Part 46

Authors note:

I am really trying to work with correct dates and the cannon timeline and everything here, but it's really hard, I am so sorry if things don't add up and aren't like you remember, I went into this story without making notes, expecting no one would read it, but I was very wrong, so sorry about that!

"I don't know what to say." Diana said as she just stared at him with tears in her eyes. "You came back to me." Her voice broke and before she knew it she crashed into him and wrapped her arms around him while sobbing.

"I've been waiting for this for the past few years." Regulus whispered to her and she could hear in his voice that he was crying. "I'm so sorry." He said to her and she hugged him tighter.

They stood there for what felt like forever and she was the first to pull away. "Reg, Pippa, she-" but he shook his head and cut her off. "It's fine, Diana, I was gone for so long, I would never expect you to do nothing." He reassured her.

"What are you on about?" She narrowed her eyes. "I'm just saying that's it's fine." He laid his hands on her shoulders. "Wait no- Reg you don't understand- Pippa, she is your daughter." Diana said and he took a step back before a huge smile grew on his face.

"I have a daughter- we have a daughter!" He grabbed her waist, twisted her around in the air, and then, then he kissed her. She was taken aback at first but quickly leaned in too.

He pulled away and gave her a sad look. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry I wasn't there, I'm sorry I couldn't be there to raise her, I'm sorry you had to give her up." He shook his head and she shushed him.

"It's alright, you didn't know, you where in a coma, Reg, no one could have prevented this. What's important, is that we have her back and that you're here now." She assured him and he let out a small laugh and kissed her forehead.

"I'm so happy." He said and a smile made its way onto her face as she couldn't believe what was happening right now.

"We should be getting back before they get worried." Diana said and took Regulus' hand. He didn't move and she turned to him. "What's wrong? Come on, we can go to see Sirius, and Pippa of course!"

He shook his head. "No- I'm really sorry- I- I just can't." He said and she frowned, but then she remembered what she had told Pippa and the frown disappeared again.

"That's alright, just turn back into Crookshanks, you can take your time. But we can't wait to long with Pip." She said and he nodded. "No, I understand, I will make sure she knows by the end of the school year." He says and she agreed.

"Come, let's go." She said and he turned back into a cat. Together they walked back to Grimwauld place and both where relieved no one had noticed their absence.

Most where already in bed, so Diana just snuck to her room, let Regulus in and got ready for bed. She then sighed as she sat on the bed that was not hers.

"You don't want to know how weird it has been sleeping in this room." She told the cat and he meowed. She then chuckled, "oh well, I suppose it is quite better now." She said and crawled under the covers and he laid next to her in cat form.

She heard him purring as she slowly drifted to sleep.

The creaking of the door woke her and she looked up with sleepy eyes as they slowly adjusted to the dark. She saw a figure and squinted to see better.

"Pip, is everything alright?" She asked when she recognised the girl. "I can't sleep, I had a nightmare and, I- I didn't know what to do, so I thought I'd come to you." She said silently and Diana gave her a loving smile.

"Come, I'm going to make you a glass of warm milk." She said and lead the girl to the kitchen. As she opened to door, Crookshanks walked past them into the kitchen and they followed him.

"He really seems to like you a lot." Pip chuckled and Diana nodded. "Yeah, I don't know what it is." She lied with a smile.

She got Pippa a glass of milk and heated it with a spell, then gave it to her, they leaned against the kitchen counter as she silently drank the milk. "Do you want to talk about your nightmare?" Diana asked, combing her fingers trough Pippa's brown locks.

"I was at the ministry, there where multiple deatheaters, Malfoy, Bellatrix and some others I didn't know. We where there with a few others and they attacked us. Then all of you showed up and Sirius- he- he died." He voice slightly cracked and she took another sip of the milk.

Diana just nodded with a little frown. "That sound a awful sweetheart, but look, we're here, nothing will happen everything is fine." Diana reassured her. Pippa nodded and bit her lip, which Diana immediately stopped.

"Don't do that it's a bad habit." She said and then studied the girls face. "There's more, isn't there?" She asked. Crookshanks jumped onto the counter and rubbed his head against Pippa's arm in comfort.

She breathed in deeply and watched her mother closely. "I saw dad. He was there, in my dream. He was there for a moment but then disappeared again." She sighed with tears in her eyes.

Diana pulled the girl into a hug and made eye contact with Regulus who was still on the counter. He didn't do much, though she saw the doubt in his eyes, but he stayed where he was.

"Come, let's get you back to bed." Diana said and then guided her daughter upstairs to her room.

Sirius had given Pippa her own room, Diana called it favouritism, he called it doing something nice for his niece.

Pippa laid back down and Diana tucked her in and kissed her forehead. "Mum?" Pippa said and Diana smiled. "Yes?"

"Please stay..." the girl said sleepily and Diana sat next to her on the bed. "I'll stay until you fall asleep." She reassured.

After a while, Pippa was still awake, and Diana decided on something she hadn't done in over a decade. She sang a lullaby.

"I love you so much, my little dear
You have eyes just like stars, do you hear
I rock you to sleep and cuddle you tight
Then I'll sing this song, for tonight"

Pippa fell asleep mid song and Diana kissed her forehead and left to room. When Pippa was little, she always had problems sleeping, so Diana sang her that same lullaby, she came up with it herself.

She laid back in her own bed and Regulus also jumped next to her. "She needs you, Reg." Diana whispered to him before falling asleep.

Authors note:

Look at that, family bonding time.

Anyway, I kind of wrote the lullaby myself, my mother used to sing it to me when I was little, so I changed it to English but had to change many words seeing it would rhyme and I wanted to make it not about god.

Not anything against god, but it just didn't fit for this one, sorry.
