The news about Mayor Myung's departure had shaken the whole town, and most of the people were already talking about who would be the new mayor. Some had suggested Mr. Cho, while others had suggested Mrs. Kim. Either way, there was still a somber atmosphere as the person who had made Green Haven what it was at that time had disappeared.
Among the most heartbroken people was Jaehyun. He had gone to the Myung residence which now stood in silence. The room echoed with memories as Jaehyun, accompanied by Ms. Han, entered to collect his belongings. The air felt heavy with the reality of their fractured family.
Jaehyun walked through the halls, his steps resonating with the emptiness. The walls, lined with pictures of their happier times, seemed to hate him. His gaze lingered on a family portrait - himself and his father smiling - a painful reminder of the split that had occurred.
Ms. Han placed a comforting hand on Jaehyun's shoulder, breaking the silence. 'I know this is difficult for you.'
He nodded, sadness in his eyes. 'I can't believe he just left, mom. Him and I were...we were best friends. Now it's all gone.'
Ms. Han sighed, 'Sometimes people make choices we can't understand. It's not your fault, Jaehyun. Your father has his reasons, and you have to move forward.'
As they entered Jaehyun's room, reminders of a life well-lived stared back at them. Posters on the wall, a desk cluttered with schoolwork, and shelves filled with books - they all were witness to the life that had abruptly vanished.
Jaehyun sat at the edge of his bed, running his fingers over a worn out photo album. Flipping through the pages, images of laughter, family outings, and shared moments were before him. He paused at a picture of him and his father in a boat, both wearing smiles.
'He taught me how to fish, you know?' Jaehyun mumbled, his voice wavering. 'It was our favorite hobby when he was free.'
Ms. Han sat beside him. 'It's alright to miss him for a while. Losing a connection like this is tough, but remember I'm here for you. We'll create new memories as a new family...you, me and Taesan.' She smiled.
Jaehyun looked at his mother. 'I guess we'll have to start afresh.'
She nodded in agreement.
As Jaehyun continued packing, his room grew emptier. The bond between father and son had broken, but maybe now it was the time for a bond between mother and son and twin and twin.
...
Meanwhile, Taesan was spending his morning at the abandoned train station he had been at with Amy-Janett some time back. The two of them were surrounded by the autumn constant wind.
Taesan looked at Amy-Janett. 'You know, last time we were here, this place did feel like magic, but it never felt as magical as it does now.'
Amy-Janett smiled; her fingers interlocked with Taesan's.
'I really wanted to thank you,' Taesan started, 'thank you for not seeing me as a monster. Thank you for seeing me as a human being even when everyone turned away.'
Her eyes were filled with genuine affection. 'Because you're not one. You're just someone who's been through a lot, and I admire your strength.'
'Well...I really can't express how much it means to me.'
She cupped his cheek with a gentle yet firm touch. 'It's fine. Imagine if I had judged you!' she brought a playful tone to the moment. 'I would have totally missed out on a great guy!'
Taesan slightly chuckled, then looked back at her with seriousness in his eyes. He felt a lot of emotion. 'I love you, Amy-Janett.'
Her eyes sparkled with love. 'And I love you, Taesan. Always.'
As the wind continued to blow, they shared a kiss - it was a promise sealed in the serene abandoned train station. Even though there was still fear and uncertainty in the future, for the first time, Taesan felt he had the courage to handle it.
