The day of the big soccer game had finally arrived, and as I entered the changing rooms, I noticed the usual pre-game excitement and nervous energy among my teammates. However, something caught my attention - Shauna Shipman, a fellow soccer player, and my best friend, seemed a bit more flustered than usual.
I started to tie my laces but then I heard familiar voices nearby - Shauna and Jackie. They seemed to be talking animatedly, and my curiosity got the better of me as I overheard my name, Jackie seemed to be pushing at Shauna's buttons trying to get her to confess something.
"Well, you know our teammate y/n, right?" Shauna began, and my ears perked up. My heart rate increased as I leaned in to listen. It sounded like my crush, Shauna fucking Shipman had a secret crush on me.
Out of shock i walked out of the room, not saying anything. I tried not to make a big deal out of it, but I couldn't help but feel a mix of surprise and delight.
As we walked out onto the field, I couldn't shake the thought of Shauna's confession. During the game, I caught her stealing glances at me, her eyes filled with a mixture of admiration and nervousness. It was both flattering and endearing, and it brought a new level of intensity to the match.
After the game, the team went back to the locker rooms to change, and I noticed Shauna lingering behind, seemingly deep in thought. I decided to approach her, and as I walked over, she looked up, her cheeks slightly flushed.
"Hey, Shauna. Great game out there," I said, trying to ease the tension that I could sense in the air.
She smiled nervously and replied, "Thanks, you too. You were amazing, as always."
There was a brief moment of silence as we stood facing each other, both knowing that there was something more to be said. Finally, I mustered the courage to bring up what I had overheard earlier.
"Shauna, I hope you don't mind, but I couldn't help but overhear what you and Jackie were talking about earlier.
She looked taken aback for a moment. "You heard that, huh? I guess my secret is out then."
I smiled gently and took a step closer, "Well, it's not every day someone admits having a crush on me. I'm actually really flattered, Shauna."
Her cheeks flushed deeper, but a hint of confidence emerged in her expression. "I've liked you for a while, but I didn't know how to say it. You're just so... amazing, and I didn't want to mess up our friendship."
I reached out and gently touched her arm, "You could never mess up our friendship. And honestly, I've liked you too, Shauna. I just never thought you'd feel the same way."
Her eyes widened in surprise, "Wait, really?"
I nodded, "Really. You're smart, talented, and incredibly kind. How could I not like you?"
A smile spread across the brunettes face, and for a moment, it felt like the world around us faded away. Without any hesitation, she leaned in, and our lips met in a soft and tender kiss. It was a moment of vulnerability and honesty, and it felt like the start of something beautiful.
As we pulled away, we both grinned, a newfound understanding between us. "I can't believe we waited this long to tell each other," Shauna said with a playful glint in her eyes.
"Better late than never," I replied, feeling a rush of happiness.
