Anxiety gnawed at me as I sat fidgeting in the passenger seat of Shauna's car, the rhythmic tapping of my fingers revealing the turmoil of thoughts within. "What if she doesn't like me?" I voiced my fear, my voice trembling with uncertainty.

Shauna, my girlfriend, flashed a reassuring smile in my direction, her hand gently finding its way to my thigh. Her thumb traced soothing patterns as her eyes briefly left the road to meet mine. "She will," she purred with unwavering confidence. "I know she will," she continued, her gaze returning to the winding road ahead.

My anxiety remained steadfast, and I couldn't help but voice my nagging doubts. "But there's a chance she won't," I stammered, my lower lip quivering in apprehension.

A musical giggle escaped Shauna's lips, a sound that warmed my heart. "I promise you, she will love you," she affirmed, her smile unwavering. Then, with a playful glint in her eyes, she added, "But not as much as I do."

As Shauna pulled into the driveway and turned off the car's engine, she looked at me expectantly. "You ready?" she inquired. My response was hesitant, "I guess." Shauna leaned closer, planting a tender kiss on my cheek before we both stepped out of the car. We walked to the front door hand in hand, my nervousness causing beads of sweat to form on the back of my neck.

Shauna rang the doorbell, and the seconds that followed seemed interminable. Finally, the door creaked open, revealing a woman with warm, welcoming eyes and brown hair that mirrored Shauna's. Wow, Shauna and her mother look exactly alike. I mustered a smile, extending my hand for a handshake. "Hello, I—" But before I could finish, Shauna's mother enveloped me in a warm and tight hug.

"You're Y/N, right?" she exclaimed, her smile radiant with familiarity. "Shauna talks about you too much for me not to know you."

Shauna, crimson-faced, immediately covered her face with her hands, mortified. "Mum!" she protested. "Whoops, I don't think I was supposed to say that," Shauna's mother admitted with a chuckle, which I couldn't help but join in.

"Well, you must both come inside," Shauna's mother declared with raised eyebrows and a mischievous grin. "I have to do the average mother activity and start by showing you baby pictures of Shauna." A wide grin spread across my face, contrasting Shauna's increasingly embarrassed expression.

"I cannot believe this," Shauna mumbled, still red-faced. She turned to me, her voice a quiet admission. "I told you she'd like you," she said with a grin, still looking embarrassed as ever as we step inside the house.
