Chapter 7 long road ahead part 2

Railroad,August 3rd,2010.
Lee wakes up in the morning and sees Clem next to him, asleep and alive. He realizes that it was all a dream.
Kenny: We got something up ahead.
Lee gets up and Clementine lies down on the couch, still asleep. Lee goes up to the front of the RV.
Kenny: Damn it.
Kenny: Road's blocked.
Kenny:Now we gotta deal with this.
The RV pulls to a stop in front of a railroad crossing with a train stopped in the middle of the tracks.
Lee,Kenny,Ben,Mark,Shawn,Otis,and Doug get out of the RV and approach it.
Ben: Is there any way to get around it.
Kenny: Doesn't look like it.
Kenny:On foot, maybe.
Kenny:Can't really afford to do that now.
Otis: Looks like we have work to do.
Lee: This seems like a safe area.
Lee:All this brush will stop anything from creeping up on us.
Mark: I hope you're right.
Clementine steps out of the RV, wearing a backpack. Katjaa holds Duck's hand as they both climb out of the RV as well.
Ben: Why don't you,mark,doug, shawn,and I go look around?
Lee: Yeah, everyone else relax.
Lee:Clem, stay close to kenny and kat, okay?
Lee:You to otis.
Katjaa: Lee, if you come across anything to drink, if there's a dining car or something, I think duck's a bit dehydrated.
Kenny: It's a freighter, hon.
Kenny:Be careful in there.
Lee: What, you think there might be something dangerous inside of an abandoned locomotive?
Lee:Hadn't crossed my mind.
Lee walks up to Otis.
Lee: Hey.
Otis: Hi.
Lee: Do you think I did the right thing?
Otis: Absolutely.
Otis: It's what she deserves.
Lee:I hope you're right.
Lee: How are you feeling?
Otis: Okay, you?
Lee: Okay, also.
Otis: Well, that's good.
Lee walks away from Otis and walks up to Doug.
Lee:Hey, doug.
Doug:Oh hey.
Lee: Do you think I did the right thing?
Doug: No, did we do the right thing?
Lee: We?
Doug: It was everyone choice, not just yours.
Doug: And yes, it was the right choice.
Lee:Okay.
Lee:How are you feeling?
Doug:Could be better.
Lee:You're right.
Lee walks away from Doug and walks up to Mark.
Lee: Hey.
Mark: Hey.
Lee: Do you think I did the right thing?
Mark: She was planning to kill one us of course you did the right thing.
Lee:Alright.
Lee:How are you feeling?
Mark:I'm disappointed with myself for siding with lilly.
Lee:Why?
Mark:Well,because she was planning to kill one of us based on a hunch.
Lee:You couldn't have known what she was planning.
Mark:But still.
Mark:Anyways, how do you feel?
Lee:Okay.
Mark:Good.
Lee walks away from Mark and walks up to Shawn.
Lee: Hey, shawn.
Shawn: Hey, lee.
Lee: Do you think I did the right thing?
Shawn:Yes, but no.
Lee;What do you mean?
Shawn:Yes, because she was going to kill one of us.
Shawn:No, because we left her to die.
Lee:But what if she stole the rv?
Shawn:Then I would've apologized and said you should've left her on the side of the road.
Lee: Oh, okay.
Lee:How are you feeling?
Shawn:Honestly, I feel like shit.
Lee:Why?
Shawn:The motel is destroyed,lilly snapped,duck is bit,and there is a train in our way.
Lee:I'm sure we can move the train.
Shawn:Maybe, but let's not get our hopes up.
Lee walks away from Shawn and walks up to the boxcar.
Lee opens the boxcar door and enters. Inside is a mattress, a chair, and other miscellaneous items. Ben appears behind Lee and gets into the boxcar as well.
Ben: Whoa.
Lee: Somebody's been livin' in here.
Ben: Yeah, man.
Ben:Shit.
Ben:Think they're gone?
Lee: I hope so, but this looks recently used.
Lee:Be on the lookout and have your guard up.
Ben walks away.
Lee picks up the map.
Lee: A map of where the train goes.
Lee:I think these tracks might lead to the coast.
Lee:Route 27, savannah.
Lee:That's where kenny's got us headed.
