Ding! My phone goes off.
By instinct, my hand reaches out-
Like one would to catch themselves from falling-
Hurriedly looking for the name.

Scurrying eyes never met their intended.
Fingers become flaccid with
                                                    disappointment-
Quicker reflects could never stop
                                my descent
                                 into this
                                rabbit hole
                                 of manic
                               obsession.

I'm Alice,
entranced by the mystery
that shrouds your being.
Spiked with curiosity,
a raging flame
too stubborn to be put out.

Unbeknown to me,
lies a danger within all your secrets-
Danger that entices me,
consuming me as
fire
(it's heat lapping up the confines of my heart)-

Tick
With open arms, I embraced you.
          Tock
With a smile, I was warm at thought of you.
                     Tick
With your slight reluctance, I shrugged it off.
                              Tock
With your absence, I was fixated on being high off you.
The clock ticked its' last tock.

Before it stood blatantly in my face,
I was the epitome of
                                        blind obsession.
Perhaps I might've sensed
your hold on me,
                                  distantly in the dark
                                  crevices of my mind.

Too busy chasing after the answers
to your secrets
                              in the shadows,
                              to know for sure.

Too focused on running half mad
deep into unknown woods,
                                                     hoping to
                                                     discover some
                                                     kind of
                                                     breakthrough
                                                     to knowing you.

Suddenly I was pulled back from the forest.
Back to my phone
by my side,
unnervingly silent.
as it always was, it seemed.

Although I had imagined myself
grinning like some cat,
once I had found some kind of hidden treasure-
in its' place was an 'x'
and a dead end.
