Chapter 9: Breaching the Palace

Jesse's POV

Before long, most of the guards were on our side. And those guards fought the few ones who weren't for us. Eventually, we got to Emperor Steam. We went through a door, to an insanely massive office, to see Emperor Steam, who was sitting at an oversized wooden desk with a smug expression on his face. "I know those weakling, traitorous guards wouldn't be any good when it came down to it." He calmly said. I saw he was wearing a full set of enchanted armor and holding potion bottles. "But they will be now!" I noticed he was holding potion bottles, which he promptly threw at the guards who were starting to gang up on him. As soon as it hit them, they started ganging up on us. "You see, these potions are my latest and greatest creation. They cause intense feelings of loyalty to the one who throws it." He smugly explained as he took aim at our group. Most of us dodged it, but I noticed a few Crown Mesa residents and a few former competitors from the games got hit, and promptly turned against us. "So fascinating! That is truly a state-of-the-art potion recipe there! Such expertise that must have gone into the potion!" Ivor exclaimed with giddy, I rolled by eyes, but then his face fell. "But it is being used against us, which is bad... VERY BAD!" Ivor yelled. "As you can see, I am practically invincible, so you might as well give up now. Or I'll send you all to a fiery portal world, or perhaps a bitter cold one would be better? OR, maybe if I keep splashing you with this potion, you can be my personal servants for all eternity!" Emperor Steam laughed. "No way I'm letting that happen!" I shouted as I charged towards Emperor Steam, just to be bounced back by a Crown Mesa resident. I panted as I examined my surroundings. "Guys. We still outnumber them. Just don't get hit by any of the potions and we can do this." I said. "Let's go!" I said as we all ran towards Emperor Steam and his potion-controlled goons. The others were taking care of the goons, while I fought with Emperor Steam, preventing him from throwing more potions. I struggled as I fought with Steam, he's actually a pretty good sword fighter, but I know that I can be better. The battle continued for about 30 minutes, but then Emperor Steam suddenly backed up. "Fools! You will regret this! My reinforcements have arrived!" He proclaimed as the door to his office was busted down. "Halt invaders!" A man with full enchanted armor and an enchanted netherite sword said, followed by about 90 others. This isn't good. "Emperor Steam! We will take care of this swiftly and have them all charged with treason!" He said as he started overpowering our group! A good number of our team were being taken away, but then he noticed Nelina. "Nelina! You're here... So then this isn't a test!" He said quietly. "Stand down! This is no test. These are real rebels!" He declared as the other guards quickly let the rebels go. "It is you who is under arrest for treason, Dandy!" The guard shouted as he pointed at Emperor Steam. The other guards soon apprehended Emperor Steam and hauled him away. Soon, just my group and the leader guard were left in Emperor Steam's office. "I apologize about before. My name is Vaughn, and we thought you were just people the emperor sent to test our loyalty, that is until we saw Nelina." The guard sincerely said. "It's fine. Without your help we might not have defeated Emperor Steam. Thank you for helping us." I said. "It's really no problem, as long as that crazy warmonger loses control of ours cities." He said. "Also, did you call Emperor Steam Dandy back there?" I asked. He chuckled slightly. "Ah yes. Dandy is actually his real name! Only the highest-ranking officials such as myself can know that, as it is 'classified information.'" Wow. I was not expecting that. To think a guy who acted so tough was named Dandy! I thought for sure his name would have been something more menacing. I guess that's why he kept his true identity a secret. "Anyways," Vaughn continued, "Nobody liked that guy, even the highest-ranking officials, because he has conquered and destroyed everybody's towns. He treats everyone, and I mean everyone poorly. They just have been working for him to survive. I'm glad that's over... I see Nelina is with you, does Lindy also happen to be here?" Vaughn asked. "No, Nelina, Lindy and the rest actually were thrown into our world through portals, so they are back at our world. However, they will be able to come back here shortly." I explained "Good. I assume Mayor Lindy will be quickly re-elected, and the city will prosper once more." Vaughn said.
