Chapter 2

Weather Variability

"Unstable weather can be caused by many factors,

whether it's global warming, environmental destruction,

or... What? Isn't that how the quote goes?"

- Phoom -

My name is Phoom.

My parents were professors at a university. My father was in the Faculty of Pharmacy. He was a Ph.D. scholarship student and graduated from a top-ten university in the world. My father's research was widely recognized in many academic circles.

I admired my father a lot. The only drawback was that he was so brilliant that the students often didn't understand his lectures. My father was probably more suited to conversing with other professors, as they likely shared the same level of understanding and intellect. So, it was to no one's surprise when the university appointed him as the Vice President for International Affairs, so he didn't have to teach as much. Since then, I didn't meet my father often because he frequently traveled abroad for seminars and to liaise with other universities.

My mother also worked as a professor, but in the Faculty of Science. She had a Ph.D. as well, but she didn't teach at the same university as my father because she wasn't as brilliant as him. My mother studied while working and graduated from a university in Thailand. But interestingly, students liked her teaching a lot. Many said that she could explain things in a way that even those who were not that smart could easily understand.

As their only child, I inherited a mix of genes from both my parents. I wasn't a genius like my father, but I was fairly intelligent and could easily grasp scientific and logical concepts. My memorization might not have been as exceptional as Newt's, but at least I inherited my mother's diligence and many of her techniques. Luckily, most people could understand what I spoke more than they do my father, and for that, I must thank my mother.

As for my life? Well, it was nothing but studying, studying, and more studying. Not because my parents forced me, but because I enjoyed it. I loved learning new things, was interested in various theories, and was fascinated by natural phenomena and technology. I was always questioning the things around me, like how cars could run, why the sky had clouds, why the Earth had day and night, why this, how that, and what everything.

Science fascinated me. It answered every question and explained every aspect of nature rationally. As I delved deeper, I found everything in this world to be truly amazing... so amazing that as I learned, all I wanted to do was to learn even more. Thus, I firmly decided to focus on studying science.

From reading many books, I concluded that among the branches of science, there were two things that were incredibly wondrous and still not fully understood: the universe and the human body. I once consulted my father, and he told me that if I wanted to study astronomy or cosmology, I should go abroad, but if I was interested in anatomy, I should study medicine in Thailand.

I weighed the two options back and forth. Although I was curious and wanted to uncover all the answers about this world, I also wanted to use my knowledge to help others. Every time I watched the news, I saw many patients suffering from incurable diseases. I wanted to make a meaningful impact by helping others. If I learned more about the human body, I hoped I could contribute to extending people's lives.

For this reason, I decided to study medicine. In all honesty, given my level of knowledge and consistent top grades in school, getting into a prestigious medical university wasn't too difficult.
