Taesan felt like he couldn't breathe as too many memories were making their way to his mind. He wanted to forget everything after coming to Green Haven, and even though he knew he couldn't, what had happened had reminded him all too much.
All he could think of now was how was what had happened in Green Haven, and the tragic moment that had made him and his mother leave the city.
Sungho, he wondered how his former best friend was now. He still remembered the shocked and scared faces of everyone around them. He remembered how Sungho had looked like he was dead, and his mother who was crying at the scene in the school hallway.
The words monster had come out of her mouth so many times, and they had come out Jaehyun's the moment he had done something so similar. This felt all too familiar, he was afraid of the same fate...
'Taesan,' his mother's familiar voice had said once she had opened the door to his room. She was standing in the doorway and looked at her son who was lying on his bed in the dark room. 'You should open the windows a little more often.'
He simply lifted his head and looked at her, waiting for her to tell him something substantial.
'Well someone's here to see you, that girl from earlier.' His mother said. 'Apparently, she's here to tell you about homework.'
'Homework?' Taesan slowly sat up from his bed. 'I didn't know we had homework.'
His mother shrugged, as if to show she wouldn't know anything about it. 'Well make sure you know what to do, I want you to get good grades okay?'
'Sure,' he nodded his head and got up from his bed, then left the bedroom to walk to the front door.
Once he had opened it, he looked at the person he had expected to be there and gave her a curious look. 'Hi Amy-Janett,' he stepped out of the house and joined her outside by the door. 'I didn't know we had homework.'
'Oh, we don't.' she said rather sweetly, different from her typical demeanor when she had talked to the other boys.
'Hmm...' he was confused as to why she was there, but maybe it would be rude to ask her why she was there. He simply waited for an explanation.
'I just felt bad about what happened today at school.' She finally spoke, looking down at the ground and not wanting to meet his eyes. She felt, for the first time, that she was shy to talk to a boy. 'I'm so sorry. I think you must feel like you don't have a friend around here. But if you ever need a friend, I'm here.'
This wasn't the time for him to ramble on about how he didn't want a friend, but to simply accept her care at this moment. He knew they couldn't be close friends, but he couldn't pretend he wasn't touched. And that, even though he wouldn't want to admit it, he actually needed a friend.
'Thank you.' He smiled at her then decided to start a conversation. 'What's the name of that girl you're always with?'
'Lily? My best friend?' she felt her heart flutter at the fact that they were once again having an actual conversation.
'Yes,' he nodded. 'She doesn't really seem to like me.' He added a chuckle at the end, not wanting Amy-Janett to think he was too concerned about it.
'Oh yeah, well,' Amy-Janett similarly chuckled. 'She's convinced you're not as good as you seem. Well, Lily is very intelligent so she prides herself in being able to read people very well. And she's usually right, but I think she's wrong this time.'
The smile slowly faded from Taesan's lips. 'Maybe she's right about me.'
'Oh come on. You wouldn't even hurt a fly, you're so innocent.' She now looked into his eyes and smiled at him. All she could see a purity and kindness that she hadn't really seen in Green Haven.
