My shoulder had been dislocated. I suffered in silence till the second I reached the medical room in the gang's base. When the nurse came over to shove my arm back into its socket, I screamed with no restraint. If I thought the pain of the injury was bad, reversing it might've been worse.

Alongside the dislocated shoulder, my lip was split; my left eye was black and bruising; the remainder of my face was developing various cuts and bruises and one of my ribs was slightly cracked. That hero had done a number on me, even the nurse showed some concern.

I gave her the luxury of a quiet check up after the shoulder ordeal and was practically falling asleep on the spot when a little head peaked out from behind the door of the resting room. The smallest horn was growing out of it and hair the colour of stormy clouds flowed down.

A genuine smile tugged on my lips and stress seemed to seep out of my body in a way only one other person could do to me.

"Is that... a fairy?" I gasped, getting up from the bed and walking slowly to the young girl hiding behind the door.

She giggled before jumping out and doing a little twirl for me. "Nope! Just me."

My smile faltered for a moment at the sight of the bandages wrapped over her like a second skin. The first time I'd met her was there, in the medical room and at the time she was significantly younger and more fragile than any one I'd ever met.

She was still a frail thing with pale skin and dark hues beneath her eyes but the rare ruby of her irises maintained its innocent spark. They did things to her. Things no one was willing to tell me and things only particular people knew about. All I was aware of was the fact that if she wasn't up in the main house with Overhaul, she was in the medical room or the conjoined nursery.

They were always treating her for something and despite the calming effect she had on a person, it still made me sick to my stomach whenever I saw her drained of life and energy. From my first visit here, her and I had become good friends even if the only time I got to see her was when I was hurt.

I was ashamed to admit that getting injured during missions was something I hoped for... It meant that I would have to stay overnight for additional recovery and I'd get to chat with my little friend. For one night, I could be away from the insufferable people of my division and I could talk to someone that enjoyed my company.

Sure, she was a five year old child but it was like having a little sister or a daughter. Eri was the only light in this house but they didn't deserve her in any way. If I successfully found a way out of here, I'd be taking her with me undoubtedly.

Upon seeing her shy smile, I opened my arms as I always did. She laughed before racing towards me and wrapping her arms around my waist. I spun her around in a hug before kneeling down and running my fingers through her hair.

"How have you been my little sweet?"

She ignored my question entirely as a face full of concern took over her features. For a second she reached out with the intention of tracing my injuries before remembering what her touch could do. Eri retracted her hand, a frown pulling her lips down.

"Why does it look worse than usual?" she asked quietly, referring to my damaged skin.

I sighed, flopping down to the ground and crossing my legs. The youth looked much too worried for her own good so I patted the floor in front of me. After she had settled into a similar position, I explained what had happened.

"So you know how we aren't really good guys?"

She nodded.

"Well... there are good guys as you know, Pro Heroes and such, that fight us to make sure everyone outside is safe. I had to fight one of them." I added a light shrug resulting in a wince due to the damaged tissue I had failed to consider when I made the movement.
