"Nice, Boot." Tim applauds, his disposable coffee cup in hand as he watches Lucy complete her paper work in record time. She sighs when she sees there are no remaining paper to be filled, rubbing her hands up her forehead and into her bun.
"Thank you, sir." Lucy kept her head low, slowly getting up to turn in the paperwork to Sergeant Grey.
Lucy knocked, politely waiting for her sergeant to welcome her into his office.
"Officer Chen!" He gleams, waving his arm, indication for her to close the door behind herself.
Lucy hands the man her papers, a brief conclusion of each of the folders as she brings her hands together to her front.
"Very nice job, Chen. You know, it may just because you've always been this way, but the cop you've created yourself to be in this past year, is the cop every other police officer should aspire to be," Grey praises, rising from his desk.
He gives a sigh as he walks over to her, placing a hand on her should, his other hanging at his side.
"Which is why... I hate to do this. You will no longer be a cop serving for the Mid Wilshire Station, I'm firing you." Wade spoke quietly, his eyes focused on Lucy as her expression changed.
Chen's mouth dropped slightly, her eyebrows wrinkling together and she taunted her head to the side slightly.
"I'm kidding, Chen!" Wade cackled, holding his hands to his stomach.
Lucy immediately gave a breath of relief, placing her hands at her hips.
"God, Sid, you scared me," Lucy laughed nervously, her smile bright as Grey crossed his arms.
"Though, seriously, every cop here should look up to you. Men and woman of over twenty years would drop out if they went through half the stuff you did in your rookie year, I'm proud of you." He commented, walking back to his desk.
Chen gave a quick, grateful smile.
"Thank you, so much, Sir." She thanked him once more, then exited his office closing the door behind her. She made her way back to the bull pen, her head once again hanging low as she sat across Bradford.
Timothy had his arms crossed, his eyebrows furrowed and his expression filled with confidence and curiosity.
"Boot, what took you so long," he huffed.
"Sorry, sir. Sergeant Grey wanted me to stay back a moment." Lucy apologized, her eyes busy on her hands in her lap.
Tim eyed his rookie, his curiosity soon turning into concern.
"You gonna be a problem today?" His tone was still tuff, the way he knew it would sound.
"No, sir," Lucy spoke, tucking a hair behind her ear.
Timothy eyed Lucy again, she was nervous. Her hands were in her lap, and her leg had been bouncing like crazy. She was exhaling through her mouth, every thirteen seconds.
Lucy turned on her chair, pulling out her phone from her front pocket. She placed her head into one hand, scrolling through her messages. There were chats from people she hadn't seen since she graduated the academy, all congratulating her. A few contained not so nice things, all from her mother and father. She rubbed at her forehead with her other hand, placing her phone on the table quickly, praying that her hand on her forehead would cure her problems.
Tim grabbed at her phone, fixating his eyes on the screen. He scrolled through the messages with Lucy's mother, and then her father. Another popped up as Lucy rose from her seat quickly, pacing after Tim. Bradford felt bad for Chen for a moment, reading all the negative things her parents had to say.
"Hey, beautiful, you down to get dinner tonight? My treat.." the message read. Tim rolled his eyes, jealousy fuming over him.
"Keep your personal life away when you're on the job, Boot." Tim grunted, giving her back the phone.
"You were the one who grabbed my phone. We aren't on duty, and nobody is here. The Sun is barely out." Lucy argued, snatching the phone from his hands. She looked at the screen, rolling her eyes when she read her newest message.
"I don't wanna hear it, Boot."
Boot this. Boot that. I'm about to kick my boot into his dumb, gorgeous face.
"No, no. You don't get to do that. Get mad because you see something you don't like on my phone. You grabbed it, and whatever you saw isn't my fault. Don't pretend you don't wanna hear it. You love arguing with me, getting up in my face because you know your of higher seniority."
Lucy scoffed, her chest heavy as she walked out of the now too small room. She paced to the locker room, looking for any other presence. Once she made sure it was empty, she opened her locker, then slammed it. She did this repeatedly, but eventually gave out, slamming it once more.
She tapped at her screen, messaging Anderson back.
To: Max Anderson
From: Lucy Chen
"I'd really like that, how does 8 sound?"She didn't really want to go to dinner with this man, but the thought of Tim angry at her seemed to boil something good in her, she was suddenly cocky.
Her phone dinged immediately, and she rolled her eyes replying to the message.
To: Lucy Chen
From: Max Anderson
"8's fine. Can't wait."Lucy ended up not replying, leaving Maxwell on read.
She walked out the locker room after a few over twenty minutes of sitting at the bench. Just as she left the room began to flood with women, all laughing as they began to change. She looked around once, then exited.
She found herself in the break room, making herself a cup of much needed coffee.
"Thanks," Lucy smiled as Jackson walked past her.
"Hey! You left so early I didn't hear you," he smiled back, his grin from ear to ear. He sat down at the small table, placing down his mug of coffee.
"Tim made me get up an hour before role call." Chen blinked, her eyelids heavy.
"And?" Jackson asked, taking a sip.
"And, Anderson texted me when Tim snatched my phone. He got pissed and told me I shouldn't be using my phone during work hours, and when I argued back he just barked in my face." Lucy rolled her eyes.
"Was it hot?" Jackson chuckled, taking another sip of his mug.
"Really? Was it hot?" Lucy cocked her head, raising a brow.
"Hey, you can't deny he's hot. He's like McSteamy, but hotter," Jackson waved his hands in the most stupid way possible.
"Look, only a few weeks left, and you won't be complaining about him any longer. Not in that way, at least." Jackson winked, giggling as he ran out of the break room, Lucy throwing a newspaper as he exited.
She smiled to herself, rolling her eyes. She reached for her phone, reading through some of her text messages.
She knows I won't quit, I don't know why she continues to try persuading me.
