I extended my hand to him. "Looking forward to working together."

And it was true. Because it felt like the ground beneath my feet was more stable and I wasn't so stranded on my own. Even if it turned to shit, any help I could extract from him in the meantime would be useful to me.

He shook my hand confidently, tilting his head to the side. "I'm looking forward to not being beaten up by you."

"Pfft. Let's not get ahead of ourselves," I counter, a laugh tumbling past my lips.

And then suddenly, it felt normal again. It felt just like how it was before we misfortunately met in that alley and fought so ferociously. My smile faltered before falling entirely. I sucked in a deep breath and jumped to my feet before peeking around the corner of the warehouse to ensure we were entirely alone.

Squinting into the distance, I saw the silhouettes of the League of Villains slowly shrink in the distance as they vacated the premises. The explosion was bound to have attracted the attention of someone nearby and it was more than likely police or heroes were on the way. We needed to make haste.

Jogging back to Eraserhead, I offered my hand to him and helped him up. "You think you can walk some distance?"

He nodded. "Parked my car not too far from here. Shouldn't be a problem to walk there."

"Lead the way."

With his hand still in mine once he was up on his feet, I swiftly brought it around my shoulder before wrapping my arm around his waist from the back. The less agitation we caused to his leg, the lesser the damage. And... the less guilt I would feel hopefully.

His body seemed to freeze for a moment when I held onto him. A natural reaction to a dangerous person touching you I suppose. Glancing up, I intended to show him with my eyes that I meant no harm. His own gaze looked exhausted as per usual but there was a new hypnotising intensity in them. I noticed it travelled down to my lips but it was almost too quick to judge whether or not it was a hallucination. I inhaled sharply and cleared my throat to lessen the thickness of the air between us.

The Pro-Hero directed me in the right direction as we passed between the cargo crates and furthered our distance from the sea. Discreetly, I glanced back at it longingly before promising myself to come see it again one day when the circumstances weren't so dire.

Along the way there, we fell into a comfortable silence. I didn't want to over exhaust him by involving him in a conversation as he was still taking deep, heavy breaths. On the bright side he was limping less and the bleeding appeared to have stopped.

"Just round there," he mumbled as we exited the dock and rounded the street.

Eraserhead fiddled with something in his pocket before pulling out a set of car keys. With the press of a button, I watched in anticipation as one of the cars on the street turned on. The lights flashed, illuminating the dim environment.

It looked like a sports car but it was an old, classic model. As we neared it, the silver logo was shaped like an animal with the word 'Jaguar' written beneath. I admired the narrow shape and the funny looking headlights that reminded me of an insect's eyes.

"What day would be the most suitable for you to meet with me next week so we can discuss what we know?" I asked as he reached for the car door.

He paused midway, turning his head to me. "Get in. We'll talk about it as I drive you home."

My brows shot up in surprise. "Um... I appreciate that but I don't think it's necessary. I can get home just fine."

Getting in the car with him sounded nerve-wracking. My mind was already whirring with replays of moments from before. I would be sitting beside him once more and it would've been like nothing had changed but it had. Everything had changed since that day and I wasn't sure how to act anymore. Was I supposed to distance myself for protection and reassurance or was I supposed to brave a chance and trust him?
