"Ahhh!!." Kieran screamed in frustration scattering all the lettes and documents on her desk in her chambers, she had just been to a meeting with the king, her four advisors, council men, captains and commanders of war. These meetings have been happening every day since the king addressed the nation regarding the dragon race. They are back, more powerful than before, smarter ,more aggressive. It was like they had an entire rewrite of their purpose.
The advisor has been writing letters for two hole weeks. These letters were addressed to the ministers responsible for the smaller territories they govern . The recruitment will be done from the outer territory where it was harsher. People will be easily bribed and will be stronger soldiers given a noble purpose to fight. The ones closer and the already trained ones will defend the capital city. With this strategy, we will only lose people who are considered none beneficial to society. Kieran was ashamed when she drafted this plan ashamed that she was going to be sending good people to die , mothers, fathers.
"May the great mother forgive me." Kieran sighed
even at this moment, letters are still being sent to the nation that was once nothing.
Silence.....
They have remained silent, and spies are not being sent anymore, the reason being that they never come back. Kieran had managed to work on the samples she took from the prisoner before they exploded. This was what made her and everyone in that meeting frustrated. The gift reacts differently to the cells of the low-level dragon kins. It was not something she could explain. Kieran knows that her gift is of the purest the kingdom has ever seen since the elves. Elves, the ones currently trying to regain themselves, agreed to this. But the cells from these new kinds of dragon kins. It was beyond that. It was as if it was one with the gift and nothing else, simply magic.
How can someone connect to the very thing you draw your power from be defeated. Kieran wasn't referring to the lower level dragon kins that could force objects to move and explode themselves. It was the white dragon kin that stole her prisoner. She looked like she was a high ranked dragon kin she was able to use a spell that was considered lost. Someone who would be considered nobility within their ranks is what she looked like. Kieran gritted her teeth and stared at nothing in particular.
"Damned snake," she growled, gritting her teeth.
A knock at her chamber door brought her back from the pit of anger. "My Lady? Are you in here. Why is it so dark?"
"Yes, margi, I am here." A whispered word and the room was lit with various crystals. Margi came in with dinner for the advisor. She came and stood before the desk that Kieran now sat behind documents still scattered everywhere.
"You must not stress yourself this much it is no good. You remind me so much of my mate. So stubborn. " The woman puffed while taking up the various documents. This made Kieran chuckle and helped her pick up the remaining documents.
"What would I do without margi?". The advisor stated
"Starve, that's one thing." The woman answered, still puffing about. Kieran laughed out right this time. Margi stopped and looked at her lady laughing and couldn't help but laugh with her. Both women sat on the floor like common ladies, giggled an ate away at the evening.

Kia was sitting before his father shoulders broad. The man hardly spoke to him, rarely spoke at all really. Color him surprised to be invited to share dinner with him.
"Their are some things we need to discuss before this war breaks out, Kia. You are next in line to be first in command, I who took over from my father and he did for his , you will do for me. The one condition is finding a mate. You're a demi human. We are not like the kins you interact with on a daily basis. You are strong now , even on par with me, and you have yet to be mated . You are bound to surpass me. when I first bonded to your mother. I never expected that you would turn out the way you did, i didn't believe that , you would only take on my gene" That was the first time he saw the man smile since his mother passed.
Kia's eyebrows met his hairline. "What do you mean, father? I thought mom was like you, demi human, and you guys grew up together. That's what you told me. A bit of anger seeped out of the boy.
"What are you hiding this time? Ever since mom died, you have been like this. Stubborn like the kin of a boar!"
"Enough!" The first in command shouted to his son. The man looked even more tired than the first meeting they had about discovering the city.
"I know , I have been distant. But I lost your mother too. She was my mate. " He whispered the last part.
"A village, north west from here called, helms. Is where I met your mother , there were talks about an uprising of diggers that were stealing gold from the kingdom. I went personally to investigate. It was a lie. The noble man for the village was the culprit and was blaming it on the kins he oversaw. The diggers were more human than most kins. They were tall men and women like your mother . She was the embassador at the time and the one that was used to communicate with back and forth with the people. She was the only one blessed by the gift. The only one that understood us."
"Come on , you expect me to believe my mother was a digger. They see through darkness, they are as strong as bull kins, I am a demi human. I am no halfling. Kia was breathing heavily. Thinking about the times his mother was suddenly ill. How she would disappear for a few days and come back . He had flashbacks, and her eyes were different colors.
"Please follow me," the commander said.
His father led him to the underground system of their villa. He has never been here before to this level, at least . There were two more levels beneath. What Kia saw shook him to his core. A family of three , walking in a tunnel pass where they stood. Diggers.
The little girl ran over to his father and hugged his knees a tail. Big eyes nails too Sharpe to be considered nails . Though the child was beautiful, you could tell they were of kinship.
"What is this?" Kia whispered and backed up from his father.
"Your mother helped me win many civil wars, Kia . Your mother was a commander just like me , for intelligence...... These tunnels were used to save all kins you see now in our regions. "
He went to the far right where a crystal was palm sized attached to the wall. He placed his hand on it, and the tunnel in front of then became a mirror.
Kia was staring at himself, but it wasn't his regular reflection. Kia had a black tail, and his nails were like claws. Those were the only distinct features of the diggers he had.
"Stop it!!" . He turned around from the mirror and held himself.
"This is who you really are. It is not forbidden, but the king demanded that I cover this up to keep my family safe. That special tea you always drink. It is a suppressor. I have noticed changes in you . I know you have noticed it, too. I have seen you itching at that lump , your lower back.
Kia bit his bottom lip.
"The aggression, being able to smell things a mile away, sharper intuition. All gifts from your mother, your 26th name day is fast approaching. You will have to visit the village, if you don't you will be forced in a rut. You could die . You will go through a ritual to awaken yourself and find your mate. This mirror is soul reflection. That's you, Kia, my son.
"A-,Am so sorry." Kia perked up when he heard his father's voice crack.
Looking to his father, he sighed.
"When do I leave?"
