Summary:
After a party, Enid discovers that alcohol no longer affects her. Wednesday has an explanation for that and things escalate from there

"I just don't understand how this happened. I drank way more than I should have been able to stomach. I should have been hammered, how can I not even have been a bit tipsy"

Enid sounded genuinely upset and Wednesday nearly smiled at how much she whined and at how Yoko flinched at the very sudden and very loud declaration. Clearly, the vampire did not share this strange experience and was currently suffering the consequences of her actions. Maybe she would even throw up if Wednesday played her cards right. If not, her mumbled complaints would have to be enough.

"Stop bragging! And could you quiet down, I have the worst hangover."

Yoko didn't even lift her head while talking but Enid didn't care about her friend's suffering as much as she probably should have. She would apologize later, first she really needed to figure out what exactly had happened last night. She was usually lightweight, there was no way that had just changed like that for no reason.

And she was sure she had been drinking alcohol, more than she normally did at parties because it hadn't worked the way it should have. She would have noticed if someone had switched out her drinks for ones without booze so it really was a mystery, one she couldn't just let rest like Yoko probably wanted her to. So, against her friend's wishes, she kept talking.

"I'm not bragging, just really confused. Do you think there's something wrong with me? Am I sick? Am I going to die?"

Her voice was still just as loud as before and Yoko winced again and tried to crawl deeper into her own sleeves as if they could shield her from her overly excitable friend. She really should have just skipped lunch in addition to breakfast and slept some more, instead. But she had been hungry and she hadn't expected Enid to be talking at her normal volume and not the much lower one she defaulted to when hung over.

At least Wednesday was quiet, almost silent, though there was something different about her that Yoko would have noticed and identified if she hadn't been feeling so terrible. Enid also didn't notice because she was too distracted by her own confusion. However, when Wednesday finally spoke up, neither of them could ignore the trace amounts of emotions that seeped into her voice.

"That might be my fault."

Enid, who had already opened her mouth to talk again, snapped closed fast enough that it sort of hurt her teeth. Her eyes, however, went so wide she briefly worried her eyeballs would fall out of her head. Yoko, who was equally shocked, lifted her head slightly to peer at Wednesday before placing it back down and trying to stop the world from spinning around her.

Wednesday was also slightly startled by her own outburst – something that most people would have interpreted as completely emotionless but she knew that Enid knew better – but managed to hide that far better than she had her emotions while speaking. Enid, on the other hand, had no such qualms and let her surprise show clearly.

"What?"

This time, her voice was even louder and even Wednesday flinched a bit, though luckily no one noticed, which was strange because Enid was staring at her, still more confused than Wednesday had ever seen her. For a moment, Wednesday only stared back in silence, knowing that it would rile Enid up at least a bit. Wednesday waited until she looked like she was about to be shouted at, then she cleared her throat, which was very unlike her, before dodging Enid's question out loud instead of simply refusing to answer.

"Could we talk in private? I don't think this needs to be a public conversation."

Yoko looked up again at the slight shake in her voice but one glare from Enid got her to stay silent. For Enid's sake and because she just wanted to get out of this situation and away from all of these people she didn't even know, Wednesday chose not to bring it up. She had already said more than she would have liked and would not say anything else until her and Enid were somewhere where no one else could listen in on them.
