I woke up to the sound of people hovering over me, yelling "She's awake! She's awake! Hurry!" More people rushed over. Everything around me was soaked, including me. I was cold and didn't have any clothing on. A kind man helped me up. "Okay everyone! You can leave now! Don't act like you never saw a mutant before!" Wait a mutant? The only thing I remember about myself after waking up is my name. Everyone left then the man looked at me. "I'm Carl." He extended his hand. "I'm Sara. Sara Spring." I reached for his hand to shake it. I looked at him still confused. "Where am I?"

"I guess you lost your memories." Carl said. "I can help you regain them though." I looked at Carl as I asked, "Am I a mutant?" "Yes, and you will figure out your powers on your own as we travel to regain your memories" Carl responded.

Just then, I heard someone reload their weapon from a distance. "Look out!" I screamed to Carl, but he looked at me with a confused look. The man in the bushes yelled "I see the mutant! Fire!" Just then more men came from the bushes. I looked closer. They all had camouflage outfits on. Carl noticed them and yelled for us to flee. We ran for a while until we were cornered by the men.

At that moment I felt a strange aura inside me. I put my hands up in defense. "Stay back!" I yelled. Just then water began to burst out of my hands uncontrollably. It was almost like my arms were hoses or water guns. The water pressure wounded the men and knocked them out. Fear flashed upon my face as I stared at my hands. "Oh no! What have I done?!" Carl comforted me "This is completely normal." He said. "So, this is my power." I said. "One of many." Carl said. "You will have to wait and see." I became mesmerized at the abilities I had. Carl looked at me. "Let's go, I'll get you some clothes too." he said. I hesitated while he shuffled around his car that was nearby. He then found a towel and wrapped it around me. He also had a grey dress with white stripes in his hand for me to put on after I dried off. For some weird reason he looked familiar, almost like we knew each other already. He offered me a ride to get away from that place.

Carl and I found shelter in his house shared with a young girl. The girl gave Carl a hug saying, "Welcome home, dad." She then looked at me. "Well, who might this be?" I extended my hand "I'm Sara Spring." "I'm Crystal." Crystal shook my hand. "We finally brought her home. My niece!" Carl said with his arm around Crystal. Crystal and I stared at each other, then looked at Carl. "Wait what?!" we both exclaimed. Carl explained " Sara is your long-lost cousin. She disappeared ten years ago when you were five." Crystal hugged me as she said, "Welcome home." I smiled as I thanked her.

Carl took Crystal to another room and whispered something to her. I knew the conversation was not meant for me to hear, so I tried not to overhear it. But no matter how hard I tried, I heard every word perfectly, almost like my hearing is like no other.

"When I found her, she was soaking wet. She also has amnesia. I tried to contact her parents, but they are not responding. I have a feeling that they are still missing because this is not like my brother to not respond." I gasped at Carl's words. "Crystal can you please stay and protect your cousin, I can't lose her again."I tried to contain my words, but I couldn't. Before Crystal could answer I went into the kitchen where they were. "Hey Sara, dinner's almost ready. Do you want any yet?" Crystal asked. I frowned. "Where are my parents?" Carl gave me a sympathetic look as he hugged me. "Sorry that you heard all of that. I'm not quite sure where they could be." Crystal added "We need more information before we can start looking. We will start asking around in the morning."

Crystal paused as she looked at her food that she cooked for us. "Food's done." We all started to eat. As we ate, I looked at Carl. "Carl?" He looked at me. "Call me Uncle Carl if you'd like." We both smiled. "Okay... Uncle Carl. I was thinking about what you said earlier about learning about all my powers. Well... I think I have a special hearing ability. This could be why I heard the men with their weapons earlier today and how I heard you and Crystal mentioning something about my situation." Carl smiled again. "I'm glad you are figuring everything out okay. Around the time your generation was born, there was a radiating light above the sky. This was the consequence of people constantly treating the world poorly and the constant use of electronics. Since then, better technology was invented so that this couldn't happen again. Although many people still have trouble excepting this new race of mutants, it turned out to be a great gift that you and Crystal were born with. This gave you and Crystal powers. Some people were still scared which is why those men came after you and why we live in a quiet area." I was sad thinking about what my life will be like moving forward, having to hide. My parents had nothing to do with this making it right to find them. I don't even remember what they look like.

After we ate, we went to bed. Crystal showed me my room which is shared with her. We said goodnight as she fell asleep. I could not. I was overthinking everything I went through today until a tear came out of my eyes. One tear turned into a mental breakdown. I tried to be quiet, but I couldn't. It wasn't long until Crystal woke up and turned on the lamp. She walked over to my bed. "What's wrong Sara?" I let everything out. "Many people fear us! My parents are missing! As a matter of fact, I can't even remember what they look like! I don't even know myself!" I cried harder and Crystal reassured me. "My dad and I will always be here. I know you only met us today, but we are still family, and we are in this together Sara." I sniffled "Thank you Crystal". "Anytime. Now sweet dreams." Crystal smiled. I smiled back "Sweet dreams."

That's when my dream, or horrible nightmare started. Everyone was screaming. "There they are! Get the mutant!" The men shouted. I stood outside with two adult figures by me, one man one woman. I could only see the back of their bodies and they were tall and slim with brown hair like me. I just could not see their faces. The men came after us and the figures and I started to run. I soon lost sight of the figures and it started to hail forcefully, making me pass out....

I woke up screaming. Crystal woke up to check on me and Uncle Carl ran in our room. I continued to panic in distress when suddenly everything froze. Carl was stuck in a running position and Crystal was stuck holding her arm out to me. "Oh no! What have I done?!" I yelled out, but no one could hear me and remained frozen. I sat on my bed with my hands on my face and began to cry. I stopped myself as I realized that it is up to me to fix this. I started to breathe deeply and calm myself down. Then, by miracle, everything went back to normal. Uncle Carl continued his running pace and stopped in front of me, and Crystal put her hand on my shoulder. "What happened?" They both asked. "I... I had a nightmare, started screaming, and next thing I knew I froze time." "It's okay" Crystal reassured me. "I will take you outside to help with practicing your powers."

I went outside with Crystal. "So?" Crystal started. "What do you have so far?" I thought for a second. "I just froze time after having a bad dream and my hearing is better than normal people... almost like super hearing." "So, you can freeze time based on your emotions and you have super hearing. Sounds cool. I don't know why I thought you had more than that you just discovered you had powers yesterday. Well, you just need to try to control your emotions better and so there is really nothing I can help you with. You'll get it someday." Crystal motioned with her hands for me to come inside with her. I started walking until I remembered. I stopped as I said "Wait... How about this?" I held my hands out and water spurred everywhere. I laughed nervously. "It's still kinda bad. I'm not good at this." Crystal was patient with me as she asked me to aim at a tree in her backyard and focus. I aimed at the tree and focused. A tiny bit of water sprinkled at first. It took about a half hour before enough water came out to strike the tree. Very good Sara, now knock the tree down." I hesitated at Crystal's words until I realized that Crystal would not steer me in the wrong direction. I looked at the tree again and closed my eyes. After an hour of striking the tree, it fell over. Crystal cheered for me and aimed her hands at the tree. Before I could ask what, she was doing, a glowing beam of light shined and the tree was fixed, standing upright again. I guess she has the power of healing.

"Okay, are you girls ready to go?" Uncle Carl said from inside. "Yes!" Crystal and I said. Uncle Carl walked outside to get in his car. "Let's go!" He said. We all got in the car and he started driving.
