Savannah Georgia, August 4th, 2010.
Lee,Otis,Clem,Shawn,Kenny,Doug, Mark,Ben,Chuck,Omid, and Christa quietly walk through Savannah.
Clem runs up to Lee.
Clem: Can I have my walkie-talkie back?
Clem: We're really close to where my parents are.
Lee: Later.
Christa: Can we stop, omid is hurt.
Omid: Hon.
Kenny: Can't stop now.
Lee: How much farther?
Kenny: A few blocks away.
Mark: This is a ghost town.
A church bell goes off, and everyone stops moving.
Shawn: Maybe this place isn't so dead after all.
Kenny: It's automatic on a timer.
Lee looks at his clock.
Lee: What kind of church bell goes off 20 past the hour.
Doug: Good question.
Lee looks up to see a person running on the roof, then hides.
Lee: I saw someone up there!
Shawn: You saw that, too?
Ben: I don't see anything.
Doug: Who'd you see?
Stranger: Get off the street.
Christa: I thought you said that thing was broken.
Otis: It was.
Lee grabs the walkie-talkie off his side and presses the button.
Lee: Hello?
Nothing was said.
Omid: What the hell was that?
Omid: Is someone trying to fuck with us?
Ben: Sounded more like a warning.
Chuck: Ask not for whom the bell tolls.
Kenny: What are you yammerin' on about?
Chuck: It tolls for thee.
Dozens of walkers start to approach the group. The bell has stopped tolling.
Lee: Everybody, run!
Lee,Kenny,Shawn,Mark,Ben, and Christa get out their guns.
Otis,Chuck, and Doug get their melee weapons out.
Clem and Omid try to avoid the walkers.
The group kills several walkers and run through the street. A walker trapped under a car grabs onto Kenny's ankle, making him fall and drop his gun. He grabs onto a pole and tries to pull himself toward the weapon.
Lee: Kenny!
Lee shoots the walker.
Kenny: Little too close, don't ya think?
Clementine: Ben!
Ben and Clementine are cornered against a brick wall by walkers.
Lee: No!
Lee: Ben, help her!
Clementine panics as Ben runs away.
Lee: Goddamn it!
Lee shoots several of the walkers near himself and Clementine. She yelps as a walker gets close to her.
Lee: No!
Chuck knocks over the walker and drives his shovel through its chest. Lee hugs Clementine.
Chuck: Get her the hell out of here!
Chuck: I'll catch up with ya!
Lee and Clem run ahead.
Kenny: Move your asses!
Kenny: River street's right up ahead!
Ben: That's not all.
More walkers approach.
Kenny: Oh, give me a fucking break!
Christa: Wait, where the hell's chuck?
Chuck continues to kill walkers with his shovel as more of them swarm around him.
Omid: Shit, he's in trouble!
Omid:We gotta help him!
Kenny looks at walkers approaching the group.
Kenny:There's no time!
Kenny:We've gotta go, now!
Chuck: I'll be fine!
Chuck:Just go!The group runs into the backyard of a house.
Kenny: I'll get the door!
Lee closes the gate. Omid falls down, and Christa kneels next to him. Ben and Kenny try to open the boarded-up door.
Lee: You okay?
Omid moves to a sitting position.
Omid: Ugh.
Omid:Yeah.
Christa: You've opened up your wound, you're bleeding!
Christa:Shit, that's gonna get infected. Christa:We've gotta get him inside, clean him up!
Lee: Kenny?
Lee:How's that door coming?
Kenny: I'm working on it, I'm working on it!
Christa: Well, work faster, would you? Christa:Won't be long before those things outside figure out where we went.
Christa:You know they can smell blood!
Doug: Look, why don't you focus on him.
Doug: And we can focus on this door.
Shawn: Also, keep your voice down.
Mark: Hey lee, can I talk to you?
Lee: Sure.
Lee: What is it?
Mark: Sorry for not watching for clem back there.
Lee decides.
Lee: It's okay it was just heat of the moment.
Mark: Thanks.
Lee walks up to Otis, who is staring at a grave.
Lee: Hey.
Otis: Hey.
Lee: How do you think we're going to get inside?