Lee picks up a water bottle.
Lee:Water for duck.
Lee jumps out of the boxcar and walks up to Katjaa and Duck.
Lee crouches down.
Lee:Hey.
Katjaa:Hi.
Lee:I found water in the boxcar.
Katjaa:Thank you, lee.
Katjaa takes the water bottle.
Lee gets up.
Lee walks up to the freighters ladder and climbs up it.
Lee looks inside the train compartments until he sees Doug going through a compartment.
Lee:What are you doing?
Doug:Checking out which weapon I should take.
Lee:Can I take one?
Doug:Sure, go ahead and knock yourself out.
Lee takes the spike remover.
Lee:Feels heavy.
Doug:I guess I'll take this one.
Doug takes the spanner and closes the compartment.
Lee and Doug prepare to open the cab door, and they notice someone inside that appears to be a walker with his back turned.
Lee: Shit.
Ben joins Lee at the window.
Lee: We got one.
Doug:Walker.
Lee:Sitting in the chair.
Lee:We got 'im.
Lee smacks the walker in the head.
Lee: Suppose we ought to look him over.
Ben: Yeah.
Lee drags the engineer off the chair. He notices the missing chunk of his face and the bloody, cracked window at the front of the cab.
Doug:He didn't even turn.
Ben: I think doug is right.
Lee: Christ.
Lee notices an orange button.
Lee:That light is blinking.
Ben: Push it!
Lee: Push it?
Ben: Why not?
Lee: Are you fucking serious?
Doug: Don't do it.
Ben: Here, look.
Ben presses the button.
The train squeals.
Ben: It's just the brakes.
Lee: Okay, I'll give you that one.
Kenny enters the cab.
Kenny: This fucker works?
Lee: Seems like it.
Doug:I'm surprised it still works.
Kenny sits in the front seat.
Kenny:I'll be damned.
Kenny:How the hell do we get it movin'?
Lee: I don't know.
Lee:Ask mister amtrak over here.
Ben dragging body away.
Ben:No clue.
Lee: We found this in the boxcar back here.
Lee gives Kenny the map.
Kenny: Whoa, is this what it looks like?
Lee: I think so.
Kenny: This hoss will take us right to Savannah.
Kenny:A hundred tons of steel.
Kenny:Put a thousand walkers between us and the ocean, and we don't have to give a shit!
Kenny: I can't believe it.
Lee: We just have to figure out how to get it started.
Kenny: I'm sure we can figure it out. Kenny:How tough could it be?
Lee: No idea, but we'll find out.
Doug:The guy probably has a manual for starting this.
Ben returns from disposing of the corpse.
Kenny: Ben, if you could keep an eye on the girls,duck,and the boys, I'd appreciate it.
Kenny:I'm going to make sense of these controls.
Ben leaves.
Kenny: Man, this could be exactly what we need.
Lee looks around and finds a notepad.
Lee: Shit, this is it.
Lee:Instructions on starting the engine.
Lee:Damn.
Lee:Pages are gone.
Lee:I can kinda see the indentations from the writing.
Doug:Let me see that.
Lee hands Doug the notepad.
Doug:Interesting.
Lee:What?
Doug:Now I know how to get this train started.
Lee:But there is nothing written on there.
Doug:I can read indentations from writing.
Lee:Oh, that makes more sense now.
Doug toggles the switches, and the dashboard lights turn on.
Kenny: Son of a bitch!
Kenny:Whatever you did lit the dash up!
Doug: So far, so good.
Doug turns the dials, and the red light switches to green.
Kenny: Now we're talkin'!
Doug goes outside and opens the engine compartment.
Doug turns the switches in the engine compartment.
Kenny: Holy shit, we're golden!
Lee:You did it, doug!
Lee: Yeah, we are.
Lee:Golden.
Lee:Man, feels good.
Doug:Let's do this.
Kenny: Let's fucking enjoy this.
Kenny: C'mon, let's see if she'll move.
Kenny,Lee,and Doug return to the train cab.
Kenny: It's all yours.
Lee uses the throttle, and the train lurches forward, then stops.
Kenny: Damn it.
Kenny:Of course, we're still attached. Kenny:Can you go find out where we're stuck and get us unstuck?
