Beth won't give me a minute to apologise, but I thought the worst when I saw Paige standing outside my house looking upset, that's why I went to check on her.

She was sad when I went over to her place, but I didn't get an explanation for why, but she asked me to stay to keep her company and I did because it's the least I could do after what she's done for me.

"Did you hear any of what I just said."

Jordan's voice breaks my thoughts and I turn to him. "No."

"I said, Bradley got a lead on a car. He's going to scope things out tonight. I'm going with him. You coming?"

After our chat about the slouch in my parent's investigation, we decide to do some investigating but without involving Riot or Sev. I'm trying to hack the city's cameras where the accident happened as it's the quickest way to connect the dots, and I've been at it for a while with no luck.

Nodding yes, I say, "what's the make."

"Volkswagen, 2005 registration. We're not sure on the colour yet."

"Anything else?"

"No... but there's a rumour going around town, and you probably want to speak to the model before she hears about it."

I don't have to ask, but I do anyway. "What rumour?"

"People are talking about the incident from back in the day. They're under the impression that you'll be going back to prison soon."

"They do that every few years Jord, it's why I avoid coming back."

"Well, I thought I'd let you know, and you should talk to Beth before anyone else. With that said, I'm taking Riot out before we head out tonight. Have you seen her?"

I shake my head no, then add, "have you notice how peculiar they've been acting? I think they might be up to something. Has Ry, given you any indication?"

"She can't hide anything from me to save her life, but she has avoided me to spend time with Sev and Beth...they've been hanging out with the girl next door, a lot."

Beth's being nicer than usual towards Paige, and it gives me a funny feeling. "Jord, why do I get the sense of keeping your enemy close and all that....?"

"Wanna find out what they're up to?!"

"We've got better things to concentrate on. Leave the women to get up to whatever they're getting up to."

"C'mon, boss, you're no fun."

"Yeah, I know. Call me when you're ready to head out."

"I think it's nothing. They could be fuck-buddies."

I hear Riot say as I approach the living room. I know Beth and Sevyne are there too because it's the place they gather for council.

"How is that any better Riot? Beth, I think you should talk to him because there's no other way to get to the bottom of the issue."

"I don't know how; I've never had feelings like this before..."

I smile when I hear Beth's voice. The feelings she's talking about, I feel them too. I've never felt this connected with anyone else. She's what I've been looking for all this time.

"Corey and I -"

She stops talking when I walk in with jealousy riding my back. She's not talking about me. She's talking about her ex. When will she see that he's in love with someone else?

"Micah, hi-" she greets with the sweetest smile.

"Save it Beth!"

I can't bear to think it's not genuine, and like a jockey, jealousy whips me. She's making a big deal about my friendship with Paige when she's still in love with her ex. Now, I see why she came. She's still using me as her distraction while she waits to get back with her him. How could I be so blind to see that this is it for her.
