Chapter 17

Tutoring Date With A Doctor

"The dog barks at its owner to ask for some love.

Baicha flirts with P'Newt to ask him to make love."

- Baicha's Quote -

I had already arrived home, but what P'Newt said was still replaying in my head.

Why did he say being a moon in the sky wasn't always good? It was incomprehensible for a person who had never gotten a chance to be in a higher position like me.

I kept thinking about it even while I was sleeping, eating and bathing. The only exception was when I was doing that private thing we males do alone because I could only think of P'Newt's handsome face.

Whatever. I just couldn't figure it out, so I stopped thinking about it. Baicha's brain cells were limited and needed to be used economically.

Plus, I had more things to be concerned about. My thoughts had been clinging to P'Newt so much that I almost forgot that I would be facing my midterm exam in two weeks.

'I wanna cry!'

My university was very serious about its academic reputation, so the exams were particularly difficult. Even a low-ranking faculty such as mine would still be given challenging papers.

And my university was quite different from other Thai universities. If we failed the midterm exam, it wouldn't be enough to pass the course even if we worked harder for the final exam. This university applied a quarterly system to grade us, as they hope to encourage the students to be hard-working all the time, not laid back during the first half semester and work hard during the final exam. If our midterm grade was bad, it would affect the GPA on the transcript. There was no way for us to make up for the difference using the final exam grade.

How would I survive this then?

In fact, the reason that makes a top university like QU so competitive wasn't just how difficult the exams were, but because of its percentile grading system. The top scorer would be treated like elite students. The top 1% among us would be given numerous privileges, including free or discount coupons for many restaurants, cafes, theatres or shops which were sponsors for our university. They would also gain VIP access to the university's cafe or library by just scanning the student ID card, which would be marked as 'top student' in the database, and the staff would give the priority of reserving seats or rooms to them.

On top of that, our university also had a special on-campus dormitory called 'QU Village', which was as luxurious as a 3 million baht apartment room. All single rooms consisted of a bedroom, en-suite bathroom, small kitchen and living room. The building also provided various facilities such as a reading room, computer lab, swimming pool and indoor gym. Sometimes QU Village would invite professors to open special lectures or seminar groups there.

The best part was...this QU Village was FREE! However, the worst part was...only the top 100 students on the ranking of our whole university would be allowed to live there.

P'Newt and P'Phoom were one of those luckiest students, and I was very envious of them.

Because the reward was more than being able to show off their grades printed on the transcript, each student would give it their all to reach the top 100 ranking to earn those attractive privileges. This caused our university grading system to be both difficult and competitive.
