GRACIE LOOKED UP at the sound of books landing on her study table. regulus stood rather awkwardly across from her.
"can i help you?" she tilted her head.
"can i sit with you?" he asked.
gracie furrowed her brows, "i don't suppose i could stop you even if i wanted to."
if she wanted to. she did not.
"right," he cleaned his throat then sat, "are you going to the game tomorrow?"
she looked at him oddly before returning to her work, "of course i am, evan and barty asked me to."
"i'll be playing as well." regulus pointed out.
"i know—you play every game."
"right. i suppose that makes sense."
"are you alright?" gracie asked. "you don't usually talk this much. or at all."
"i just figured that if our friends are friends then we should be as well. or at the very least not hate each other."
"i don't hate you." she surprised him. "i just don't like how you think you're better than others."
"i do not." he gasped.
"you act like it. with you whole pure, impeccable breeding spiel." she mocked his voice. "that and the whole completely-dropping-me-as-a-friend-when-you-found-out-i-was-a-muggleborn thing."
he gaped at her.
"well that was a long time ago, and i wish to be friendly now."
"you want to be friends?" she stared at him.
"friendly." he repeated.
a small smile grew on her face, "i can do that."

"you know, the weirdest thing happened earlier," gracie told annabelle as she entered her dorm.
"what?"
"regulus black sat with me in the library and said he wanted to be friendly."
"i told him that i didn't like how he acted like he was better than everyone, but i could be friendly for our friends."
"this is so interesting," annabelle laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling. "do you think he likes you?"
"of course-" gracie was interrupted by a scratching sound on the door, which she opened. "milo!"
"that cat is obsessed with you," annabelle shook her head as she watched the cat crawl into her friend's lap.
gracie pet him, "i love him so much."
"back to the topic at hand," annabelle sat up, "he has to like you."
"he does not."
"he does too. why else would he come sit with you today?"
"you're delusional," gracie rolled her eyes, "isn't she crazy, milo?"
the cat meowed, continuing to kneed the blanket below him.
"i want to know what goes on in his head," annabelle narrowed her eyes at the cat, "like he's so weird."
"don't call him weird!" gracie gasped pulling the cat into her chest, where he purred and nuzzled her neck, "milo is wonderful and very intuitive."
"he hates sirius for no reason."
"maybe he can tell that he is a dog," gracie reasoned, "and sirius always makes fun of him."
"you're just as weird as your cat."
