They went immediately to Bruce's lab and got him to do another ultrasound.
They bounced in their seats while he looked at the screen. "Looks like...a girl!"
Steve put an arm around her shoulders and rubbed up and down her arm while she snuggled into his side, both smiling.
The trio sat in silent for a few seconds before Priz spoke, "...what now? I'm gonna have a baby in less than a month...we don't have anything for a baby. And there's a good chance they'll continue to grow crazy fast so what if my kid is an adult in 3 months?" Her eyes got huge as panic rose- hand giving off a white glow with pastel colors shimmering in the rim of it like the northern lights.
The couple sat on the edge of the bed, keeping her tucked under his wing.
"Even at your enhanced rate, that's unlikely given the curve. You've got years of childhood to experience, I'm sure." Bruce tried. He agreed it was guaranteed the baby would be a toddler in less than a year but she was thinking worst case.
"We'll get baby stuff, Priz. Even if she out grows it as fast as we can buy it." Steve tugged her to lay her cheek on his collar bone, making her relax a tiny bit but her eyes were still full of fear he couldn't see but the doctor could.
"What if she has my powers? How do you control magical toddler tantrums? She could do an insane amount of damage with unchecked powers." Her panic seeped into her tone. "I don't remember anything before I was physically fourteen when I accidently punched a fricken hole through the multiverse and wound up here." She began to hyperventilate.
"Whoa, whoa.." Steve hadn't considered this bit as good at keeping his illusion of calm, trying to let his Captain America persona come to his aid.
Nonetheless, his baby blues flashed to Bruce for help.
"Your powers are limitless, right? You don't fail as long as you stay confident and relaxed, right?"
Steve gave a look over her head that said he better be going somewhere with this. She was actively struggling, hands glowing as her anxiety rose. Her wedding ring glowed too, making Bruce's eyes snap to Steve's.
"Not exactly feeling those things right now." She shifted her eyes to her hands and gulped, clenching her fists to make the bright low dim a bit.
"What if you put a spell or something on Steve's ring? Make something that can help him control her, even when you aren't there to counter."
Steve couldn't exactly kick his child through a wall if she magically threw a couch at him. His brows rose as he looked down at the gold and silver band on his finger, showing it to his...girlfriend? Daughters mother...? Just...co-parent?
He was far from invincible against Prism's magic. That's why even before-when they hated each other- she always held an unspoken rule of never using her powers against him; even if he was going to use her to dent the training room wall like he was about to that time Thor stepped in.
Or the few times Thor or someone else had to step in.
She only used her powers in a fair fight, usually real ones. Fear of accidently killing her friends kept her in check.
A toddler wouldn't even consider this, much less know what she was truly capable of.
Emotional maturity must have been a hard lesson to learn alone- with the risks Prism's magic held he was sure she'd slipped up before and things probably went very badly. That would explain why she was always so positive and sometimes just...muted- like she was purposely reining herself in.
But she had him now. He wanted to help her, and their daughter however he could.
Which brought him back to wondering what exactly they were now? He knew in an instant he'd be whatever she wanted him to be, so decided to just be present until she told him what she wanted from him.
It seemed -sooner rather than later- Nora would be "old" enough to wonder why her parents didn't share a living space or kiss. They held hands, cuddled some and gave occasional non-lip kisses sure but...
"Earth to Steve!"
He looked down to see the woman herself looking up at him, glowing hands at a minimum though still present. "He's got a good point. I can't give you my powers but before she learns we can't risk her hurting you or anyone else. You can't protect yourself like I can."
Cap found himself muttering something about his shield but she shook her head. "I've always thought I could break that if I wanted."
"So you probably could." Bruce spoke up, getting a nod from her.
Steve tilted his head side to side for a moment, like he was weighing the possibility.
He didn't like his answer.
In all honesty, he was realizing just how much Priz had been holding back all those years. Whenever they argued, sparred or even actually fought, she only ever used force fields against him -with his permission unless it was a real fight.
Weather it be protecting herself or throwing them like projectiles - sometimes shaping them like knives or spears- she never really tried to actually hurt him like he had her. She held back- letting herself get pummeled on multiple occasions.
Guilt gnawed at his heart, making him squeeze her to him a little too tightly so that her face scrunched. A touch on his arm from Bruce brought him back to reality, prompting him to loosen his hold and apologize.
The men held each others gaze for a few seconds before Steve looked back down at Prism who seemed to have calmed down at the sign of his...issue.
Her hand now softly rubbed his back, tracing random patterns across it.
Bruce noticed this change and got an idea, but it would have to wait.
"Y-yeah, you can charm my ring right?" the blonde asked, holding out the hand that bore it.
"I can. I just need to work out exactly what I want it to do and it'll work."
"It can wait. We've got a few weeks for you to think about it. We've got this, Bon. We're gonna figure this out and we're gonna be great parents." He pressed a kiss to her temple, not seeing her hand other hand clench as he did so-but Bruce saw.
She nodded, leaning up to kiss his jaw. The door to the lab opened for Tony, making them all look over.
"That's a good sign. What's the word?" he asked, having seen the kiss.
"It's a girl! Eleanor Elizabeth Rogers." Steve told him.
"Nora for short." The silver haired woman added this time, smiling up at Cap.
"Congrats. We'll have to have a little Avengers only baby shower." Tony nodded, "But first..." he held up a camera and gestured to her protruding belly.
She nodded, saying something about getting ready but Bruce spoke up, "Maybe tomorrow- Tony. Priz needs a rest after all this excitement- doctors orders!" he smiled to keep the situation calm.
A questioning look passed in Tony's gaze but he nodded. "Of course. I'll start planning the party...or have Clint and Laura do it...they'd like that." He muttered the second part, nodding as he left the room.
"I'm gonna go see if I can help, okay Bon?" Steve looked down at her.
"Sure!" she nodded, wearing a slightly fake smile that he completely bought before smiling back and leaving the room.
Since befell the lab as Bruce and Prism looked at each other- the jovial mood left with Steve.
"I have a friend I'd like you to meet. He might be able to help you safely blow off some steam." Bruce said at last, seeing a look of shock then confusion cross her perfect face.
"He's a Doctor too. I never thought about it but you haven't worked with him on missions before so you don't know him."
She inclined her head to show interest.
"His name is Stephen Strange."
