Prologue a new day part 1

Atlanta Georgia, May 15th, 2010.
It is a normal day until a police car comes into view. And inside is a police officer and a black guy.
The Police radio is still babbling on. Police officer:Well, I reckon you didn't do it.
???:Why do you say that?
Police officer:Every prisoner lord knows how many.
Police officer:About now say they didn't do it.
???:Every time?
Police officer:Every time. The guy looks at the rear view mirror.
Police officer:I followed your case a little bit, you being a Macon boy and all.
???:You're from Macon then.
Policeman:Yep, I came up to Atlanta to be a city cop in the seventies.
Police officer:Always wanted to work a murder case, like that senatorial mess you got yourself mixed up in, with all due respect, a real shame, that is.
The man looks out the window as another police car speeds past in the opposite direction with its sirens on.
Police officer:Hell, the whole family used to be regulars at your folks' drugstore right in downtown.
Police officer:Still there?
???:Sure is.
Police officer:Good.
The man looks at the rear view mirror again.
Police officer:I got a nephew up at UGA, you teach there long?
???:Going on my sixth year.
Police officer:You meet your wife in Athens?
The man looks distressed and turns his face away, looking out the window.
Police officer:You wanna know how I see it?
Several more police cars pass by with their sirens on, along with a SWAT truck, all of them driving in the opposite direction.
???:Sure.
The police officer opens his mouth, about to speak, but notices the man glaring at him and stays silent for a few moments.
Police officer:Regardless, could be you just married the wrong woman.
The man opens his mouth to speak, but decides not to.
Police officer:You'll have to learn to stop worrying about things you can't control.
Helicopter flies past car.
The man and the officer stay silent for a few seconds.
Police officer:I'm driving this man once,he was the worst one.
Police officer:He wouldn't stop going on about how he didn't do it.
Police officer:He was an older fella. Police officer:Big, soft eyes behind a pair of smart folk glasses, and he's just wailing back there, says it wasn't him. Police officer:Crying and snotting all over, right where you're sitting.
The police officer turns off the radio.
Police officer:Then, before long, he starts kicking the back of the seat,like a fussy baby on an airplane.
Police officer:And I tell him he's gotta stop, that's government property, and I'll be forced to zap him otherwise. Police officer:So he stops, and having exhausted all his options, he starts crying out for his Mama.
Police officer: "Mama, it's all a big mistake! It wasn't me!"
???:So, did he do it?
Police officer:They caught the fucker red-handed!
Police officer:Stabbin' his wife, cutting her up as the boys came through the door!
Police officer:He sits in my car, screaming bloody murder that it wasn't him!
Police officer:I think he actually believed it himself.
Police officer:It goes to show that people will go up and go mad when they believe their life is over.
Police officer:Oh, I got another good one for ya.
Police officer:This one's a little bit less depressing and a bit more hilarious if I do say so.
The police officer turns to face the man and the man sees two people on the road.
???:Watch out!
Police officer:This other time.
The car crashes into the two people on the road, veering out of control, through the guard rail, and off the edge of the cliff. Half-conscious, the man sees multiple people moving outside the car and hears screams and growls before passing out.
???:Ugh what the fuck?
???:Ah shit my leg.
???:Hello, anyone back there?
???:Hi, I'm here.
???:Good because I thought I was alone.
???:So where'd you come from?
???:I got ran over by you guys.
???:Oops, sorry.
???:So, any ideas to get out of this car?
???:Maybe kick out the window.
???:Okay.
???:So what's your name?
???:My name is otis, and you are?
???:My name is lee.
Otis:Nice to meet you.
Lee:You too.
Lee and Otis kick their windows out and climb out.
Otis:So Lee, are you always in cuffs, or is it your first time?
Lee:First time.
Otis:Awesome, then let's get those cuffs off you.
Lee:Right. Otis walks to the dead police officer easily, but Lee walks to the police officer hardly.
Lee:Ah shit.
Otis:You okay?
Lee:It's just I hurt my leg in the car crash.
Otis:Oh, okay, take your time.
Lee finally reaches Otis and the dead police officer.
Lee:So what do you think happened to him?
Otis:Honestly I don't know but he probably has the keys.
Lee:Yeah you're probably right.
Lee sees the keys and grabs them.
Lee:Why is there so many keys?
Otis:Maybe two of them are for the cuffs and one of them are for the car.
Lee:Okay but which one?
Otis:Just guess.
Lee unlocks one cuff but accidentally drops the keys.
Lee:Damn it.
Otis:Don't worry I got this. Otis picks up the keys with ease and hands them to Lee.
Lee unlocks the second cuff and now he's feeling his wrists. But then the police officer moved.
Otis:What the?
Lee:Officer?
The police officer trys to jump at them but failed so it crawls toward them.
They crawled back to the police car.
Lee:Jesus what happened to you? Otis:Oh man where's a gun when you need one.
Lee:Hey otis I found a shotgun go find a bullet.