Otis turns around to look at the house.
Otis: That dog door.
Lee: Why?
Otis: Because the front door has to be locked.
Lee: So someone is still in there?
Otis: Who else digs a grave for their dog.
Lee walks away from Otis and walks up to Ben.
Lee: Hey.
Ben: Hi.
Lee: About what happened back there.
Ben: Look, i'm sorry.
Ben: I just panicked.
Lee: It's okay, but if you do it again, you won't like what happens next.
Lee: Got it.
Ben: Got it.
Lee walks away from Ben and walks up to Kenny.
Lee: How's it going?
Kenny: The door is locked.
Kenny: Maybe we can just break it down, but it just makes too much noise.
Lee walks away from Kenny and walks up to Doug.
Lee: Hey.
Doug: Hey.
Lee: How do you think we're getting in?
Doug: Well, if the doors and windows are locked, we could try that dog door.
Lee: Maybe.
Lee walks away from Doug and walks up to Shawn.
Lee: Hey.
Shawn: Hi.
Lee: How do you think we're getting. In?
Shawn: Maybe there's a back door, we can go through.
Lee: Maybe.
Lee walks away from Shawn and walks up to the door.
Lee: Move kenny.
Kenny moves out of the way.
Lee crouches down and.
Ben: I tried that.
Ben: It's locked, too.
Kenny: Who ever heard of a locked doggy door?
Omid: I have.
Omid: Are neighbors had one just like that one.
Omid: The dog's collar has a chip in it, and the dog door opens.
Kenny: Well shit.
Kenny: Every day is a school day.
Lee gets up.
Ben: Okay, but where's the dog?
Lee picks up a nearby shovel and walks up to the grave, Otis is looking at.
Otis backs up, and Lee starts digging. Everyone but Omid walk over to Lee.
Clem: What's in there?
Mark: Nothing you want to see, clem.
Mark: Stay back.
Clem: But.
Mark: Please.
Clem: Okay.
Clem walks over to Omid.
Lee stops digging and puts the shovel down.
Lee crouches down and picks up the dog's collar, which is still attached to the dead dog.
Lee: I can't get it off.
The dog's head breaks off its body.
Christa pukes.
Shawn: You okay?
Christa: I'm fine.
Omid: You sure?
Christa: Yes.
Lee gets up and walks to the door.
Lee crouches down and takes out the dog collar, which unlocks the dog door.
Kenny: Yes, goddamn.
Lee puts his arm through but can not reach the knob.
Lee gets back up.
Lee: My arm can't reach.
Ben: Here, let me try.
Lee moves out of the way.
Ben crouches and puts his arm through.
Ben gets up.
Ben: It's open.
Doug: Good job.
Omid: Can we maybe have this conversation inside?
Omid: My leg's starting to hurt like hell.
Kenny steps through the door.
Kenny: Looks okay from here.
Kenny: Everybody in!
Everyone enters the house. Christa helps Omid onto a couch in the living room.
Omid: Argh!
Christa: Sorry!
Chirsra: Sorry!
Omid: No, it's okay.
Omid: I'm good.
Omid: Feel better already just being off my feet.
Omid: Thanks, babe.
Christa joins the group in the kitchen.
Christa: So, when were you going to tell us about the radio?
Kenny: Tell you what?
Christa: That it's working!
Christa: That there's someone else on the other end of that thing!
Christa: You didn't think that might have been worth sharing with the rest of us?
Christa: Well?
Lee: I was going to tell you.
Lee: Kenny and I only found out yesterday.
Christa: So both of you were keeping it from the rest of us?
Christa: Great.
Kenny: Who gives a shit about the damn radio?
Kenny: I'm more worried about whoever it was out there, ringing that bell and bringing the dead down on top of us!
Kenny: It's like they didn't want us to make it to the river!
Otis: Maybe they don't even know we exist.
Doug: I agree with otis.
Doug: The person could've been drawing the walkers away from a location.
Doug: So they can go to the location the walkers were at.
Shawn: That is a possibility.
Mark: Let's worry about the boat first, then the bell ringer.
Christa: What makes you think it's not the same person?
Christa: Whoever was on the radio was close enough to see us in the street.
