star gazing
"Actually, he texted me today too," Izzy commented, looking at her arm. They have both already washed it off so there was nothing to see except for the little star on her wrist. "My soulmate."
"He's talking? Like actually writing words?" Tessa questioned. "Maybe it's actually not a middle schooler"
"You thought my soulmate was a middle schooler?" Izzy asked her in disbelief, genuinely surprised how dumb her friends could be sometimes.
"In my defence, Robin thought so too," Tessa said, only making the two girls shake their heads. "What have you talked about though?"
"Just...how our day went," Izzy shrugged. "I know it doesn't seem like much to you two, but it's something."
"Oh no, we know it's something," Alaska spoke up.
Izzy smiled at her. "Maybe we can actually start texting now," she mumbled, rubbing her left wrist.
And they did. They texted all the time since that day. When Izzy was working, when she was with her friends, when he had practice and couldn't focus on anything unless he answered her first, and when they were supposed to be sleeping.
During the night was when they texted the most. Hyunjin always made sure she still had enough sleep and didn't make her stay up too late, but it was still the time when they had the most to say.
Today wasn't any different. Izzy was laying in her bed with a pen in her hand, drawing small stars next to the one he did again, while waiting for his answer.
'Come outside' He wrote, making Izzy's eyes widen.
'You aren't a creep who found my address and is now standing in front of my house, are you?' She wrote right away, looking out of her window.
'No, I don't know where you live lol' Hyunjin answered with a small laugh. He wasn't lying to her, he didn't know where she lived, but obviously he knew a lot more than she thought. 'Just go outside'
'I am going' She answered, putting a hoodie over her pyjamas. Nights weren't that cold lately, but she still didn't feel like walking out just in her pyjamas.
Izzy quietly walked out of the apartment so she wouldn't wake up Amy or Hana, her arms crossed on her chest. She looked around, her gaze slowly softening as she looked up at the sky full of stars.
'Are you out yet?'
'I am' Izzy answered with a smile, making Hyunjin smile too.
He looked up again, peacefully watching the stars from their garden while thinking about the girl. 'So am I' he wrote.
'The sky is beautiful'
'That's why I took you out,' Hyunjin answered, wishing he could be next to her. 'These stars know so much about you'
'What?' Izzy wrote on the empty space on her arm, surprised.
'Yeah...' Hyunjin started, sighing. 'I didn't mention it sooner, but I waited for you for years. I told the stars about you, kind of wishing they might find you for me. That's why you have a star on your wrist every day.'
He noticed Izzy started writing something, but he wanted to finish first. 'And when I finally decided to accept the fact I don't have a soulmate, and wanted to flirt with the girl I like, you wrote to me as if it was nothing. As if I wasn't waiting four years for it.'
Everything Izzy wanted to write until now disappeared from her mind. Even though at first she wanted to tell him how cute he was, and how much she wanted to hug him right now, she didn't. Because the only thing that she could think about was the girl he liked. Her soulmate liked someone.
'A girl you like? Are you seeing someone?' She asked carefully, scared of his answer.
It wasn't like they would be dating or anything, she didn't even know who he was! But it still felt wrong. She felt like throwing up knowing her soulmate might be dating someone who isn't her.
'Not really' Hyunjin wrote, rethinking his sentence again. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything. 'She doesn't like me back. She doesn't even know I like her, she denies it even being possible'
And her gaze was soft again. Her thoughts were changing too fast for her to do anything about them. First she is thinking about how cute her soulmate is, then she is worried he might have a girl, and now...now her mind was all over the place, thinking about Hyunjin.
What if he felt the same way as her soulmate? What if he actually liked her and when she came to him, denying it because Minho told her so, it might have hurt him?
Then it clicked.
All the pieces were suddenly coming together and she realised it might be the same boy.
What if she was actually the girl he liked? What if the boy was her soulmate?
'I am... I am sorry'
'No need to' Hyunjin shook his head as he was looking at his arm. There was barely any empty space left again. 'I am going to wash my texts, you wait outside and we can watch the stars some more together'
Hyunjin smiled as he walked back to the house, his mind full of her once again. He was kind of hoping to get an answer from her, at least some okay, but nothing came. She was too busy texting her best friends to notice he even wrote something.
