"I EXPECT EVERY single cauldron to be sparkling when i come back," slughorn smiled, "oh, and please don't mess with my desk."

the potions professor didn't wait for a response; he simply walked out of the room, his little hat bobbing with him.

"sometimes i feel like he smiles too much, like to compensate for something," gracie said absentmindedly, forgetting who she was with.

"i don't care what our positions professor does," regulus sneered.

"right," she sighed, "i'll take this half of the room and you can take that half?"

regulus nodded and began working on his half.

the two worked in silence until they both finished all of their cauldrons.

"are we meant to do something else?" regulus asked. "because he only said to do the cauldrons and we've still got quite a but of time left here."

"i dunno," she shrugged, "i would do homework, but he took away our bags."

he nodded and took the opportunity to look at gracie whilst she wasn't paying attention

"you've got a but of stuff on your face, just right here," he showed her on her own face.

gracie flushed and wiped her face, "oh, thanks."

he shook his head and showed her again, "here."

she wiped again, "is it gone now?"

the black sighed and surprised both of them when he moved forward to take it off himself.

gracie's breath caught in her throat at the proximity. the way his eyes were locked on hers. the feeling of his skin. they way he smelled.

he smelled so good. like a nice winter's day. cool. but also smokey. so very wonderful.

"all good," he whispered, making no move to back up again.

"thanks," she breathed.

regulus opened his mouth to say something, but slughorn chose that very moment to come back into the room.

their professor remained oblivious to the awkward tension between two of his best students, "you two are so good at everything, i reckon i should've given you detention sooner so my cauldrons would look this nice."

regulus gave a tight smile, "we aim to please, professor."

"always, always," slughorn walked back over to his desk, "you two are free to leave once i finish organizing these papers."

they nodded, still stuck standing awkwardly next to each other.

"regulus, my boy, how is quidditch going?"

"very well, sir. we should win the cup if we continue to preform the same."

"excellent! i'm quite eager to keep up the winning," he smiled.

"right," he straightened, "your bags are just right outside the room, you're free to-"

the poor man didn't even get to finish his goodbyes before they both bolted out the room.