Christa: And we didn't see anyone else other than the guy in the belltower.
Kenny: Because that doesn't make a lick of damn sense.
Kenny: Why would they bring out the dead like that and then try to warn us about it?
Christa: How much sense does anything make anymore?
Christa: In case you haven't noticed, there's a lot of twisted folks out there these days.
Christa: At least the dead don't play games with you.
Lee: Whoever that was on the radio, I think they were trying to help us.
Lee: They did warn us, didn't they?
Christa: Maybe you're right.
Christa: But whoever it was, they're watching us.
Christa: Following us.
Christa: And they don't want us to know who they are.
Christa: I can't think of any explanation for that that would make me feel better.
Christa: Can you?
Shawn: Not really.
Lee: I'm with kenny on that.
Lee: Once it's quieted down outside, we'll all head out to the river together. Lee: Deal?
Kenny: Suit yourselves.
Kenny: But I'm not gonna wait around too long for someone else to grab up those boats.
Kenny: That's our ticket out of here.
Ben: Place seems secure, at least.
Christa: I'll feel better when we know that for sure.
Christa: We need to check the whole house.
Kenny: Alright, fine.
Kenny: You and me'll take the upstairs.
Kenny: Lee, you've got down here. Kenny: Make sure you check every door, understand?
Lee: Okay.
Ben,Christa,Kenny,Doug, Shawn,Mark,and Otis leave.
Lee opens one of the doors in the living room, holding his gun in the other hand. He finds it to just be an empty closet.
Lee: All clear in here.
Lee opens the other door, drawing his gun, finding it to just be a bathroom.
Lee: Nothing hiding in here.
Lee looks at the double doors in the hallway.
Lee: Just one more to check.
Lee pushes open the double doors, drawing his gun. A broom falls over.
Lee: Jesus!
Clem: What?
Clem: What happened?
Lee places the broom back.
Lee: It's nothing.
Lee: Just nothing.
Lee returns to Christa, Omid, and Clementine.
Lee: Well, the place ain't got much. Lee: We should be okay here for a while, at least until it quiets down outside.
Christa: Good.
Christa: Thanks.
Christa: Yeah, for now.
Christa: But I'm really worried his leg might've gotten infected.
Shawn: Don't suppose you turned up any meds while you were poking around?
Lee: Nah, just dog food.
Lee: And there's some whiskey in the back.
Christa: We were just asking clementine if she knows who the man on her radio is.
Christa: It's okay, honey, you can tell us.
Mark: Who is he?
Doug: What does he want?
Lee: Go ahead, clem.
Otis: It's okay.
Lee: You're not in any trouble.
Clem: It's just a friend.
Clem: I don't think he wants to hurt us.
Christa: What has he been saying to you?
Mark: What have you been saying to him?
Clem: I told him I was trying to find my parents and that they were in Savannah.
Clem: He really seems nice, I think he wants to help me find them.
Otis: Clem.
Christa: Honey, trust me, that's not what he wants.
Christa:He.
Ben: Lee!
Ben runs partway down the stairs.
Ben: Lee, you need to get up here now.
Lee: What's wrong?
Ben: It's kenny.
Ben and Lee go upstairs and stand in front of the stairs to the attic.
Ben: Kenny said he thought he heard something up there, went to go look.
Lee: He's up there?
Ben: I can't get him to come down.
Lee: Stay here.
Lee climbs up the attic stairs. Kenny is kneeling on the floor.
Lee: Kenny?
Lee: You okay, man?
Lee: Oh, jesus.
Lee: What the hell is that?
Lee: Oh, my god.
Lee notices the shriveled walker corpse of a young boy. It takes a step forward, then falls, unable to support its own weight.
Kenny: Kinda looks like duck, don't he?
Lee: It's just a kid.
Lee: What the hell happened to him?
Kenny: Ain't nothing on him.
Kenny: Guess he must've been hiding out up here.
Kenny: Starved to death.
Lee: Jesus christ.
Kenny: I don't know if I can, lee. Kenny: Couldn't do it before.
Kenny: Can't do it now.
Lee: I can't ask you to do this, man.
Lee: I'll take care of it.
