After the eventful visit to Hannah's place, we headed over to Andrés place to let his parents know.
When I knocked on the door, his father burst into tears and pulled me in for a hug. Looking around as he hugged me, my heart dropped when I realised I couldn't tell Andrés mother that we had found them justice; she was already gone.
"Hey, do you want come in?" He asked but I shook my head.
"I would love to but it's just a quick visit. I'm sorry that your wife couldn't be here to hear this but Andrés killer has been caught."
"Oh my god, that's amazing. Thank you...I take it you were the one that caught him."
"Yes with a little help but I was the one who did it."
"Thank you so much. Andrés would be so proud. Take care, Makaela."
"I will." I said with a warm smile before I walked down the steps and back to Niko's car.
Next house was Alex's and I just knew it was going to be out in the middle of no where. He always loved the idea of growing old on a farm. I had never visited his home but he always talked about his cattle and how Betty was his favourite.
What took me by surprise was when a young boy opened the door, dressed in a flannel shirt and was wearing a cowboy hat.
"Billy, who is it, honey?" Asked Laura as she approached the door.
"Dunno." He said and looked me up and down.
"Hey." I said as she looked at me.
"It's good to see you, Mak. This is Billy, Alex's son."
"What? I-I never knew you were pregnant. He never told us."
"I didn't find out until three weeks after his death."
"I'm so sorry."
"It's okay but it's been five years. What are you doing here?"
"Alex's killer has been caught and was killed. He can't hurt anyone anymore."
"Who killed him? Was it someone that knew what he went through? Please tell me he suffered."
"I made sure he did."
"Are you sure you didn't also suffer? Look at you, you look like shit."
"Thanks Laura. Yeah it's been hard but I'm glad that he's dead."
"Thank you for notifying me."
"You're welcome. It was good to see you again."
"You too."
The last house was Sarah's and I knew it was going to be a difficult one. Her father always blamed me for getting her into that unit because I had convinced Patrick to look at her cv. I didn't know it was going to end up this way though.
On the other hand, her mom was much more welcoming and would often invite me to their family bbqs even though I was only a friend.
When I knocked on the door, I took a step back in case it was her father that swung it open. I didn't want to be attacked or anything.
My plan didn't work.
The second he laid eyes on me, he grabbed my jacket and threw me into the door frame, making my face throb with pain as my eye sight went blurry. Reaching out, I tried to grasp at his hand but it was no use, he just saw red like a bull and went into full attack mode.
It wasn't until Niko showed up with his gun raised that he finally stopped what he was doing and raised him arms up to surrender. Not to mention, his wife smacked him with a rolling pin.
