Lucy woke up at 8AM the next day, her head thumping as she woke from her slumber. She yawned into her palms, heading for her bathroom.
A few tears trickled down her makeup-stained cheeks, images of Anderson revolving around her brain. Lucy furiously grabbed at her loofah, scrubbing the harsh plastic onto her now red skin. She pulled at her hair, covering her mouth to prevent Jackson of hearing her sobs. Sliding down the cold wall, she curled her body together, hugging her knees firmly. She mumbled to herself for a while, letting the hot water hit her hair as she tucked her head in between her legs.
Finally removing herself from the floor, she scrubbed at her skin a little longer, then eventually brought herself to exit the shower. She wrapped the blue towel around her body, trying her hardest to cover the large bruises and colorings that stained her stomach and thighs. She inhaled, then exhaled, then inhaled again, then exhaled again, letting her chest fall and rise.
She brought herself to the foggy mirror, swiping a hand at the moist glass. She flicked the faucet on, splashing cold water onto her face.
Continuing with her routine, she made way to her bedroom, picking out an outfit quickly. She had waisted enough time crying in the shower and couldn't risk being late for her first day back.
She decided on ripped, black jeans and a cropped, navy-blue tee. She wore her hair down, wavy and natural. She put on her booties and grabbed her bag, making way for the door.
On her way there, she thought of all the questions that would be asked. Who would question her? What questions would they ask her? Would they show her the video?
The image of Jackson or John punching some guy's face made her feel slightly better, and she gave a small chuckle at the thought, turning onto the next street. She searched the street, looking for a familiar truck. She glued her eyes to a truck, similar to Tim's, and frowned when she realized the man inside the vehicle wasn't Tim. Her eyes swelled, the thought of Tim watching the video making her eyes blur. We'll still be together; he won't leave once he sees it. Has he even seen it?
She finally arrived to the station, a few minutes to spare. She quickly locked her car, entering the building. The front desk staff keeping their eyes glued on her as she walked past the empty room. She tried giving a small wave, frantically passing through the awkward space.
Chen finally caught a glimpse of Grey, and dashed for his office, careful of wandering eyes. Grey rose from his office chair, opening his arms for an embrace. "Chen!" Grey smiled, rubbing at his bald head. He hugged her quickly, then stood beside his desk, leaning forward.
Lucy sat down, placing her bag at the leg of the comfortable seat. Wade closed the blinds of the windows and door, crossing his arms with a sincere expression.
"So, obviously if you don't want to speak to me you don't have to. We have multiple investigators who can work with you. This is number one on our list, Anderson won't get away with this." Grey shook his head.
Lucy shook her head, her hair moving slightly. "Sir, you asking me is fine," she waved her hands, eyes fluttering.
"Okay," he gave a heartfelt beam. "So, I'll go grab a few things, and we can meet back here in twenty minutes. Wade rubbed at the back of his neck.
"Sure, should I just stay here, or could I just stay in the break room.." Lucy suggested.
"Whatever you want. I'll be back soon," he smiled once more, leaving his office. Lucy followed after him, and the two separated a few seconds later. She made herself comfortable in the break room, pouring herself a mug of coffee. She grabbed her phone, swiping through ClipTok and Instagram, then sent a quick text message to Tim.