Lee: Yeah.
Doug:I'll be with the others until you figure out how to get the train unstuck.
Doug leaves walk away and joins the others.
Lee leaves the train cab and walks to the box car door.
Lee opens the door to the box car and jumps out on the other side of the box car.
Lee pries the coupler pin free with the spike remover and detaches it.
Lee: There.
Lee:Hey, kenny, we're loose!
Lee goes back inside the boxcar. A man appears behind him.
???: You touch any of my stuff?
Lee: I took the map of the train routes.
???: That's fine, you can have that.
Lee: Really?
???: Yeah, I got 'em all right up here. The man points to his head.
???: I guess it's no worse for wear.
???:Name's chuck.
Chuck: Charles, if you're fancy.
Lee: Lee.
Chuck: That your crew outside?
Lee: Yeah.
Chuck: And the guy up in the cab?
Lee: Him too.
Chuck: I saw you walking through here and thought about scaring the pants off of you.
Lee: What?
Chuck: But I couldn't force myself to do it.
Lee: You're still kinda freaking me out.
Chuck: Train folk'll do that.
Chuck:Already met everyone outside; they all warmed to me right quick in direct sunlight.
Lee and Chuck leave the boxcar. Chuck sits down on the log, his guitar next to him.
Clementine: You met chuck!
Lee: Yeah.
Lee:I did.
Katjaa: It's so nice to meet someone normal for a change.
Clementine: He gave us candy.
Clementine:Ben and otis, too!
Ben looks up from the candy bar he's eating.
Duck coughs.
Chuck: I'm awful.
Chuck: Sorry, your son's not feeling good.
Katjaa: I appreciate your concern.
Chuck: Well, with a little TLC, I'm sure he'll be fit as a fiddle in no time.
Chuck:And I can offer y'all whatever I got, although it ain't much.
Kenny joins the group.
Katjaa: Thank you.
Katjaa:We'd like to do the same.
Kenny: Why don't we hold off on?
Katjaa: Stay with us, we'd like the company.
Kenny leaves, and Chuck starts playing his guitar.
Lee walks up to Kenny, who is standing by the train.
Kenny: So that's it?
Kenny:We're cut loose?
Lee: Seems that way, yeah.
Kenny: Great.
Kenny approaches the group.
Kenny: We don't got much left, so just gather whatever you have.
Kenny:Let's go.
Everyone walks over to the train.
Kenny: Want a ride?
Chuck: Well, it sounds like you're taking my home.
Kenny: That's a yes, then.
Chuck: Haven't found anything better for keeping the creepy-crawlies out than that boxcar.
Chuck hops inside the boxcar.
Clementine: Duck's sick.
Kenny: Get on the train, clementine.
Clementine gets on the train.
Katjaa: He is getting sicker.
Kenny: Let me look at him.
Mark,Doug,and Shawn get on the train.
Kenny examines Duck, then takes a step back after noticing how pale and sickly he is.
Lee: We can keep going if you want.
Kenny: Damn right, I want.
Kenny:That's what we're doing.
Katjaa: I think lee just wants to talk it through.
Otis gets on the train.
Kenny: It's talked through!
Kenny:Get on, kat.
Kennt:I'll be up front.
Kenny:I don't want to hear any nonsense until we get where we're goin'.
Kenny and Lee enter the train cab. Lee uses the throttle and the train moves along.
Everyone except Kenny sits in the boxcar. They all notice Duck's worsening condition.
Chuck: Got to be hard on ya, eh? Chuck:Six adults taking care of four kids; no disrespect, son.
Chuck looks at Ben which makes him frown.
Lee: There were more of us.
Chuck: Dead get 'em?
Lee: No.
Chuck: Ah.
Chuck:Livin' got 'em.
Duck coughs up blood.
Katjaa: Lee!
Katjaa:Lee.
Katjaa:I need you.
Katjaa:Right now.
Katjaa:I need you to go get ken.
Lee: What's?
Katjaa: Would you get that off his face?
Katjaa:My hands are full here.
Lee picks up the rag on the floor.
Katjaa: Thank you.
Katjaa:Could you just get that off his face, please?
Lee wipes the blood off Duck's face.
Katjaa: He's out of time.
