I'm sitting outside the cabin on the steps, flanked by my close friends, Mari and Van. A conversation between Jackie and Shauna catches my attention.
"If Jackie had a dick she'd definitely be the father of Shauna's kid," I casually remark. Both Mari and Van burst into laughter at my comment. "Maybe she is the father; you should ask her," Van suggests with a mischievous grin. I quickly dismiss the idea, saying, "No way am I asking that."
"Have we even figured out who the father of Shauna's baby is?" Mari wonders aloud. Van shakes her head, and I chime in, "Probably Jackie," raising an intrigued eyebrow.
Jackie and Shauna share a loving moment, holding hands and exchanging smiles. "Are they about to kiss right now?" Mari asks with a playful tone. Van adds her thoughts, "They probably already have. I mean, Jackie is definitely Shauna's baby daddy."
I interject, "Haven't all best friends kissed each other at some point?" It's a pondering thought that crosses my mind.
Van's response is a confused frown. "No?" she says, puzzled by my remark.
Both Mari and I turn our attention to Van, the disbelief evident on our faces. "No?" I echo, seeking clarification. Mari presses further, asking, "What do you mean, no?"
Van hesitates, glancing between us before her realization dawns, leading her to suddenly jump up from the step and shout at the top of her lungs. "TAI, YOU OWE ME TWENTY BUCKS!"
Startled by her outburst, everyone's attention is drawn to her, and Tai rushes out of the cabin. She looks down at Mari and me, clearly confused.
"You're kidding," Tai says, a touch of sadness in her expression. "I don't have twenty bucks, considering we're out here in the wilderness," she continues, her gaze fixed on us.
My curiosity peaks, and I question, "Hold on, why does Tai owe you twenty bucks?" There's a hint of confusion in my tone.
"Because you guys have kissed before," Van states.