Lee: Like I did before.
Kenny: Are you sure?
Lee: I guess we'll find out.
Lee: Poor kid must have tried to hide out up here until he starved to death. Lee: This could have been clementine if we hadn't found her when we did.
Lee takes out the spike remover.
Lee: I'm sorry.
Lee bashes the walker's head.
Kenny: We should bury him.
Lee: I'll take care of it.
Lee picks up the walker's body and goes downstairs.
Lee carries the body to the backyard. He places it in the grave with the dog and covers the grave with dirt as Clementine,Christa, and Mark briefly watch from a distance before going inside. Lee finishes filling the grave and notices a figure behind the fence; he runs away as soon as Lee sees him.
Lee grabs fence rails.
Lee: Hey.
Lee:Hey!
Lee: You come back here, I'll kill you! Lee: You understand?
Lee: I'll kill you!
Ben,Christa,Doug,Shawn, and Otis run out to the backyard.
Christa: Lee, what's going on?
Lee: I saw someone standing there by the fence.
Lee: Watching us.
Ben: A walker?
Lee: No, too fast.
Lee: Took off like a bat out of hell when I spotted him.
Christa: Was it a man or a woman?
Lee: Didn't get a good enough look.
Ben: What does it matter?
Christa: I'm wondering if it's the same guy who's been following us.
Christa: The guy on the radio.
Otis: Hopefully not.
Kenny steps out of the house.
Lee: Kenny?
Kenny: I'm fine.
Kenny: Just I'm fine.
Kenny: What's all the ruckus?
Shawn: Lee saw someone watching us from outside the gate.
Kenny: What?
Kenny: Who?
Lee: I can't be sure.
Lee: They ran off before I could get a good look.
Ben: I don't like this one bit.
Ben: Not one bit.
Christa: Me either.
Doug: Walkers are one thing, but the thought of someone out there actually stalking us.
Kenny: Alright, that's it.
Kenny: We've stuck around here long enough.
Kenny: It's time to get back on track, time to get down to the river.
Christa: I don't know if omid's well enough to move yet.
Kenny: Well, he'd better get ready. Kenny: Because I'm going down to River Street right now to find a boat, and as soon as she's ready to go, we're moving out.
Lee: I'm with kenny.
Lee: The sooner we get the hell out of here, the better.
Kenny: Well, then, hell, what are we waiting for?
Ben: I'll go get my stuff.
Kenny: No. ben, you'll only slow us down.
Kenny: Lee and I can go scout the river while the rest of you get ready to move out.
Kenny: You stay behind with christa, omid, shawn, doug, and mark.
Clem and Mark run out, too.
Clem: Wait, can't I come?
Clem: My mom and dad can't be far away now.
Clem: Maybe we can look for them on the way to the river.
Lee: We can't right now.
Clementine: But you promised we'd go find them when we got here.
Clem: On the train, you promised.
Lee: I know I did, sweet pea.
Lee: I haven't forgotten.
Lee: But savannah's more dangerous than I thought it would be.
Lee: We all need to stick together as a group.
Clementine: Okay.
Kenny: Daylight's burning.
Kenny: Gonna go grab my gear, then we'll head out.
Mark: Come on, clem, let's go see if omid needs anything.
Everyone but Lee,Ben,and Otis go inside.
Ben: So, you're just gonna leave me on the bench here?
Lee: I'm worried about omid.
Lee: He's in bad shape.
Lee: I need you to stay here, keep an eye on him.
Ben: He's got christa for that.
Lee: If it comes down to it, I can't rely on christa to do what has to be done. Lee: Not with clementine in the same house.
Lee: You understand what I'm saying?
Ben: Yeah.
Ben: You can count on me.
Lee: Good.
Ben goes inside.
Otis: Lee, I've been thinking about something and I want to go with you.
Lee: Why?
Otis: Just in case something bad happens.
Lee: Like what.
Otis: Like, what if an ambush happens and you need an extra hand.
Lee: Do you not trust kenny to do the job?
Otis: I'm going to be honest with you.
Otis: No.
Lee decides.
Lee: Okay, I'll trust you.
Otis and Lee go inside.
