The bell rang, signaling the start of P.E. Murasaki flinched slightly at the sound. She hadn't realized how tightly her fists had clenched until her nails pressed sharp crescents into her palms.
Too much attention. Too soon. Her entire body felt like it was under a spotlight, and all she wanted was to disappear.
She took her seat quietly, pulling in her limbs as if to shrink herself. The conversations around her were already shifting—students were grabbing their gym bags and chatting excitedly about combat drills. Someone approached.
"Yo, that was seriously amazing!" a bubbly voice said, breaking through her fog.
She looked up and saw the pink-skinned girl with yellow eyes — Ashido.
"I've never seen that pomeranian shut up so fast!"
"...Pomeranian?" Murasaki asked, blinking.
Ashido laughed. "Who else? Bakugou. Always barking and snarling. It's the hair, I swear."
Murasaki let out a quiet huff of air. Not quite a laugh, but close. "Fitting."
"Come on," Ashido said, hoisting her gym bag. "Locker room's this way."
Murasaki hesitated, then stood, trailing after her. Her legs moved automatically even as her thoughts swirled. She wasn't used to people starting conversations like this — like they didn't expect anything in return. They had barely walked ten steps when the voice came again, sharp and loud.
"Hey! Witch!"
She turned around instinctively — Bakugou was glaring at her from across the hall.
"You better not get in my way! I'll kill you!"
Murasaki raised an eyebrow. "Not a witch," she muttered, too tired to argue.
"Whatever! That's your name now!"
She didn't answer. Just turned and kept walking.
Ashido rolled her eyes beside her. "He's been like that since day one. You'll get used to it. Probably."
The hallway buzzed with chatter and movement as they reached the girls' locker room. Murasaki trailed behind slightly, eyeing the group of girls already inside. It was loud but... welcoming.
Ashido threw her bag down and leaned casually against a bench. "So hey — if it's not weird to ask — how'd you get admitted mid-year? That doesn't really happen at U.A."
Murasaki's body stiffened slightly. She kept her eyes focused on her locker, fingers fumbling with the zipper of her gym bag. "...It's complicated," she said finally, her voice lower. "Let's just say the school offered me... an opportunity."
