"Now, we understand if this is a lot to ask of you, L/N, but we really have no other choice but to appoint your support. We're not sure if you're aware, but Ajax has told us there is only one person who could possibly kill him, and that's you. Only you have the power to assassinate him."
You breathed, in and out, but realised that your lungs' capacity had significantly lowered.
"Why me...?"
"We come from the same family of superhumanity, Auri." Ajax explained. "I possess the power to manipulate the tides, and you, the flames. It's okay, not even I knew I had it beforehand. It was a matter of discovery."
You ooked down at your hands, your open palms.
"N- No. You have the wrong person." You protested. "Hah, there's no way. I'm just a girl tryna pass school. You don't understand. I'm a nobody. I-"
Ajax touched your wrist with his bare fingers, only to take them away instantly. You also doubled back. The pain seared through your body, and you scrunched your eyes tight.
"It seems as though it is quite the opposite matter." the Minister said. "We've been looking for you for a while, and we really are sorry to have to ask this of you, on your last year of high school, as well. But if we had any other options..."
You took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry, but I-" you began.
"There'll be ten million dollars in compensation."
"I'll do it. I'll kill him."
Everyone stopped.
"Hey! That was way too fast!" Ajax exclaimed. "Come on now..."
You gave him a side eye and settled back into your seat, smirking.
Ten million dollars could get you an island. You could live out the rest of your blissful days there, away from society, and eat coconuts every day.
Ten million dollars could make your dreams come true.
You raised your head at the men in suits, crossing your legs.
"I'll do it." You repeated. "I'm serious. I want those ten million."
"I see..." Principal Allen drawled, also a bit taken aback by your sudden change of heart, however shallow.
Hey, I mean, I'm doing the world a favour, aren't I? you thought
"Also, why are we blatantly talking about his assassination plan when he's in the room?"
You jabbed a thumb at Ajax.
"Ask him." the Minister sighed. "Surprisingly, he's trying to help us kill him. It's a little strange."
"I'm the one who mentioned we should look for you." Ajax said.
You looked at the ginger boy, fascinated by the face of his clock, as if he wasn't being discussed on incredulous terms.
This kid?
"Alright." You sighed out.
"Okay. I'll do my best, sir." you affirmed.
"Then we are done here. We will require your phone number for further contact."
After you wrote it on a piece of paper and handed it to him, you stood up. You sensed Ajax follow my movements with his eyes.
"There's one more thing, L/N. You will be taking assassination lessons every Tuesday after school with one of our top assassins. All of this is confidential, and you do not tell anyone of what is happening here, not a soul, not even your parents."
