Summary:
Enid takes Wednesday to watch a musical"Why did I agree to this?" Wednesday mutters.
"Because this is a beautiful show and you know it", Enid says, almost bouncing in her seat next to her.
Wednesday huffs.
"I guess it can't be too atrocious if it's about a witch", she says. The lights dim and the music comes on.
Good news! She's dead!
Okay, death is always a good start.
The citizens of the land of Oz proceed to sing a song about their joy regarding this witch now being deceased. At one point, Wednesday leans over towards Enid.
"This is great. If I die I want to be memorized like this", she whispers.
Enid glances at her.
"Sssshhh! Wait, what do you mean if?"Wednesday shrugs.
There's been some confusion
over rooming here at Shiz"Funny, sounds familiar", Wednesday says under her breath.
There's been some confusion
For you see my room mate is
Unusually and exceedingly peculiar
And altogether quite impossible to describe"Reminds me of someone I know", Enid whispers.
Blonde
"And she loves pink", Wednesday adds in a whisper.
What is this feeling
So sudden and new?
I felt the moment
I laid eyes on you
My pulse is rushing
My head is reeling
My face is flushing
What is this feeling?
Fervid as a flame
Does it have a name?
Yes!
Loathing
Unadulterated loathingFunny, the lyrics make it sound like love, but that makes no sense. The things the song describes is what Wednesday feels for Enid, but why would-
Oh.
Oh, no.
Every little trait, however small
Makes my very flesh begin to crawl
With simple utter loathing
There's a strange exhilaration
In such total detestation
It's so pure! So strong!
Though I do admit it came on fast
Still I do believe that it can last
And I will be loathing
Loathing you
My whole life long!As Glinda and Elphaba dance and sing around each other, Wednesday turns to Enid, watching Enid as Enid watches the show.
She is beautiful
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friendEnid is bawling her eyes out.
Taking a breath, she turns to Wednesday, and-
"Oh my god. Are you crying?" she whispers, voice hoarse.
Wednesday frantically shakes her head, wiping her wet, red eyes.
"No! It's- It's an allergic reaction, to all the, um, singing", she says."I just totally think they should have kissed", Enid says.
Wednesday pauses her frantic writing - Viper just got a new, infuriating room mate - and turns in her chair.
"Glinda and Elphaba?" she guesses.
Enid nods, before throwing herself onto her bed.
"Yes! They are so clearly queer! Urgh!" the werewolf cries.
"Well, the musical was written in 2003, but I don't think the lack of awareness at the time should justify erasing of representation today", Wednesday says.Enid is on her stomach on her bed, kicking her legs in the air and resting her chin in her hands. Wednesday rises from her chair.
"I guess love can often be confused as... Well, loathing, at first. Especially so if you are in denial", Wednesday starts.
Enid perks up.
"If you don't usually consider emotions as something positive", she says, slowly.Wednesday steps forward.
"One would if the object of their affection is really annoying", she says.Enid slowly rises from her bed.
"There was some confusion, for you see my room mate is..."
Wednesday wouldn't normally have indulged such silly behavior, but Enid looks so nervous she almost looks pained, so she guesses she can handle it. For Enid.
"Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe", Enid finishes, slowly, almost holding her breath as she speaks.
Wednesday's heart is hammering in her chest, a warm flutter filling her up."Blonde", Wednesday speaks, just one word, but it holds so, so much meaning.
Enid darts up from her bed, moving towards the center of the room and the tape line separating their sides.
"What is this feeling, so sudden and new?" Wednesday murmurs as she steps forward.
"I felt the moment I laid eyes on you", Enid says, stepping forward.
"My pulse is rushing, my head is reeling", Wednesday speaks, slowly, all of the above true as she utters the words.
"My face is flushing", Enid says, also very true. They both reach the tape line, facing each other.
"What is this feeling?" Enid asks, her voice almost a giggle. In reply, Wednesday grabs the collar of her dress, pulls her over the tape line and kisses her.
The world shrinks down to nothing. Just the two of them in the entirety of the universe, time stopping around their bubble.
They pull apart, staring at each other, Enid laughing in disbelief.
"Enid?" Wednesday says.
"Y-yeah?"
"Did you drag me to see an entire musical because you could not muster up the courage to tell me you like me?" she asks.
Enid nods meekly.
"Well done", Wednesday says, kissing her again."Enid?" Wednesday maneges to ask once they pull apart enough for her to talk.
"Yeah?" Enid asks, her mouth against the other's shoulder.
"I loathe you", Wednesday says, her voice soft and adoring as she gazes up at the blonde.
"I loathe you more!" Enid says, wrapping her arms tightly around her.
