Jaehaera Targaryen (17 years old.)
Visenya was happy her brother was doing better, for a few days they all thought he was going to die. He had finally woken up a couple of days ago and now was trying to kill himself once more. She had walked past his chambers last night and heard her mother threatening to tie him to the bed if he did not do exactly as the healers tell him. Visenya could not help but smile, her mother was more than capable of doing it too. Especially because she had been under a lot of pressure lately, her grandsire's health had taken a decline once more, he had not left his chambers in a sennight. Visenya knocked on the door before opening it. If this had been a moon ago she would have been shocked to see Jaehaera in Rhaegon's chambers, but her friend had spent more time here than anywhere else for the past three weeks. "You are looking well." She kissed her brother's cheek and then sat on the opposite side of the bed, facing Jaehaera. "But it does not matter how you are looking, how are you actually feeling?" "I feel a bit better, still in some pain." Rhaegon smiled at Jaehaera and Visenya noticed the way her friend blushed. "But I have a beautiful princess that has been keeping me company. She is a very good storyteller." "I know." Visenya smiled at her friend. "She used to read to me in the Godswood before you stole her away." "He did not steal me away." Jaehaera laughed. "I am not your favorite dress." "Oh, you mean the one he stole when I was ten and used it to dress up one of the training dummies?" Rhaegon laughed, then moaned, holding onto his side. Visenya gave Jaehaera a playful angry look. "I just want to remind you that you used to be my friend first." "I am still your friend." Jaehaera rolled her eyes, which actually made Visenya happy. Jaehaera barely spoke more than three words when there was more than one person present, hearing her talking so much was pleasant. "But you are healthy and can go anywhere you please. Your brother is not supposed to get out of bed and every time I leave him alone he tries to leave." "I am aware. I heard my mother yelling at him last night. I believe some threats were made." Both of them laughed. "I want to remind both of you that I am still here." Visenya and Jaehaera looked at each other, rolling their eyes. Rhaegon groaned. "Why don't you go and take a walk in the gardens?" "That is not a bad idea. I was not aware you had those." She jumped off the bed before he could try to hit her. "Let us go Jaehaera, I actually came to get you anyways." "Oh, well I am so happy to inform you I am feeling much better." Rhaegon rolled his eyes, and Visenya took Jaehaera's hand, dragging her to the door. "And here I thought your concern was for me." "I would be concerned for you, but I have not forgiven you for my dress." She stuck her tongue out of him, walking out of the door. Visenya had missed Jaehaera, her friend had been taking care of her brother since he got back from the war. Visenya had not seen her much since then and she had missed her cousin. Visenya had grown up with her cousins, and she had always been close to Jaehaera. The two girls were similar in character, Visenya was a bit more outgoing, but not by much. Visenya loved her siblings, but they had their duties and were always busy. Deirys had left when she was thirteen and had been gone for four years. Visenya knew Deirys was fighting for their family, and that she had suffered being away from them for all those years. But now she was happy, she had married the man she loved and she had four wonderful children. But there was something wrong, Visenya could see it, even if other people could not. Deirys was keeping something from them and it was taking a toll on her, even if she did not realize it yet. "You look worried." Jaehaera gave her a concerned look. "You have been looking worried for the past few weeks, but I know that was because of Rhaegon's condition, but now we all know that he is going to be fine. So, what is on your mind?" "Nothing." Visenya smiled at her. "I have just missed you. I have no one to make me flower crowns any longer, and we have not exchanged books in a while." "I am aware." Jaehaera gave her an apologetic look. "I have neglected you this past moon. I will make it up to you, I promise." "I am not upset, you have been busy taking care of my brother." She patted Jaehaera's hand. "I cannot thank you enough for that, I am just feeling nostalgic." There was also the fact that she had not been able to spend a lot of time with Xanner since he returned. He was now a part of the gold cloaks and had been busy with his new duties. Her father had also insisted that she spent time with some of the lords. Visenya was sure that he had noticed the only lord she had spent time with was Xanner. She was not sure if her father hated the idea of her marrying Xanner or if it was just that he had someone else in mind. ************************************************ Visenya turned the page and smiled. Her sister had commissioned an illustrated book from Essos, for her. It was supposed to be her name-day present, but there had been a delay, and it had only arrived a few days before. But then they had been worried about Rhaegon, so Deirys had given her the book this morning. Jaehaera was with Rhaegon once more, which meant she was alone in the Godswood, but she could not wait to show the book to her friend. Jaehaera would love it. "Princess." Visenya jumped and looked up in surprise. Xanner smiled at her, she could not help but smile back. "Somehow I knew you would be here." "Well, I am almost always here, so I do not believe you had to try very hard." Xanner sat next to her. "Is it a good book?" "Yes, it is actually a wonderful book." Visenya showed him one of the pages. "Deirys had it made for me. Is an illustrated book about the history of my family before the Doom." "Wow, your sister does not hold back when gifting things." "No, she does not." Visenya's smile was nervous, now she was not sure what she was supposed to say. "I forgot to congratulate you on your new position." "Thank you." Xanner ran a hand over her curls. "The only drawback is that we have not been able to spend much time together. I am sorry, my plans to court you had a terrible start. We had barely gotten permission to court when I had to leave, and then I return and was given a new position and have not been able to see you." "It is not your fault." She covered one of his hands, giving it a gentle squeeze. "I understand you have duties, just like I have." "How about we spend some time together tomorrow?" His face moved closer to hers. "We could go for a walk in the gardens, or go riding." "I did not know you wanted to go dragon riding with me." "Oh, I do not." He laughed, their faces were almost touching, and she could feel his breath on her lips. "I meant horse riding." "You do not like Tessarion?" "I know I am supposed to be a strong and courageous knight, but your dragon terrifies me, princess." "Well, she is very sweet." Visenya laughed at Xanner's doubtful expression. "What? She is nothing like Vermithor, Caraxes, or Aegarax." Visenya was getting more and more nervous. She did not know what to say so she just stayed quiet, apparently that was what Xanner had been waiting for because he was kissing her in the next instant. Xanner had kissed her once before and it had been breathtaking. This kiss was a bit different, it was more gentle, like he was afraid to hurt her. Visenya opened her mouth, but before the kiss could progress she heard someone clear their throat. They broke apart and Visenya's face reddened when she saw her Kingsguard standing close by, he had an amused look on his face. "Princess." The knight bowed. "Ser Rodner." She stood up, dusting her gown. "How may I assist you?" "It is getting dark princess, I believe we should return." "Of course." Visenya turned to Xanner, smiling softly at him. "We will meet tomorrow, after the morning meal, if that is acceptable." "I will see you then princess." Xanner kissed her hand. "I hope you have a pleasant night." Xanner handed her a red rose before bowing and walking away. Visenya smiled all the way to her chambers, she could not wait until tomorrow.