Otis:Found one.
Lee:Give it to me.
Otis hands Lee the shotgun bullet and Lee loads the shotgun and aims it at the police officer.
Lee:Don't make me do this!
Otis:Just do it!
Lee shoots the police officer's head off.
Lee: Man.
Otis: You said it.
Lee throws the shotgun to the side.
Otis:So what now?
Lee:I wait you see that?
Otis: Huh? Otis looks at what Lee is looking at.
Lee:Hey you go get some one! Otis:There's been a shooting!
The person runs away.
Lee:Oh no.
Otis:What is it now?
Ugly people come out of the woods. Otis:Run!
Otis gets up quickly and looks back at Lee who gets up slowly.
Otis: Hurry up lee!
Lee trips on the dead police officer. Otis: Lee!
Otis helps Lee up and goes at Lee's speed. Lee and Otis finally reach the fence and they both climb up.
Falling into the backyard and the dead people banging against the fence. Until a gunshot in the distance that made them stop and walk away.
Otis:Great so noise attracts them.
Lee:So we can't make any loud noises.
Lee and Otis look around and find some tea cups.
Lee: Could put some bourbon in there. Otis: Or water.
They walk to the house back door.
Lee knocks on the door.
Lee:Hello anyone in there we need help.
Otis:Dude, what are you doing?
Lee:Just seeing if anyone's here.
Otis:Fine, just don't make to much noise.
Lee opens the back door.
Lee:Coming in don't shoot okay.
Lee looks at otis.
Otis: Well at least they're not shooting.
Lee and Otis enter the house.
Lee closes the back door.
Lee:Ah shit, hello we're not intruders or one of them. Lee looks around.
Lee:These people may need more help then we do.
Otis:No shit.
They look around the house and found something.
Lee:Hey, I found food.
Otis: Is it real?
Lee:Let me see.
Lee touches the food.
Lee: It's fake damn.
Otis: Well I found a pool of blood so don't walk in it or you'll slip.
Lee: Okay.
Three new messages.
Otis: Hey what's that thing.
Lee: It's a answering machine.
Lee touches a button on the answering machine.
Three new messages.
Message one left at 5:43 pm.
Diana: Hey sandra this is diana we're still in savanna.
Diana: Ed had a little accident with some crazy guy near the motel, so we had to get him back to the ER and have it checked out.
Diana: Anyway he's not feeling well enough to drive back tonight so we're spending an extra day.
Diana: Thanks so much for looking after clementine and I promise we will be back before your spring break.
Message two left at 11:19 pm.
Diana: Oh my god finally I don't know if you tried to reach us but all the calls are getting dropped.
Diana: They're not letting us leave and aren't telling us anything about
Atlanta.
Diana:Please please just leave the city and take clementine with you back to Marietta.
Diana:I've gotta get back to the hospital, please let me know that you're safe.
Message three left at 6:51 am.
Diana: Clementine,baby if you can hear this call the police it's 911.
Diana: We love you, we love you, we love yo.
Lee picks up the family photo.
Otis: So it's just her and her babysitter.
???: Daddy?
Both: Huh?
Lee puts the photo down.
Otis and Lee walk over the pool of blood and look in the kitchen.
They kept looking in the kitchen to find a cup of water and a walkie-talkie.
Lee looks around and Otis walks up to him.
Otis: Well what are you waiting for? Lee presses the button.
Lee: Hello?
???: You need to be quiet.
Otis:What's your name?
???:I'm clementine and this is my house.
Lee: Hi clementine I'm lee.
Otis: And I'm otis.
Lee:So how old are you?
Clementine: I'm eight.
Otis:And you're all alone?
Clementine:I don't where anybody is.
Clementine:How old are you guys?
Lee: I'm 37.
Otis: And I'm 10.
Lee:Where are your parents?
Clementine:They left me with a babysitter and took a vacation in savanna, you know where the boats are.
Lee: Are you safe?
Clementine:They tried to get me but I hid in my tree house and now they can't get in.
Otis: That's smart.
Clementine peaks out of the tree house.
Clementine:I can see you can you see me.
Otis and Lee wave their hands at clementine.
Then clementine shouted and hid in the tree house.
Lee and Otis look behind them to get attacked by a dead person.
Lee: Ah help!
Otis:What do you want me to do!
Lee: Try anything!
Otis:Okay, um.
Otis pulls out a knife.
Lee:Hurry, I don't know how long I can hold this girl.
Otis:Got it.
Otis pushes the dead person off Lee and stabs it in the chest.
Lee: Let's go.
Otis: Agreed.
Otis and Lee run for it but Lee slip on the blood pool.
Otis: Lee watch out!
Lee: Ugh.
Lee kicks the dead person's head.
Lee tries to get up but the dead person grabs Lee's leg and trips him making him fall on Otis.
Otis: Ah fuck Lee!
Lee: Sorry Otis!
Clementine opens the back door.
Clementine: Here!
