This darkness is no stranger of mine:
yet it's chilling presence
startled me.
"Hello?" I called out to the shadows—
not expecting it's reply:
"Hello darling,
we meet again."My heart clenched
and churned
at the sound
of their
velvet voice"I had hoped
we wouldn't meet again."Voice barely concealing
my shame,
my frustration.
Hands kept into a fist so tight,
nails bit into my palms—
punctured as if
stabbed
by countless daggers."I hoped
for the same."
For a moment
I heard their smile
waver a bit
Their voice
dull with
sorrow
Yet
My ears couldn't deceive
the slight undertone
of devilish delight;
My eyes couldn't disguise
that small uplift
of their malevolent smirk."How long are you thinking of staying?"
a question I already knew the answer for.
"For as long
as you want me to."
in that come-hither tone and all-knowing smile, as if I had any choice in the matter."Though I think
I might stick around
a little longer
just for you,
my love."
Distantly,
dark tentacle-like arms
hovered over my being,
reminiscent to the days
where they
mangled my being
till air seemed too long
a distance to grasp;
till I could've sworn
I'd already counted
the final tear
that fell from my eyes,
the last beating
of my heart—
(death leaving a pungent taste on my tongue)Puffing out my chest
and staring unrelenting
into
their
blackening
soulless
eyes—
hoping they see
the undying
flame of determination,
as it pumps through my veins—I breathed out a reply
conjuring most of my confidence.
"We'll see."
