I didn't sleep properly.
Not because I couldn't.
Because I kept thinking.
About Logan.
About Mabel.
About the Dashwoods.
About Odessa.
And about the version of me that seemed to exist differently in each of their eyes.
By the time 2 AM arrived, I was already sitting on the edge of my window.
Waiting.
I didn't even ask myself why I was waiting.
A soft knock came against the glass.
Once.
Then again.
I opened it.
Logan climbed in quietly, like he had done it a hundred times before, brushing his sleeves off once he landed inside.
"You're actually here," I said.
"You invited me," he replied simply.
That made me pause.
"...Yeah," I admitted.
He looked around the room for a second, then back at me.
Neither of us spoke immediately.
It wasn't awkward.
It was just... full.
Like too many things had been left unsaid for too long.
Finally, I broke it.
"I'm not leaving them," I said.
Logan didn't react right away.
I continued anyway.
"I'm not leaving Odessa. I'm not leaving Night Fox. And I'm not disappearing into them either."
A beat.
Then I added more quietly,
"I don't know how to belong to one place."
Logan stepped closer.
"You don't have to pick one," he said.
I frowned slightly. "That sounds easy when you say it."
"It isn't," he replied. "But it's true."
Silence again.
This time, softer.
I looked down at my hands.
"I thought going back would feel like fitting into something I lost," I said. "But it just feels like I'm in the middle of two things pulling me apart."
Logan leaned against the wall near the window.
"Then stop letting them pull," he said.
I glanced at him.
He wasn't smiling now.
Not teasing.
Not joking.
Just... him.
"You're not something people get to own, CC," he added. "Not them. Not me. Not anyone."
That hit differently than everything else tonight.
I didn't answer immediately.
Instead, I stood up slowly.
"...You're annoying," I said finally.
