SHELBY

Sleep eluded me, as the vast emptiness of the unfamiliar house sent shivers down my spine. Adjusting to this new place would take time; it always does whenever I move. Surprisingly, William had taken my request seriously, leaving me undisturbed for the past five hours. The silence in the mansion made me wonder if he had already left.

However, doubts lingered in my mind; this mansion was immense, yet only two of us lived there. Could he truly leave me alone in this empty house?

Yes, he probably would. Jerks like him don't care.

A low rumble in my stomach reminded me that I hadn't eaten anything since breakfast. My mind had been preoccupied, and I had forgotten about food. Wrapped in my night robe, I decided to search for the kitchen.

The house was eerily well-lit, but I relished the idea of avoiding William. His presence annoyed me to no end.

Locating the kitchen, my eyes lit up at the sight of the refrigerator. My excitement soon turned to disappointment, finding only bottles of mineral water inside.

"Seriously?" I muttered irritably.

Unexpectedly, a familiar voice spoke from behind me, nearly giving me a heart attack.

"Are you finally hungry now?" William asked nonchalantly, spooning ice cream.

"What the hell!" I exclaimed.

He waved casually before continuing to enjoy his ice cream.

"Why are you sitting here alone in the dark like a creep?" I questioned, frustrated.

"Can't a man have some alone time with his Ben & Jerry?" he replied with a shrug.

"You're so weird," I sighed, still annoyed.

"What are you even doing at this hour? I thought you said you weren't hungry," He added, narrowing his eyes.

"That was five hours ago," I replied.

"Well, sorry to disappoint you, but there's no food in the fridge or anywhere else. The kitchen staff will do the grocery shopping tomorrow," he informed.

Scoffing, I folded my arms, catching him staring at my nightgown for longer than necessary.

It dawned on me that he was dressed up and ready to leave.

He really would leave me alone here. What an asshole.

Not that I needed him around! This house was new to me, and being here alone felt strange.

"You should've hired the house staff today after buying the house. They would've been here already preparing dinner or something, and this house feels creepy without anyone else here," I suggested.

He sighed and approached me.

"Will you relax? They'll be here tomorrow, not the day after that or next week."

I glared at him, still annoyed by his lack of consideration.

"Look, I'm about to head out and meet some friends at the bar, and you're right, okay? I should've hired a housekeeper at least, to help you settle in."

While I tried to hide my satisfaction at hearing him admit he was wrong, he continued,

"Go upstairs, put on some clothes, and meet me outside in a few minutes."

Confused, I immediately asked why.

"You're hungry, aren't you? We'll go get you some food. I'll drop you back here, and then I'll head out for the night."