Katjaa:We need to stop this train.
Lee: Okay.
Katjaa: Please.
Lee exits the boxcar and enters the cab.
Lee: You need to stop the train.
Lee: Duck's just about gone back there, man.
Kenny: Don't feed me that bullshit. Kenny:He'll be fine.
Lee: He won't be.
Lee:He's going, kenny.
Kenny: What is the goddamn deal? Kenny:He's a little sick, but we can't just quit.
Kenny:It's a scratch!
Kenny:He's not like the others.
Kenny:Jesus, all y'all are just makin' it worse.
Lee: You think you're the reason duck was bitten.
Lee:Like you had this coming, or something.
Lee:Stop the train, man.
Kenny pulls the throttle and the train stops. He steps out of the cab and goes to the boxcar, where Duck is lying on the floor with Katjaa nearby.
Katjaa: Ken, it's.
Katjaa:I think it's time.
Kenny: The boy's been bit.
Kenny:In case you haven't figured that out.
Everybody is sad.
Lee: Take as long as you need.
Kenny: There ain't no time left to take.
Kenny: What are we gonna do?
Katjaa: We can't allow him to become one of those things.
Kenny: But what if?
Kenny:What if he doesn't?
Katjaa: Kenny, I love you very much.
Katjaa:I love our son more than life itself.
Katjaa:I need you to hear me.
Katjaa:What you are saying, that he may not turn, is foolish.
Kenny: But.
Katjaa: No.
Kenny: There's come on, kat.
Katjaa: If you think of one, let me know.
Kenny: Isn't there some sort of pill, or something we can just give him.
Katjaa: Stop it.
Kenny: He can just drift off to sleep, right, hon?
Kenny:I mean, jesus, this is our son.
Katjaa: I know.
Katjaa:But we know it's.
Katjaa points to Duck's head.
Katjaa:Here or nothing.
Kenny: Well, fuck.
Kenny:Just who, then?
Kenny:You want me to?
Katjaa: You don't have to.
Kenny: I'll do it.
Katjaa: No.
Katjaa:You don't have to.
Kenny: Katjaa, fuck, I can.
Kenny:I can do this.
Katjaa: You can't.
Katjaa:I love you, ken.
Katjaa:But this is beyond you.
Lee: I'll do it.
Katjaa: No.
Katjaa:It should be a parent.
Lee: No parent should have to do something like this.
Kenny: Lee's right, kat.
Katjaa:We can say our goodbyes and just let that be it.
Katjaa: I don't know.
Katjaa: Lee, you'd be doing this family a great service.
Katjaa: Why don't we take him into the forest?
Katjaa: So clementine doesn't have to see.
Kenny: Yeah.
Katjaa: Give us a moment to say goodbye?
Lee: Of course.
Katjaa picks up Duck.
Kenny: I can't.
Katjaa: Lee, be with him?
Lee puts his hand on Kenny's shoulder, but he collapses to his knees in grief.
Katjaa and Kenny go into the forest. Clementine watches them.
Clementine: What's happening?
Lee: Duck is dying.
Clementine: I know.
Clementine: What are you doing?
Lee: I'm killing him.
Clementine: For good?
Lee: Yes.
Lee:So he doesn't come back.
Lee: Look, clem.
Lee:Things will.
A gunshot is heard.
Lee: What the?!
Kenny: No!
Lee: Mark, take clementine into the train!
Lee:Go, it'll be fine.
Lee runs towards the forest and finds Kenny hovering Katjaa's dead body and sees Duck is still alive against a tree.
Kenny: Kat!
Kenny:Kat!
Kenny:Katjaa!
Kenny:Why, kat?
Kenny:Honey, oh, fuckin' god!
Kenny sobs.
Kenny: You said you could do it, kat. Kenny:Goddamn it!
Kenny:You said you could do it!
Lee: What the hell happened?!
Lee:What did you?
Kenny: She couldn't she just fuck.
Kenny: Oh, fuck!
Kenny brushes his hand over Katjaa's face to close her eyes. He picks up the gun and approaches Duck.
Kenny: What do we do?
Lee: Give me the gun, ken.
Lee:I'll do it.
Kenny complies. Lee shoots Duck.
