Chapter 16: I always come back

"Am I interrupting something?" The shadow says.

You rush to the silhouette.

"Brother!"

You hug Ryan, breaking into tears.

" - I thought you left with the others!

- As soon as I realized you weren't with us, I told them to leave without me. You know I always come back for you."

Frederic looks away, embarrassed.

" - So... how did you find this room? He asks.

- Well, I was being chased by the alligator animatronic and ran to the nearest room."

You gasp, petrified.

"So you are telling me there is a murderous machine nearby?!"

You notice a big figure appearing in the door frame.

" - There you are! Montgomery exclaims.

- RUN!"

Frederic grabs your wrist as the three of you flee away from Monty. 

"There's a secret exit out there!" Your partner shout.

He breaks down another door. You are guided into a long hallway until you abruptly turn left and find yourself once again at the entrance of the pizzaplex.

" - What do we do now?

- We need to hide. There's an empty dumpster over there wide enough for the three of us."

You hop into the container and hold your breath.

"Hey kids, come on out! We're only trying to help!" Montgomery Gator says.

After searching for you for a while, he sighs and gives up. You hastily get out of your hiding place.

"We need to get back to the ballroom to get our clothes."

You retrace your steps and re-enter the dancing hall. You change and slip back on your normal clothes before joining the boys.

" - Now that you're done changing, what's next? Ryan asks

- We need to save her, Frederic.

- I've already told you we can't!

- What are you guys talking about?

- Do you remember the cursed game we played, Ryan?

- The two arcade games with the princess?

- Yes.

- What's wrong with it?

- After completing the second game, there was that purple creepy smiling face saying "I always come back". This was the incarnation of a demon that is said to possess the nightguard.

- What nightguard?

- Didn't you meet the rabbit woman?

- The only bunny I saw was a blue shattered one.

- We didn't see that one. Anyway, there is a woman wearing a hare costume that is wandering in the pizzaplex and is trying to kill us. She is the nightguard being possessed by the evil spirit coming from the game we played.

- This sounds crazy.

- I know it does, but you have to trust me.

- I do, bro/sis/sibling."

Your conversation is interrupted by the arrival of Roxy, Chica and Monty.

" - You might as well give up.

- Are you lost?

- You can hide, but you can't hide!"

You turn around and see the white rabbit.

" - Are you having fun yet?

- We have to get out of here!"

You run as fast as you can and reach the Fazer Blast. You break down a door and enter another security office.

" - Where are we?

- In the nightguard's office.

- [Y/n], look..."

Ryan points out an arcade machine.

" - This is it... the third part of the game...

- [Y/n], this is not safe.

- I know, but we have to save her!

- Do you think finishing this haunted game will set her free? What if it makes the devil materialize itself?!

- Frederic, we have to try!

- Frederic, listen to them. We have to try everything to end this nightmare.

- Ugh, fine, as it seems like you are both against me...

- Please, try to understand..."

You insert your last Faztoken in the arcade cabinet. The screen lights up, allowing you to start the game. The princess is back with her lantern and her sword. After getting rid of many weird opponents, you need to light up braziers in a maze without attracting a fox animatronic. It's easy to outrun that enemy. Once you found all the fire pits, you manage to get out of the labyrinth. You are led to a glitching locked door. You use your sword to open it. After doing so, the game shuts down.

"What does that mean?"

You turn back and see the killer rabbit. The three of you yelp in fear. However, she drops her knife and removes her mask and her bowtie, revealing the blonde nightguard.

"Everything is going to be okay now. I'm sorry, this wasn't me."

You smile at her.

"Thank you for setting me free, she ads. Now, you need to get out of here. The entrance will open in 30 minutes."

You exit the office but she doesn't follow you.

" - Don't you come with us?

- No. I have to stay here. If he comes back for me, I'll have to face him. Find a place to hide until morning comes. Goodbye."

You nod and run away. Unfortunately, you face the murderous machines once more.

" - Give up. You can't win.

- I found you!

- Game over, kids!"

You sprint towards the next room, but Monty rushes towards Ryan and grabs him.

" - [Y/n]! Help!

- Ryan!"
