SHELBY

The following day, he avoided any contact with me and didn't utter a word. Initially, I felt annoyed, but I couldn't help finding the situation rather amusing.

Why is he avoiding me?

Honestly, it's not a big deal to me, so I decided to play it cool, pretending as if nothing happened. Meanwhile, he secluded himself in his office, like he was trying to stay safe from Covid or something.

As I finished my work and prepared to leave, I stole a quick glance down the hallway toward his office. I observed him pacing around, engrossed in a phone conversation. He picked up and flipped through files, completely absorbed in his work.

For someone who's trying to avoid others, he certainly knows how to keep himself occupied.

Tonight is the night we'll be meeting Mr. Nakamura, so his avoidance won't last long.

Grabbing my handbag and trench coat, I left the office to head home.

OoO

The dinner with Mr. Nakamura is taking place at Starlight Restaurant, one of the city's finest five-star establishments renowned for its exquisite cuisine.

I arrived at the restaurant on time, and the valet took care of parking my car while I made my way inside.

Choosing a red dress with a sweetheart neckline and delicate, low-hanging straps that draped over my arms, I put on a matching pair of red stilettos. I styled my hair in a loose braid cascading down my neck, leaving a few strands out to frame my face.

Entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a smiling staff member near the entrance.

"Hello, welcome to Starlight. Do you have a reservation?" she politely inquired.

"I'm actually here to meet someone. I believe they already made reservations."

"Oh, I see. What is their name?"

"Yoshi Nakamura." She quickly checked her work tablet, then smiled back at me.

"Yes, Mr. Nakamura's dinner reservations are in one of our VIP rooms. Let me show you the way."

I followed closely as she led the way. However, as we reached the bar area, I was surprised to find William sitting there, enjoying a drink alone.

What the hell? I thought he was already meeting Mr. Nakamura.

"Um, I'll find my own way. Thank you," I quickly informed the staff member. She looked at me with a confused expression before nodding and returning to her post.

Approaching William, I leaned against the counter, facing him. He looked surprised at first, but his gaze soon lowered to my dress before meeting my eyes again.

"Um, hi."

"Hi yourself," he casually replied, taking a sip of his drink.

"Aren't you supposed to be with Mr. Nakamura already?"

He clicked his tongue, twirling the glass in his hand.

"I was waiting for you to arrive first."

"Aww, how sweet," I sarcastically cooed, and he shot me a glare from the corner of his eye.

"Well, I'm here now, so let's get this over with."

He didn't say anything else, standing up from the barstool. I led the way, even though I had no idea which VIP room Mr. Nakamura could be in.
