Miranda rolls her suitcase into her room, her parents following with a few boxes of her things.

"Okay. That's everything." Miranda says as her parents put the stuff down and her older sister, Bella, walks in with another box.

"Oh, I can't believe it. Both of our babies in college!" Abby gushes, grinning proudly at her two daughters.

"Look out for your sister." Jack tells Bella. "Same for you." He tells Miranda.

"Of course, dad." Bella says while Miranda salutes him.

"Now, you have your salt, right? And your knives?" Abby asks.

"Obviously, yeah." Miranda nods.

"They're just precaution." Jack says.

"I know." Miranda says. "You guys sticking around or gonna head back?"

"Oh, we gotta get back before too late. Pick Lucy up from the neighbor's." Abby says, referring to the family's golden retriever.

"Right." Miranda nods.

After bidding goodbyes, the two parents leave.

"Need any help?" Bella asks, sitting on the bed.

"No, I think I got it." Miranda says. "Not like it's a complex activity."

They both turn when the door opens and a blonde with long hair walks in.

"Hi." The blonde greets. "Uh... I'm presuming one of you are Miranda?"

"Me." The said girl raises her hand. "Hi. Um... it was..." She tries to remember.

"Jessica." The blonde sweetly smiles. "You can call me Jess, though." She shakes Miranda's hand.

"Okay, cool." Miranda smiles. "Uh, this is my sister, Bella. She's a sophomore here."

"Hi." Bella shakes Jess' hand.

"Hi." Jess smiles.

Bella offered to show the two around campus, even though Miranda already knows some of it from visiting Bella a few times and the campus tour she took last year.

"This is the cafeteria." Bella says, the three walking in, some students in line to get their lunches and others already eating.

Miranda slightly trails behind the other two while Jess asks Bella questions about the place and food recommendations.

Miranda collides into another body before feeling hot liquid pour down her chest.

"Oh, my God!" She exclaims.

"Oh, shit." A guy mutters. "I am so sorry."

"Ugh. What the fuck?" Miranda grumbles.

"So-sorry. Uh... he-here. Here." The guy grabs some napkins and holds them out to her.

"Shit. M, you okay?" Bella rushes over.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Miranda grumbles, dabbing at the coffee stains.

"I am so sorry." The guy apologizes, Miranda finally looking up at him, his hair falling into his face and he's a little taller than most.

"Yeah, well, next time look where you're going, maybe." Miranda remarks.

"Me?" The guy scoffs. "Your head was all the way down when I ran into you. You're the one not looking."

"Yeah, right." Miranda scoffs.

"Okay, okay, hey. No need to make enemies on the first day, right?" Bella interjects.

"Tell coffee boy that." Miranda frowns.

"Okay, I apologized. I'm sorry I spilled coffee on you. I'll go now." The guy says.

"Yeah, hope to never see you again." Miranda remarks as he walks away.

"It's not that bad. I'm sure it was an accident. Give the guy a break." Bella says.

"You get hot coffee poured on your boobs and see if you wanna give the person a break." Miranda says.

"Okay, okay. Fair point." Bella raises her hands in defense.

"He was kinda cute." Jess comments.

"Ugh." Miranda grimaces.

Jess and Miranda return to their dorm later, Bella going off since she had plans with her friends.

"Hey." They both turn to the brunette who walks out of the dorm across from them.

"Hi." Jess politely smiles.

"I'm Carmen. I live in this dorm." She informs, shaking Jess' hand.

"Jess." The blonde smiles.

"Miranda." She informs, shaking Carmen's hand.

"Hi. My roommate backed out of Stanford last minute so I have the room to myself. Just figured I'd introduce myself to the closest people." Carmen explains.

"Oh, okay. Nice to meet you." Jess kindly smiles at her.

"Yeah, you guys, too." Carmen smiles. "I'll see you guys around." She goes back into her dorm.

"She seems sweet." Jess quietly comments, the two going into their dorm room.

"Yeah, bet she won't spill coffee on ya either." Miranda mutters, Jess softly laughing in amusement.

Miranda is at the event that a couple of RAs put together for the freshmen to attend. She got a small bag of popcorn that they're giving out as one of the snacks.

Miranda is focused on the snack as she walks around. She grunts as she bumps into somebody whose laughter is cut short when they collide with her and a few pieces of popcorn fall out of the bag and to the floor.

"Shit. Sorry." Miranda apologizes before looking up. "Oh, it's just you."

"It's cool." The guy says. "See, that's how most sane people react when somebody makes a mistake."

"Well, good for those sane people." Miranda smiles making the guy chuckle.

"I, uh... I'm Sam." He holds his hand.

"I much prefer coffee boy." Miranda remarks.

"Right." Sam mumbles, taking his hand away. "And this is-- this is kind of the part where you tell me your name."

"I'm good, thanks." Miranda tells him. Sam's eyebrows furrow as he thinks back to their first interaction.

"Didn't one of the girls you were with earlier call you M?" He asks.

"...No." Miranda answers, Sam able to tell she's lying.

"Okay." He lets it go. "Well, uh, maybe I'll bump into you later." He says, starting to walk off. "Popcorn girl." He snickers. Miranda glares at him as he walks off.
