Once Meraxes landed Rhaegon helped her off the dragon before leading her towards the large castle. Jaehaera had only been in Dragonstone once before when she was a small girl, the castle looked more imposing in the dark. The knights gave them a surprised look when they walked past them but did not stop them from entering. Rhaegon lead her to the chambers of the painted table before finally letting go of her arm. She saw him talk to one of the guards for a few minutes before the man nodded and left with a bow. When Rhaegon turned around she was glaring at him.
"Do you have any idea what you have done?" Rhaegon just cocked his head and smiled at her. "You have ruined any chances I had to marry your brother."
"Yes, that is a tragedy, however would you keep going?" His sarcastic tone angered her, and without thinking she picked up one of the wooden figurines that were used for the map and threw it at him, hitting him in the chest and smiling when he yelped. "Stop that."
"Oh, I do not think so. You are such an arrogant ass, I cannot believe you did this. After everything you have put me through."
"I apologized for that. I was an ass and I am sorry." She threw another figurine at him, but he was able to move out of the way. "You need to listen."
"I do not need to do anything." A small wooden ship flew past his head. "You dragged me from my chambers in the middle of the night."
"That is not true. I carried you out, I would never drag you."
"Yes, because that makes it so much better." This time it was a wooden stag that almost clocked him in the nose. "You carried me out like a sack of potatoes."
"You would not listen to me." Jaehaera glared at him and he held his arms up when she picked up a wooden wolf. "I know I made several mistakes and I am so sorry for hurting you and for being so stupid. But you need to give me the chance to at least apologize."
"Why should I? You had more than enough time and you decided to spend it with whores."
"I did not." He sounded so indignant that she paused for a moment. Rhaegon sighed and shook his head. "I did go to the pleasure houses, but it was just to drink. I have not been with another woman since you."
"You are a liar."
"Jaehaera, please. I just want you to listen." He looked at the figurine in her hand. "I will let you kick me afterward if you wish, but give me a chance to explain myself. Please."
"Very well." She place the figurine on the table and looked wearily as he moved closer to her. "Go ahead."
"I have always seen you the same as one of my sisters. You were always there. I knew that you had feelings for me, but my father made it very clear that if I dared to try anything with you it would mean marriage. While my mother and father decided not to marry any of us for political alliances, I was aware that if I dishonored any of the court ladies I would have to wed her." He gave her a small smile. "When I woke up after I was injured, the first thing I remember is hearing a voice. It sounded so sweet I remember thinking any man would come back from death if it meant hearing that voice again. When I realized it was your voice I was a bit surprised, you barely spoke in my presence before, so I did not have much chance to hear it. That was the first time I was forced to admit you were not a little girl any longer. During the moons you took care of me I started noticing other things."
"Other things?" Jaehaera frowned.
"Yes, I noticed how you prefer fruit tarts over cake, that you look down when you tell a lie. You prefer your hair down and to wear light gowns, instead of the more intricate ones. You like to walk in the gardens and your favorite spot there is the corner where all the dragon breath flowers have been planted. You are more mischievous than you seem and make a lot of gestures with your hands when you talk about something that excites you." He was in front of her now, their bodies a few inches apart. Rhaegon caressed her face and run a finger over her bottom lip. "You bite your lip when you are flustered. I noticed you are scared of the fire inside you, that is why you never let people see how passionate you are. I noticed how your breath hitches when I caress your neck, and your body trembles when I am this close."
"Rhaegon." He was right, their bodies were touching and she was trembling. Jaehaera met his eyes. "Do not, this will..."
"I noticed you like it best when I kiss your neck, and your purr like a kitten when I run my fingertips down your back." He kissed the corner of her mouth, his fingertips traveling down her throat. "I noticed how dark the days seem when you do not gift me with a smile, and how I long for your sweet scent. I noticed I hate when other men look at you and I wanted to kill my own brother when he said your kisses can drive a man to madness. Because I know they can."
His mouth took her and she whimpered into the kiss, his other kisses had been fast and powerful, full of want. This kiss was slow, deep, and decadent, filled with passion. It felt like he was attempting to absolve her into his body, his mouth coaxing hers to open and his tongue twisted against hers, her fingers twisted the front go his riding leathers. Her body heated up until she could think of nothing else, but him. Both his hands held her face while he sucked her bottom lip making her whimper, and she felt heat pooling in her belly. Her body preparing itself for him, for the pleasure it know he could give her.
"I was an idiot to run away from you and a coward. I will make penance for as long as you want, and I will spend the rest of our lives apologizing. The right thing to do would be to let you wed my brother, he is a much better man than me, but I cannot, I will not let anyone else have you. Because the most important thing that I have noticed is that I love you and I do not want to spend my days without you." Jaehaera sucked in a breath, and her eyes widened. She had never imagined he would confess he loved her. "I will be the only one to wed you and I will try my hardest to make up for the way I hurt you for the rest of our lives. I will give you whatever you desire. Please say yes."
Her heart was beating so hard it was actually loud against her ears, she was drowning in his gaze. All Jaehaera had ever wanted was Rhaegon, not power, no coins, no dragons, just him. She never thought he would want her back, but she could see the sincerity in his gaze. She would never love anyone the way she loved him, and marrying him would make her happy. Jaehaera always did things for the happiness of others, so her family could be well. For once she wanted something for herself, something that made her happy, even if others were against it. She did not want to think about others at this time, because if she did she would find a thousand reasons why this was a bad idea, starting his Baelon. Her cousin, who had sacrificed himself so she would not be shamed, who made her laugh when she was sad, but she did not love him that way and he did not love her either. She could finally be happy, other things would work out in time.
"Yes." His smile was brighter than any sun and she returned it. "I will marry you."
Rhaegon laughed, picking her up and spinning her around the room until she begged him to stop. He put her down, kissing her, but before things could get too heated there was a knock on the door. The knight Rhaegon had spoken to walked in and bowed to both of them.
"My prince, everything is ready." He looked between both of them. "The maester is waiting in the sept."
"Thank you. We will be there in a moment."
The knight bowed once more before walking out. Jaehaera looked at Rhaegon, frowning.
"The maester? But you do not follow the seven."
"I do not, but you do." Rhaegon gave her a smile. "It does not matter what gods we follow, I want you to be my wife in whatever way I can have you. I know you have always dreamed of marrying in the Great Sept and after tonight I will make sure we have another ceremony in Kings Landing, with all our family and friends."
Jaehaera smiled, she liked that he knew how she wanted the ceremony to be and that he did not attempt to impose his beliefs on her. Rhaegon lead her to the door before Jaehaera stopped.
"Oh, I forgot something." Jaehaera drew back her foot and kicked Rhaegon's shin hard, causing him to yelp. Her husband-to-be glared at her and she gave him a sweet smile. "You said after we talked I could kick you if I wished. You still owe me for what happened. Now let us go, the maester is waiting for us."
Jaehaera walked out of the chambers, leaving her future husband to look after her and gaping like a fish. This would be a good start to their lives together.
