.
'I think...I want to go.' Jaehyun said with determination. 'I think I also want to hear what's going on.'
After the three were done with breakfast, they embarked on their short journey to the Town Hall on Ms. Han's car. Once they had arrived, Taesan and Jaehyun encountered their friends, Amy-Janett, Sunghoon and Lily near the entrance. Ms. Han decided to go inside, leaving the kids to interact.
'Hey guys,' Amy-Janett greeted, her eyes flickering between Taesan and Jaehyun. 'How are you holding up?'
Taesan offered a reassuring smile. 'We're doing better. It's a process, you know.'
Sunghoon and Lily exchanged glances, not understanding the situation.
'Wait, what's going on?' Lily asked. 'Didn't Jaehyun try to stab Taesan? And now they're hanging out again? And what exactly are they holding up from?'
'It's a long story, we'll tell you.' Amy-Janett chuckled. 'A loooot has happened within these days.'
Before they could delve deeper into the conversation, a man who worked at the Town Hall instructed everyone to enter the hall and take their seats. The wooden benches awaited their occupants, and the friends walked inside.
Amidst the crowd, Taesan spotted his mother, and he and his brother along with his friends joined her. The group formed a united front amidst the uncertainty.
The hum of conversations continued until Mayor Myung's secretary stepped up to the stage. A collective murmur swept through the crowd as puzzled glances were exchanged by the town's people.
'Good morning, everyone,' the secretary began, projecting a sense of poise that bellied the confusion in the room. 'I apologize for the unexpected situation. Mayor Myung has prepared a speech that he believes is best delivered by someone close to the heart of the matter.'
The uncertainty in the air thickened as the secretary's gaze found Jaehyun in the crowd.
'Myung Jaehyun, please come up to the stage.' She announced. Fear and bewilderment were imprinted across Jaehyun's face.
'I...I didn't know about this.' Jaehyun stammered, casting an uncertain glance at Ms. Han and Taesan.
'Go ahead,' Ms. Han encouraged.
Once Jaehyun had made his way to the front, The secretary handed him a neatly folded piece of paper. 'Mayor Myung believes it's crucial for you to deliver this message.'
Jaehyun hesitated for a moment, not understanding why this responsibility was thrust upon him. He stepped over to the podium which the secretary had moved from, the weight of the town's collective gaze bore down on him.