Lee is holding the dead person in place.
Otis grabs the hammer out of clementine's hand and used the sharp end to stab the dead person's head.
Lee pushes the dead person off.
Otis takes his knife out of the dead person's chest and puts it in his pocket.
Otis grabs the hammer and puts it in his pocket.
Lee and Otis gets up.
Lee: Hi there.
Otis: Was that your babysitter?
Clementine: Yes so did you kill it?
Lee:Yes.
Otis:Absolutely.
Clementine: It's okay I think the monsters got her.
Lee: So you been alone through all this?
Clementine:Yes I want my parents to come home now.
Otis:That may take a little while.
Clementine:Oh.
Lee:We don't know what happened but we'll look after you till then.
Clementine: What do we do now?
Otis: We should get help before it becomes dark.
Lee: I agree.
Clementine: Yeah it's not safe at night.
Lee: Stay close to us.
They walk out of the house and walk towards the gate.
Lee looks back.
Lee: What's wrong?
Clementine: Should I stay?
Otis: What?
Clementine:What if they come back and they can't find me?
Lee:Don't worry they will.
Otis:They can track us down through the walkie-talkie.
Clementine:Good idea but let's stay close okay.
Lee:Good idea.
They push the gate open.
Lee:Hey man!
???:Aw man!
???:Don't eat us!
Otis:Calm down we're not those things.
???:Oh sorry well my name is shawn greene.
???: And my name is chet.
Lee: My name is lee.
Otis: And my name is otis.
Lee:And this is clementine.
Shawn:We'll take you, you're son, and you're daughter to my family farm.
Lee: I'm not their dad I'm.
Lee:Some guy.
Shawn:Some guy, so they're all alone? The dead come out of nowhere.
Shawn:Help me push this.
Everyone's pushing besides chet.
They get the car out of the way and hop in the truck.
Shawn:For some guy you're an awesome one.
They drive for hours and finally arrive at the farm.
Everyone gets out of the truck.
Chet: Shawn I'm going to run home my mom is going to be angry.
Shawn:No sweat see you tomorrow night.
Chet:It was nice meeting y'all three.
Chet walks home.
The house door opens.
???: Ah shawn their you are.
Shawn:I was worried it was bad out here too.
???:Hasn't been bad here yet.
???:Looks like you brought a couple of guests.
Shawn:This is lee, otis, and clementine.
???: My name's hershal.
Hershal:Clementine and otis do you know this man?
Clementine: Yes.
Otis:I known him my entire life.
Hershal:Okay then.
Hershal: Looks you hurt your leg pretty hard.
Lee: Yeah it's not doing so hot.
Otis:You can say that again.
Shawn goes in the house.
Hershal:Let's take a good look at it.
Lee sits down on the porch.
Hershal:Yeah, your leg is swollen to hell.
Lee:Could have been worse.
Hershal:That's what it sounds like.
Hershal:So how did you hurt your leg?
Lee: We hit one of those things you heard about on the road.
Hershal: Who were you with the girl and boy?
Lee: A police officer.
Lee: He was giving me a ride.
Hershal:Awful nice of him.
Lee:I am an awful nice guy.
Hershal: House is full up with mine. Hershal:We've got another displaced family of three sleeping in the barn. Hershal:You,your daughter,and your
son are welcome to rest there when we're done here.
Hershal turns to Clementine and Otis.
Hershal:Can't imagine what you've been through, clementine and otis.
Lee:I'm looking after her and him until we find her parents.
Shawn exits the house.
Shawn:Dad, I think we should put more defenses up.
Hershal:Good idea, shawn.
Shawn goes back inside.
Hershal:Well, I'm all done here.
Hershal:It should start to feel better tomorrow.
Lee:Thanks.
Hershal gets up.
Hershal:If your leg gets hot or the swelling doesn't go down, you're probably dealing with an infection.
Lee:What do we do then?
Hershal:We'll probably just have to shoot you.
Lee looks surprised.
Hershal:We'll clean it, re-dress it, and you'll be fine.
Lee:Okay, that'd be preferable.
Hershal:There's blankets and such in the barn.
Hershal:We'll be seeing you bright and early.
Hershal:Come tomorrow, which way do you think you're headed?
Lee:Towards Macon, I suppose.
Hershal nods.
He turns to Clementine and Otis and smiles at her and him before going back inside.
Lee:Alright then.
Lee,Clementine, and Otis lie down on makeshift beds in the hay-covered barn. The family of three is already asleep on the upper floor of the barn.
Clementine:It smells like.
Lee:Manure.
Otis:Shit.
Clementine:That was a swear.
Lee: He knows clem.
Clementine:I miss my mom and dad.
Lee:I bet, Clem.
Otis:They probably miss you too.
Clementine: How far is Savannah?
Lee:Pretty far.
Clementine:Oh.
Clementine:Okay.
Clementine,Lee, and Otis fall asleep. Lee begins dreaming.
